Contact lens advice

I want to try contact lenses. I have been told by several people, friends and some colleagues who said I look better without glasses as I have "nice eyes" that you can't see when wearing glasses. I have petite features so glasses are hard to find. I have never tried contact lenses and need advice. Can you get infections and are weekly or monthly better. I need them for distance. My friend said dailies rip easily but I don't want to go with monthly as you can get infections if not cleaned properly. I also tend to get watery eyes in the wind. Please does anyone have any recommendations or advice regarding contact lenses

Can you wear mascara with contacts? When u go for first appointment with optician would you skip mascara? I am sorry if my question sounds daft but don't have a clue about contacts

You can, but I would put it on after my lenses are in.

I wouldn't wear it to the opticians — if it's your first go you'll probably end up with your eyes watering a bit.

Yes lenses in first and then mascara, lenses out before make-up removal in the evening. I try and remember not to wear eye make up when I'm going to the optician as it can be a bit messy when you take the lenses out.

Thanks, I know what it's like if I do my make up and get a hair in eye etc.. eyes streaming. Mascara runs all over. I won't wear make up but might tint my eyelashes as I have fair lashes.

Yes, that is one benefit of wearing contacts longer term, I can get an eyelash or hair in my eye and feel it but can leave it till later to deal with and then get it out no bother, no tears.

@BashfulClam thanks I'll give that a go.

I went this morning. Optician checked my eyes and put some dye and he said I don't have dry eyes. He put the contacts in first time. It took me ages to take them out, putting them in took even longer. I was asked to stand up to put them in so had to ask to sit down as it was too awkward standing up. I got there eventually, the contacts are surprisingly much better than my glasses and I can see better. A lot clearer but don't know why.. but pleased I can see much better with contacts than glasses.

Ive worn contact lenses for 24 years, i used to wear monthlys which i found uncomfortable most of the time, i have dry eyes so they weren't really suitable, in that time i had one ulcer on my cornea which was caused by me getting drunk and not taking my lenses out 2 nights in a row! I now wear daily lenses and they are amazing!

I am not looking forwards to taking them out, took a while at the opticians. I was asked to stand to put them in and take them out so asked to sit down and it was much easier..
