Dental Implants - Turkey

Hi.

Has anyone been to Turkey for dental implants? Can you tell me about your experience, price you paid/how long you've had them and how you're getting on with them in general.

I know ppl will say don't go/horror stories etc. But I really couldn't afford to get them done here! I had a free consultation a few weeks ago but ended up paying £130 for securing the appointment and then scans. I was quoted just over £4500 for two implants and will also need a bone graft. I just simply cannot afford this! 😔 I suspect I'll need bone grafting at all the sites as I've had missing teeth for years.

For background: I have several teeth missing (3 sites missing teeth. Bottom left 2 together, right 2 together and upper right 2 together. Abscesses, failed root canal etc). It's making it hard for me to eat on one side as there's gaps on my lower jaw as well as almost directly above too. I had a bridge on the upper right for years but recently it keeps falling off 3 x since late last year. I was told if it comes out again (which it did) my adjacent teeth will need filing down etc to help secure a new bridge. I don't want to lose anymore of my natural teeth if I can help it. These two are close to the front. They are visible when I laugh, smile and talk. I'm constantly self conscious now too. I've developed some sort of click on one side of my jaw, it really hurts the entire side of my face when it happens. Don't know if it's related to my missing teeth. I've cracked a bit of an adjacent back tooth but feel I'm overusing it to eat.

Every few months the gums along the bottom get sore. Ulcerated and painful. This has been happening for years and it's depressing. It also makes it hard to eat because of the pain and just generally not having teeth. I'm not that old (<40) and the thought of going on like this for God knows how long just fills me with dread!

Sorry I know it's long and don't know what topic to post under but thank you for reading.

The price you’ve been quote is really cheap. It was almost £3500 for one for me last year, would have been closer to £4,000 with bone graft.

Have a look at the Brighton implant centre. I wish I’d gone there tbh, I wouldn’t risk Turkey. My implant has turned out horribly and I’m having enough issues in the U.K!

@DentalDisaster did something go wrong with yours? Is there anything you can have done to rectify the problems you are having? Don't you get some sort of guarantee if you have them done here in the uk?

That was the quote given to me for two. I need 6 😔

@DentalDisaster I've used the Brighton implant place and they were really good. A few years ago now but about £1.2k which I thought was very reasonable.

DentalDisaster · 13/07/2024 14:17

Mine looks horrendous. They chose to not do a bone graft for some reason, so I now have one giant crown at the front of my face because of the way they fitted the post. I’m in constant pain where the crown digs in the roof of my mouth and my front gum, there’s no screw in it, so I’m constantly terrified it will fall out and leave me with a gap and abutment. The hygienist who did a clean before the fitting has left one tooth next to the implant in agony because she’s over polished and damaged the tooth. when I tried to get all this sorted & complained to the practice I was met with arrogance, aggression, lies and gaslighting. They never even looked in my mouth to see why I was in so much pain. They did, finally, refund me but I’m too scared to even see another dentist now.

To rectify it I would have to have the post drilled out, a bone graft and then start the whole procedure again from scratch, it would cost more than the initial implant would if they’d just done the bone graft in the first place! I dismissed Brighton because of the travel, but I’ve only seen good reports from there and their prices are amazing. I have so many regrets. If all this can happen in a U.K. dentist, I’d hate to think what Turkeys would be like after seeing so many awful Turkey teeth videos on TikTok.

BeCleverSquid · 27/07/2024 21:43

@Mrs86 did you find anywhere in Turkey for this doing, have a friend that wants to go to Turkey and trying do as much research as possible before she books anywhere. Thanks

Hi, I didn't. I've decided to go with the dentist that quoted me here in the UK. I have a work colleague who couldn't recommend them enough as they be used them too.

I have an appointment in a few days to go over the treatment plan and to see if I am eligible to apply for their loan to cover costs.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

I do hope you can get it sorted somehow. Your teeth are such an important part of yourself. 😔

I'm lisping a bit lately and trying not to smile wide or laugh too much as the gap is visible. The dentist has never said it but I think overuse of my teeth on one side is wearing them down!

blueshoes · 27/08/2024 00:52

Sounds like you are having a tough time. Are 2 implants enough to resolve your dental issues?

I don't know about Turkey dental implants but I read about All on 4 full set of dental implants. They will cost more than 4,500 but might be worth sorting it out in one go in the UK.

Mrs86 · 28/08/2024 01:10

I hope so! I will be discussing all this at my appointment. The lisping, I have noticed it more with the bridge that keeps falling out at the front of my mouth. I have other gaps at the back of my mouth too due to teeth being pulled in the past but will have to wait a little bit longer to have those done (finances).

I have just returned from Turkey for all on 6 implants. You just need to choose right dentist just like if in UK. I couldn’t recommend this dentist enough

Would you mind sharing the name of the clinic you used

If you don't mind can you please share details?

I am beyond annoyed. I went to finalise treatment this afternoon and have now been told he put the wrong price in the documents!

