I think I have Dotty flu. I've got:

Ulcers all over my tongue so it's swollen and I can't talk.

The sorest throat in the flipping world so I can barely swallow

swollen glands all over my neck

Headache

I've been up since 5am 'cos of the pain. Taking brufen and paracetamol but it's not touching it.

WAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH...

Hmm, how odd. Maybe you've blown your nose too much?

If you're brave, you can gargle with something like TCP.

Hope the painkillers work. It all sounds pretty miserable to me. Hope you can have a day in bed tomorrow. Aren't you a Buffy fan? That's good when you don't feel well.

Dottydot · 15/04/2008 05:34

haven't blown it at all 'cos I'm not cold-y..! Seems to be going now though so I'll stop going on about it

Yes, I watched a couple of Angels last night in bed when i couldn't think of anything else to do, i felt so poorly. My Mum's just bought the complete box set so I'm starting at the beginning .

All my Buffys are in storage at the moment - but Angel will keep me going!

Well, I'm glad you have Angel to keep you company! I'm on the last series of Buffy and might try Angel again when I've finished. We tried watching it at the point it split from Buffy but it was too confusing. I don't think it is as good though.

Hope you get some sleep and feel better soon. I should go to bed really.

Dottydot · 15/04/2008 05:39

what time is it where you are? It's 5.30am here so I've kind of given up!

OP posts:
UnderRated · 15/04/2008 05:41

Getting on for midnight. I'm tired and bored but not sleepy.

Dottydot · 15/04/2008 05:43

definitely bedtime then! usually i'm asleep by 10.30pm - it's only when I'm ill that I turn into a complete insomniac. Mind you, I'll be in bed all day hopefully - dp's banned me from going into work until I'm better (bless..!).

I might try going back to bed. It's either that or make another coffee

OP posts:
belgo · 15/04/2008 13:05

are you any better Dotty?

Dottydot · 15/04/2008 14:34

not really. sigh. I'm rubbish at being ill. Have been up for a bit but am getting shivery again so am off to bed.

iamdingdong · 15/04/2008 14:44

dotty I had this sort of thing a couple of weeks ago, felt dreadful, pain in throat so bad I couldn't eat, drink or sleep - doc told me ABs wouldn't do anything and to see it through with paracetemol/brufen which I was pretty sceptical about as the pain seemed so bad, but after 3-4 days it did become more bearable and has cleared up now, hope yours does too

rey · 15/04/2008 14:45

sounds like you have every reason to feel sorry for yourself, I feel sorry for you - hope better very soon.

Dottydot · 15/04/2008 19:16

bumping this in a completely self pitying way, 'cos that fish is getting way too much MN sympathy for my liking..!

Cod - you've not been having nose bleeds have you?

I've booked an appt. with the GP for Friday - if it's no better by then I'm going to demand a blood test for GF - it's all the rage you know...

OP posts:
marina · 15/04/2008 19:25

Oh you poor thing dotty
I had this, like iamdingdong and n other Mners, and it cleared up in about four days. But they were a BAD four days.
Do hope you have not got GF too

marina · 15/04/2008 19:25

PS, my doctor alleged she could not see throat for swelling either, but advised me to gargle with warm soluble paracetamol. Vile - but it really worked!

Dottydot · 15/04/2008 19:27

I've already given up on the idea of going to work this week - which is pretty much unheard of for me. Dp is muttering darkly about getting stuff like this 'cos I'm travelling to London from Manchester once a week - but that's the only time I get a break - 2 hours of peace and quiet each way on the train - it's lovely...!

OP posts:
Dottydot · 15/04/2008 19:27

I know the gargling thing's supposed to help, but I can't do it - I get choking fear

OP posts:
SorenLorensen · 15/04/2008 19:28

Poor you, Dotty - go to bed, drink lots, take painkillers (write down when you have taken them as it's easy to lose track when you are feeling so rotten). I really do sympathise - we have had illness after illness after illness since Christmas. Roll on summer! Hope you feel better soon.

CeilingCat · 15/04/2008 19:29

Farking hell there is a plague on MN at the moment...a PLAGUE I tell you.

CeilingCat · 15/04/2008 19:29

(poor you Dotty )

marina · 15/04/2008 19:31

I don't know whether I was imagining this dotty, but does Bonjela or Vicks do an analgesic throat spray? I am not a keen gargler either.

Soren, how did the footy go?

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 15/04/2008 19:32

lol CeilingCat, it does feel a bit like that

Dottydot · 15/04/2008 19:32

Thanks Ceiling cat Dp is pretty much out of sympathy now - don't blame her - it's a right old pain when your other half is ill.

Marina - i've got a throat spray but it doesn't seem to be doing much good

OP posts:
SorenLorensen · 15/04/2008 19:39

Aw, Marina - thanks for asking. It was fine - there were over 3000 in the crowd and I couldn't have stood up in front of that many people, let alone played football but (tbh) only proud mums, dads, grandparents etc. were paying much attention.

My brother had come up from London for the weekend - and when he arrived for us all to go to the match he had brought ds1 the team tracksuit (he wanted to get him a kit but couldn't get one anywhere). Only it was a man's size 'small' and the trousers are too long for me! So, my Mum (she came too) was frantically tacking up the sleeves 5 minutes before we had to leave the house. Still - he got to go out in the team colours, even if the jacket did almost reach his knees

And it was my first live football match for years and it was really quite exciting. I shouted and waved my arms about a bit.

There are some pictures on Facebook if you want to have a look.

Sorry for hijack, Dotty

CeilingCat · 15/04/2008 19:42

Ah now you see if DH gets ill first I always make sure I'm extra sympathetic...rack up lots of brownie points making hot water bottles / honey and lemon etc, cos there's a fair chance I'll catch it off him and I can then demand repayment of fwuffiness with interest

WanderingTrolley · 15/04/2008 19:48

Oh dear, everyone is ill

If your mouth is very sore, would drinking through a straw help? I like a hot drink when my throat hurts [weirdy]

Hope you feel better soon.

Dottydot · 15/04/2008 19:49

Yes - I prefer hot drinks - the stinging counteracts the stinging! And eating cornflakes for the same reason
