I'm a twitching mess

Me again. I'm back. This time my username matches my problem.

I'll begin by explaining that I've got hurrendous health anxiety. Always have, Always will. So please be kind. Please.

Here gos...

I've got terrible twitches all over my body. Began over a week ago with burning in my ankle. Then my feet went to pins and needles and feeling genuinely weird. Then the bad twitches began, all over my body. It's awful when my neck twitches as it shakes my head. My knees burn too on and off but I have been squatting lots. However my body is used to lots of excercise, you should see me. I'm a machine.

I'm terrified to go to the doctors as I can't put myself through more tests and results. I'm not ready to do all that again.

What I will say is this. I exercise a lot. Daily, evening runs around 7k to 8k. Then when ive finfihes my run ill do about 10 mins of extra cardio. Plus an exercise class in the morning, every morning. Since the weather has got warmed I've noticed I've been sweating more, which I didn't do in the winter.

I'm also not a bit drinker of fluid. Maybe 2 cups of tea a day, 2 glasses of milk, a couple of small glasses of cordial.

Please talk to me about these twitches. You all know what I'm thinking. MS, MBD, brain tumours.

I can hear my muscle in my ear spasm now as I type and I've got a rhythm of twitches all around my body right now, like a symphony.

I've written this quite calmly, but that's taken disabling to calm myself the.fuck.down. as I'm feeling really quite worried about a trip to the doctors who might want to do blood tests, refere me on for tests.

I'll add I had bloods done in January fir something else. All came back normal apart from iron and blood count one. I've not been taking any supplements for iron as I don't feel tired.

Health anxiety, over exercising and a vitamin D deficiency.

You’re pushing your body too hard and not giving it what it needs in return. Only you know why.

Get some high strength vitamin d tablets in you for them next three months, calm the exercise down, and see how you go.

CrunchyCarrot · 19/06/2024 08:02

Vitamin B12 and Magnesium. Always start with the least dramatic possible causes OP!

Terrifiedshakes · 19/06/2024 08:02

Thanks lovely. Hopefully it is over excercise but I'm addicted.

I often come back from a run and only have a cup of tea after it. Someone in the wxcercise class mentioned the other day that I hadn't touched my water.

You run 8k a day but barely drink fluids? You’re probably really dehydrated.

Terrifiedshakes · 19/06/2024 08:06

But how can I be dehydrated if I don't feel it? I'm not gagging for water, I'm weeing.

I have noticed I've been sweating more since the weather has become warmer. Over the winter I didn't sweat at all after my run but I'm arriving home with a sweaty forehead the last few weeks

I mean, it’s not rocket science, is it? You’re pushing your body super hard, every day but subsisting on a probably a litre of fluids.

You’ve been told your vitamin deficient but you’re not doing anything about it, because you don’t feel tired (!) - iron does more for the body then keep you feeling not-tired.

I suggest that before you go back to the GP and waste resources on more tests that you take a good multi vitamin, iron, and up your water intake first. I say this kindly and who is medicated for health anxiety - help yourself first.

CissOff · 19/06/2024 08:10

Not being thirsty doesn’t mean you’re not dehydrated. Take some rehydration sachets.

endofthelinefinally · 19/06/2024 08:14

I agree with everyone saying over exercising, dehydration (and therefore electrolyte imbalance) Vitamin B and D deficiency and magnesium deficiency.

You can't treat your body like that and expect it to function normally. It is akin to running an engine without putting oil in it.

ObliviousCoalmine · 19/06/2024 08:15

Are you being wilfully obtuse?

DustyLee123 · 19/06/2024 08:16

Start with adequate fluid intake

Terrifiedshakes · 19/06/2024 08:18

Wilfully obtuse?

Maybe, but I'm not sure what that means.

Deep down I know I'm not looking after myself holistically and it's probably why I'm twitching. But my anxiety is so very loud it's shouting over the logical reasonable thoughts.

Off to buy some vitamin D and magnesium. Thanks for all your replies.

I have noticed I've been sweating more since the weather has become warmer.

That is generally how bodies work. Drink more water.

You're being wilfully obtuse by being seeming baffled that your body is pissed off about running 8k a night on the equivalent of about 800ml of liquid in take a day.

Lola2024 · 19/06/2024 08:36

How much do you drink at work? What job do you do?

endofthelinefinally · 19/06/2024 08:44

Get some B complex as well. What is your diet like? It is important to get vitamins and minerals from a balanced diet and supplement if necessary. Extra vitamins can't compensate for a bad diet.

HowNice23 · 19/06/2024 08:48

It could be any vitamin or mineral - people are suggesting various things but only a blood test will identify what's deficient and if really deficient you might need prescription strength boosters so I'd get another blood test... Having said that iron deficiency was flagged up medically so take notice of that and address that and absolutely yes drink more water. Maybe put some more relaxing activities in your day like yoga or meditation - I felt quite breathless just reading about all that exercise!

Terrifiedshakes · 19/06/2024 08:50

My diet is something like this:

Cornflakes with strawberries

Ham wrap

Protein pudding

Spaghetti bol/chilli/chicken wraps kind of tea

Protein shake

Glass of milk

OP posts:
StrongandNorthern · 19/06/2024 08:50

Drink lots of water - please!!

Terrifiedshakes · 19/06/2024 08:53

I absolutely love cardio. My job is quite physical too but part time. The running is a lot of uphill running also and I'll really throw myself into it. The gym classes are a mixture of strength training and cardio classes and I really try there.

I'll take advice and increase fluid intake, take some vitamins and improve my diet. If I see no improvement I will head to the gp for a blood test.

OP posts:
AuntieMarys · 19/06/2024 08:54

Don't ignore this advice about drinking more!

endofthelinefinally · 19/06/2024 08:59

I would ditch at least either the pudding or the shake. Add fresh fruit and fresh vegetables and salad. Reduce the amount of salt. Protein shakes and puddings usually aren't going to do your kidneys any good if you are not drinking loads and loads of water. Substituting fresh fruit for the pudding would be a good start. You haven't got B, D or C vitamins in that list you have provided. (Unless there are lots of added vitamins and minerals in the shake).

imeanwhy · 19/06/2024 09:02

If you do that much cardio, do you think you are having enough carbs? Could your sugar be too low too? The meals you mention seem more focused on protein than carbs and exercise needs carbs too

turkeyboots · 19/06/2024 09:04

I suggest seeing a physiotherapist. They really understand how bodies work. And will point you to a GP if they are concerned.
Your body is working very hard and probably needs some support to maintain that level of excerise.

Newbutoldfather · 19/06/2024 09:05

What is your BMI?

With that amount of exercise, you need to eat lots, mainly carbs.

If you are too thin and dehydrated, your body will really be struggling.

I would have a week off exercise, eat plenty, and allow your body to recover.

If that is impossible for you, you need to see your GP and ask for referral to an appropriate addiction counsellor.
