Bleeding piles - what do you use on yours?

8008Bee · 12/08/2024 13:38

I have piles that are internal and external courtesy of my pregnancies over 20 years ago. I eat a good diet that is fibre rich to make sure I don't get constipated but starting HRT at the end of last year seems to be causing me to slow down in that area.

My piles have started bleeding - this has happened before but I can't for the life of me remember what I did last time. It's quite nasty bleeding, the whole toilet bowl is red (but I know even a small amount of blood can do this). I seem to recall having a steroid/pain relief cream before - not sure if I can get that OTC or whether I need to ask the GP. The GP knows I have piles as I had a colonoscopy a few years ago to rule out any other causes for the bleeding so it's definitely the piles (colonoscopy was all clear and it feels like it's coming from that area!).

Germoloids Haemorrhoid Cream,
https://amzn.eu/d/aPe024p.

Mine started 20 years ago to (after childbirth) still have problems from time to time (not helped by ibs).

8008Bee · 12/08/2024 13:44

thanks, I have ordered some! May the piles be gone from both of us!

I used to use anusol years ago but the last couple of times I’ve just used sudocreme and it really has helped

Mabelface · 12/08/2024 14:54

I take an antihistamine to stop itching, and superdrug's own brand gel seems to be great. Might be worth getting something a bit stronger than over the counter though.

Have just been on a 5 day course of oral steroids for a chest infection and they seem to have sorted mine out! Alongside insomnia and increased appetite and restlessness, mind 😉

Sparkletastic · 12/08/2024 16:01

3 in 1 suppositories for internal and cream for the external.

8008Bee · 12/08/2024 16:08

Thanks all - I shall try all these solutions. Just ordered some suppositories too.

I have the same, from 18 years ago.
Don't flare up too much but I use Anusol. The bright red toilet bowl is quite a picture 😬

MassiveOvaryaction · 12/08/2024 19:14

I use Anusol suppositories for the internal ones.

8008Bee · 12/08/2024 19:43

I'm glad I'm not alone though I wouldn't wish this on anyone!

Proctosedyl ointment on prescription from my GP. Contains hydrocortisone for the itching. Very effective.

8008Bee · 17/08/2024 19:28

Just wanted to thank you all

I got the suppositories and the cream and have been using both all week and it's so much improved

No more bleeding (and it was every day for a while) and the pain and irritation has almost completely gone away!

Which did you go for OP? Glad things have improved.

ZZGirl · 20/08/2024 19:12

Have you considered surgery? I had it recently with no regrets. You've suffered for such a long time.

8008Bee · 20/08/2024 20:32

I got the germaloids suppositories and cream

If that hadn't worked I would have asked the GP for the procto cream but it seems to have done the trick for now

When I had the colonoscopy, in 2018 I think it was, because of the excessive bleeding they did inject the internal ones and it took about 5 years before that injection wore off

The doctor who did the colonoscopy did say I could come back and get another injection but I don't know how long it would take to be re referred - might be worth finding out how much it would cost me to have it done again as it definitely worked for a while

@ZZGirl did you have external and internal ones. Mine are quite bad 😱

I'm glad you surgery went well - did they just cut them off? I'm not sure how it works!

I had both and the surgery has been so worth it. I had internal banding and external removal. Please consider it, feel free to message me. You really don't have to put up with it.

Mabelface · 21/08/2024 07:31

I've recently had a 5 day course of oral steroids for a chest infection. Whilst they're horrible things, they did give me the bonus of sorting my piles out! The itching and inflammation has completely gone.

Poppetini · 11/09/2024 20:34

Hi - hope you don't mind my asking, but which surgery did you have? I've just been told I need surgery (not banding) and I'm so scared. I can have regular haemmorectomy or the HALO version. The HALO version is supposed to be less painful, but then I've found a patients board where they said they were still in pain for weeks, so I don't know what to do, and I'm honestly terrified.

Poppetini · 11/09/2024 20:35

@ZZGirl (sorry first post and fluffed it)

I've been fully healed since mid August.
I had internal banding and external removal of anal tags/older haemorrhoids and honestly it's been so worth it to know after 10 years I have a normal area!

Poppetini · 11/09/2024 23:04

thank you for replying. I wish someone had mentioned it to me when banding was still an option. I hope I have as positive an experience as you. @ZZGirl

Hi, I know this post is a bit old but wanted to ask ZZGirl about the removal of external tags. I am on the waiting list for this. General anaesthetic, and quick removal but left as an open wound. Very concerned about recovery. How did you get on, especially with the dreaded first BM after the op?

Honestly, I was dreading it but it was fine. Just listen to your body, don't strain, put your feet on a stool so your legs are elevated. It was nothing like I expected. Dab, don't wipe u till you're healed.

Summerx · 16/10/2024 19:58

@ZZGirl how long did it take you to recover fully? I'm left with skin tags after pregnancy piles and have been told they'd need to be removed surgically but it's not funded on the NHS so will have to pay to go private. I'm currently trying to weigh up the pros and cons but seeing a lot of negative experiences which is a bit 😬