It's now sitting at 2k more, so £6390. Came away feeling so upset and angry.

I have been researching for some time... the best I have found is Luxury Dental Clinic Antalaya Turkey ... they have a FB page of people's experiences and many positive reviews on Trust pilot. Will be travelling shortly. Good luck

MrsAvocet · 09/01/2025 11:22

I don't understand how implants can be done abroad. My DH is currently in the middle of having one done and it has been a multi stage procedure with several weeks of healing time in between stages and a CT scan to check progress part way through. He's got the last stage where the actual tooth goes in in another couple of weeks but he whole process has taken about 4 months and at least 5 visits. If you have it done abroad it all has to be done quickly, you can't be flying out to Turkey half a dozen times? Having seen the care DH has had with his, I'd be worried about rushing something like this I must say. Of course it may be just that he is a particularly complicated case, or I suppose it's possible our UK dentist is ripping us off and doing more than is necessary, but we've had good service from them before so it seems unlikely. How long do they take over it if you go to Turkey?

Laska2Meryls · 09/01/2025 11:55

My experience is similar to MrsAvocet's husband . I used a UK dentist and It was 5 months between the initial visit and the final teeth caps being put in.. in my case I didn't have a bone graft but I did have to have a reset of one of the posts because my gum healed completely over it which meant that it was about 6weeks longer before I had the final tooth put on. But the ongoing care was excellent .. it cost me about £5500 for two adjoining implants about two years ago and tbh was well worth the money ..
Also they cannot take the imprint for your new teeth to be made until the gums and posts are healed and firmly set in place ( and mine took a few weeks before they were ready from the manufacturer) so surely you'd still need at least 3 trips if you went abroad.

Laska2Meryls · 09/01/2025 11:59

I had no problem with mine afterwards, but I knew that if I had they would have been dealt with locally and fast and as part of the price .. ( when my one post healed right over they redid it and did not charge me any more than the original quote )

ImthatBoleyngirl · 09/01/2025 15:01

As PP have said, I had to wait 2 months between the initial posts being put in and the actual implants, with a checkup in between to make sure everything was ok. I then had an appointment a couple weeks later to check they had taken well

CryptoFascist · 09/01/2025 15:09

I'm due to have an implant put in this year, it's an upper front tooth. Do you have a visible gap at any time during the process? I currently have a temp tooth on a plate while my gum heals.

clarrylove · 09/01/2025 20:54

I used to work for an implant company here in the UK. Don't go abroad for oral surgery! When you get complications, fractures etc, what are you going to do? No UK dentist will touch it. Also, they use different implant systems which need different tools etc.

MateusMeMe · 09/01/2025 22:07

If you go abroad it can take either 2 or 3 visit’s depending on the work required. In my case the first visit will involve taking all the scans and finalising the treatment plan, teeth extraction, placing of implants and measuring for and fitting temporary arches. On the second visit the implants and healing are checked and then further scans done and discussions re the final teeth arches to be made. These are then crafted, fitted and altered until the dentist and you are happy with them. At the end you are given full information with regards to implants used etc and this allows local dentists to do check ups if you wish. I have already spoken to a dentist who will do this for me. If there at problems it is not that big a hassle to return to Turkey and get things sorted. Also you can go there for your annual check up easily for less than the Uk company I visited wanted. There are bad clinics and work performed in the uk just as there are bad abroad. But in many cases work can be superior to the uk because they are doing so much of this type of work on a regular basis unlike the average uk dentist who is not specialised in it at all. Like anything you need to check the reputation of the clinic and do your research. I am using https://luxurydentalturkey.com and they have a FB page where people can ask as many questions as they like from others who have been and it is not censored.

GooseMoose2 · 09/01/2025 22:12

It’s a risk to go to Turkey. But Czech and Hungary have good dentists who are much cheaper than here.

SerenStarEtoile · 09/01/2025 23:51

Hi OP

My friend was having trouble with very loose teeth and thought she might need implants. Was recommended a clinic in Bucharest, Romania used by many UK people for the more expensive kinds of dental care. Excellent care and they discovered her serious Vit D deficiency (hence the loose teeth) that wasn’t spotted by her doctor, despite regular blood tests for a range of problems she was having. She was impressed by their thoroughness and aftercare and will be returning this year because she had to wait for improved bone density in one area, having since been taking large Vit D doses (doctor prescribed). The dentist who deals with UK patients worked in the NHS for many years. They sort accommodation (apartment, so you can either self cater or eat out). She was there for 3 days the first time, and found it all a good experience. Can’t remember the name of the clinic unfortunately but pretty sure the guy is called Mr Teasdale. She got cheap flights from Bristol (nearest airport). Conversely, her DP went to Turkey after she had recommended Bucharest (he wanted warmth), had the all his teeth extracted but the after care was crap, he bled profusely and continuously and had to return to the UK with no teeth. He’s a nurse and was luckily able to deal with his own massive blood loss, but won’t be going back there for the rest of his treatment (for which he’s paid).

Hope this may help you.
