Hello please advice.
I have been now discharged and I have nobody to call and ask.
From Time to time I get palpitations, last time I got I spoke to cardiologist in September 2023 on the phone appointment, I was given the Holter monitor for 48 hrs, this was done in the middle of April 2024 and today I received the results in the post ( no appointment was given)
This result made me very worried now as it seems to be contraindicated somehow.
The results was from in a letter and the cardiologist consultant:

Result:
The recording was quite artifacted throughout, it showed sinus rhythm with no pause, drop beats or brachycardia, very rare ventricular and supraventricular ectopics.
Max heart rate 136, min 54 and average 78.
There is nothing abnormal on this test, as patient already mentioned few months ago the palpitations improved I have discharged her to back to her GP.
But I read now that all these ectopic are very dangerous..so I’m confused.

Especially the Supraventriculars ectopics..

Violetandgreen · 15/07/2024 14:22

It says you have none of these things. That's why you are being discharged back to GP.

ApolloandDaphne · 15/07/2024 14:24

It's saying you don't have those things.

halava · 15/07/2024 14:28

I think you need to read it again. You have nothing wrong with your ticker, it says that. Relax now and enjoy life. The palpitations were probably the result of you being anxious or a worrier, so try to calm yourself as best you can.

Those of us with cardiac issues including myself, would LOVE a report like that!

Heartssun · 15/07/2024 14:30

@halava @Violetandgreen it say that I have very rare ventricular and supraventricular ectopics? That’s how I read it?

OP posts:
Pery · 15/07/2024 14:31

Ectopic beats are not dangerous. Everyone has them but some people have more than others and some people notice them more than others.
Supraventricular ectopic beats are in themselves not dangerous, SVT is generally treated if it continues for more than about an hour but if it self limits (stops on it's own) no treatment is needed.
I'm not a medic but I have SVT.

OrlandointheWilderness · 15/07/2024 14:32

It doesn't mean you have very rare ones, it means you have low incidences of them (its very rare it happens)

Haveyougotallnight · 15/07/2024 14:34

There is nothing abnormal on this test

It literally says that

OrlandointheWilderness · 15/07/2024 14:34

And they are fairly common. Not a cardiac nurse or doctor here but a student nurse.

UpUpUpU · 15/07/2024 14:36

it showed sinus rhythm with no pause, drop beats or brachycardia, very rare ventricular and supraventricular ectopics.

it says NO OP. You are fine.

Granted it is worded clumsily, but you are normal.

Heartssun · 15/07/2024 14:36

@pery I had some rare minor ectopic beats before on previous holters years ago but I never had been told about the supraventricular ectopics, this is for the first time ever. I googled it and it said AF and stroke hight risk , reading that almost gave me a heart attack!

OP posts:
Heartssun · 15/07/2024 14:38

@UpUpUpU but shouldn’t I be worried about the very rare Supraventriculars? That’s what made my heart rate almost through the roof just reading it!

OP posts:
Scottishgirl85 · 15/07/2024 14:38

It's badly phrased, but you are fine! Do you have health anxiety?

Jennywren8 · 15/07/2024 14:38

I had heart palpitations and got tested, conclusions was that menopause can bring them on but they are totally harmless (if annoying)

Heartssun · 15/07/2024 14:39

@Scottishgirl85 i would say a mild one healths anxiety's yes, not too big, just reading it made me worried.

OP posts:
Heartssun · 15/07/2024 14:40

@Jennywren8 yeas I’m 50 so in Peri …. Had lots of palpitations last year, these almost stopped, get the occasional now and then..

OP posts:
Pery · 15/07/2024 14:42

I suspect anxiety is the problem here not your heart. Palpitations and awareness of them is very common in anxiety. Occasional superventricular beats or ectopics will not harm you or give you a heart attack.

When I have had SVT my HR has been over 200bpm for a few hours until they sorted it. You would absolutely know about it.
You have been fully checked out by a cardiologist who has found nothing wrong. Maybe see your GP to discuss your fears?

spikeandbuffy · 15/07/2024 14:42

Rewritten so it makes more sense to you! It should say sinus rhythm with none of the below issues

The recording was quite artifacted throughout, it showed sinus rhythm with no pause, no drop beats or brachycardia, and no very rare ventricular and supraventricular ectopics. Therefore these is nothing abnormal on this test

OrlandointheWilderness · 15/07/2024 14:43

Heart palpitations are again pretty common and most of the time not an issue.
Your cardiology consultant is an incredibly highly qualified individual - certainly more than the vast majority of us on MN - and he would NOT have discharged you back to GP care if there was anything wrong. Google does not know your case, your history and your results, and more to the point it is incapable of interpreting any of it. That letter is telling you you are fine, there is nothing to worry about.

Heartssun · 15/07/2024 14:51

@spikeandbuffy thank you for rewriting it, I didn’t realise there is NO missing before the very rare ectopics.
Im not worried about the ventricular ectopic as I know these can be normal however it was the Supraventriculars who made me worried.
Obviously reading the last paragraph about discharging me, was reassuring but it was the part with Very Rare supraventricular ectopics I couldn’t understand as seeemed contradiction p, either they found something or nothing..

The grammar is terrible (and the spelling!).

The recording was quite artifacted throughout, it showed sinus rhythm with no pause, drop beats or brachycardia, very rare ventricular and supraventricular ectopics.
Max heart rate 136, min 54 and average 78

=

There is lots of artifact but it’s sinus rhythm throughout. There are no pauses / dropped beats or braDycardia. There are rare VEs and SVEs.

(It would make no sense at all to comment that there were no rare ectopics so there’s probably supposed to have been a full stop). Betting that voice recognition software might have been used.

basically it shows a normal heart rhythm with the occasional ectopic (neither type of ectopic is worrying).

Heartssun · 15/07/2024 20:30

what is artifact pls?
@Greybeardy

Sunflowersinthewind · 15/07/2024 20:37

It means the ectopic are rare in occurrence not a rare condition.

DatingDinosaur · 15/07/2024 20:48

"it showed sinus rhythm with no pause, drop beats or brachycardia, very rare ventricular and supraventricular ectopics."

I read this as "it showed sinus rhythm with NO pause, (no) drop beats, (no) brachycardia, (no) very rare ventricular and (or) supraventricular ectopics."

The sentence is punctuated with commas - indicating a list of things you haven't got - rather than writing it out as I have above.

I interpret the wording 'very rare...' as in those conditions are very rare rather than you have experienced these things.

If there had been an indication of anything abnormal, this would have been listed separately.

It's standard practice to pass the results to your GP. If your GP has any concerns they will be in touch to discuss your results. If they haven't been in touch then this is a good thing as they have no concerns. You could ring to ask them to clarify what the results mean if it would help put your mind at ease.

Anon22224 · 15/07/2024 20:55

I’m a cardiac nurse, you have occasional ectopics which are entirely normal, supraventricular means coming from the top of the heart (completely normal to have these) ventricular means coming from the bottom of the heart (completely normal). Some people feel them as palpitations on an occasional basis, others have them but don’t feel them.

Alcohol, stress, caffeine and tiredness can increase ectopics if the palpitations are bothering you

The results are completely normal
