Hello please advice.
I have been now discharged and I have nobody to call and ask.
From Time to time I get palpitations, last time I got I spoke to cardiologist in September 2023 on the phone appointment, I was given the Holter monitor for 48 hrs, this was done in the middle of April 2024 and today I received the results in the post ( no appointment was given)
This result made me very worried now as it seems to be contraindicated somehow.
The results was from in a letter and the cardiologist consultant:

Result:
The recording was quite artifacted throughout, it showed sinus rhythm with no pause, drop beats or brachycardia, very rare ventricular and supraventricular ectopics.
Max heart rate 136, min 54 and average 78.
There is nothing abnormal on this test, as patient already mentioned few months ago the palpitations improved I have discharged her to back to her GP.
But I read now that all these ectopic are very dangerous..so I’m confused.

Thank you ladies.
It as I read that those supraventricular are high risk beats and lead to stroke, AFib etc. that what made me worried.
Btw what is Artifact in medical meaning?

It means it’s an inaccurate reading due to interference with the electrical signal, movement/vibration etc on the leads.

I promise that they won’t lead to AF, AF can cause strokes but again you are not at risk of AF from the results of this monitor :)

@Anon22224 thank you,you are so helpful..
so if the artifacts recorded in my Holter monitoring, the reading is still reliable right?
Can it be that they assumed it’s the artifact and in reality it was something more serious?
Im sorry to ask all these questions..
I would ask there if I got an actual appointment but they only sent me the discharging letter.

I've just been to the doctor with similar. She said they don't worry about ectopics. The main thing they look for (as a cause of palpitations) is Atrial Fibrillation (AF) as this if untreated can lead to clots. You don't need to worry about ectopics, we all get them from time to time.

Ectopics are completely normal we all have them they don't lead to strokes. I have recently been diagnosed with AFib and certainly know when I am having an episode.

Yes if there was too much artefact they would ask to repeat the monitor which means they obviously got thr majority of the time period recorded

Artefact is very clear to someone trained, they won’t have mistaken this for anything else :)
