Hi

I ate a pink burger - roughly how long Do I have left?

it was pink in the middle and I stopped eating it when I realised but the burger was massive so didn’t realise until pretty late. At a family bbq so didn’t want to be rude and pretended I was full up.

what happens now lol

Aren't loads of burgers served pink? And steaks and tartar?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/08/2024 17:10

You might be ok, fingers crossed 🤞

WhiteBedding · 03/08/2024 17:10

Well, beef burger nothing will happen at all. Nice quality ones are best served rare 🤷🏼‍♀️ Chicken burger, you might be poorly.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/08/2024 17:10

In America you get to choose how pink you'd like your burger, like you'd order a steak here.

You'll be fine. :)

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 03/08/2024 17:10

Presuming it was beef, you should be fine? I’d be more worried about undercooked sausages or chicken than a beef burger.

HappiestSleeping · 03/08/2024 17:11

What would happen for me is that I'd go and get another one.

Hadalifeonce · 03/08/2024 17:11

If I make burgers, I always cook them pink, that's the way we like them.

Movinghouseatlast · 03/08/2024 17:11

A beef burger? You can order beef burgers rare just like steak. You can eat raw beef in a steak tartare.

Unless the meat was off you will be fine I would think.

Beef mince is different from a rare steak.

Was it frozen OP?

sunsetsandboardwalks · 03/08/2024 17:12

Assuming it was a beef burger, you'll be fine.

saveforthat · 03/08/2024 17:12

If it's good quality mince, it's fine, they are best eaten rare.

Whyyougottobeanonymous · 03/08/2024 17:19

Yes from butchers frozen and then cooked on bbq

I imagine you'll be fine. I've eaten some delicious burgers that were pink in the middle.

You have a much higher risk of being poorly with frozen meat that's not cooked but it's not a guarantee.

I really hope everyone eating pink burgers use a proper meat thermometer as cooking by eye is like playing russian roulette 🤢

samarrange · 03/08/2024 17:24

You do know about steak tartare, right?

Tartare is prepared correctly and isn't frozen .

LoneHydrangea · 03/08/2024 17:32

Do you never eat rare beef?

I think you’ll live.

ElleneAsanto · 03/08/2024 17:32

I’ve survived steak tartare - properly seasoned it’s delicious.

The general idea with beef - if it’s an intact piece (eg a steak) any bacteria on the outside are killed, even if it’s very rare inside. (Mooing, blue, call the vet.)

If the meat is minced, bacteria could get moved into the middle, so if not all cooked through could make you ill. Assuming they survive the hydrochloric acid in your stomach.

Good quality minced beef, well kept, should be fine.

Steak is a higher quality of beef than mince but you should still be fine.

Blisterly · 03/08/2024 17:37

I cook all my burgers pink as a minimum. Usually I cook them rare. I’ve never been ill from a burger, neither have any of my family. I’ve never cooked a frozen burger though.

StellaLaBella · 03/08/2024 17:39

I know it was frozen so slightly more dicey, but as long as it wasn't actually cold when you bit in to it, you should be grand OP. My DC have been digging in to rare burgers since they 4 or 5. I prefer them slightly more well done myself but that's how they come here (US) and they're strapping uni students now lol

God I want a decent steak tartare now

OldTinHat · 03/08/2024 17:50

Beef? Can't you eat that raw as steak tatar and people eat very rare steaks?
If it was chicken, I'd camp out next to the toilet for a while.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 03/08/2024 17:55

As a young child my mum had to put a lock on our fridge as both my sister and I would sneak down at night to eat raw mince steak and raw sausages. We're both fine. You'll be fine.

Cantbebotheredwithausername · 03/08/2024 17:56

You'll be fine. :-) Don't worry.
