Any blood curdling cries ?

hecate · 07/04/2008 19:39

If you think she's broken her arm, take her to A&E!!! You could be waiting hours for a callback, and then they'll only tell you to go to the hospital. Is she in pain?

aGalChangedHerName · 07/04/2008 19:40

Gave her nurofen and she fell asleep. If i go woth no appt for West doc they won't see us

Thats why i am waiting.

Please, just get her to A&E. Don't wait for the doctor to call back.

WigWamBam · 07/04/2008 19:41

They won't see you at A&E without an appointment???

hecate · 07/04/2008 19:42

Accident and Emergency department at the Hospital do not require your gp to ring ahead! You do not need an appointment. It is an emergency public facility.

aGalChangedHerName · 07/04/2008 19:43

Could wait hours in A & E in uncomfy chairs full of drunks or i could wait here while she is asleep or wait for an appt and be seen immediatly.

WingsofanAngel · 07/04/2008 19:43

I would go to A & E our hospital has a special part just for children.

aGalChangedHerName · 07/04/2008 19:44

Our out of hours service is in A & E. It is quicker to get the appt and go there then.

You'll get sent to A&E anyway, as the GP can;t do an x-ray. Might as well get there now and start waiting!

WigWamBam · 07/04/2008 19:45

There won't be any drunks in A&E yet. And they tend to give priority to children.

You could be waiting for two hours for the doctor to ring you back. And even if you're then seen immediately by the emergency GP, he may well send you to A&E for x-rays and plastering.

morningpaper · 07/04/2008 19:46

What everyone else said

Get her to A&E, don't wait, a child with a broken limb is not going to sit around waiting for hours

Haribosmum · 07/04/2008 19:46

Yes but you'll still have to wait around at A&E if it's broken waiting to get a cast on it LOL! And there shouldn't be that many drunks on a Monday night!

katwith3kittens · 07/04/2008 19:47

If she's asleep, then I would leave her too.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 07/04/2008 19:47

Uncomfy chair, uncomfy arm......no contest really.

oxocube · 07/04/2008 19:49

Ds 2 has broken his arm twice (lower arm, both bones broken) and he was screaming in pain both times until he went to theatre and it was set. If you suspect it is broken, PLEASE go to A&E. That's what they are there for.

morningpaper · 07/04/2008 19:49

If she can't move her fingers she needs to be seen ASAP, don't hang around

Eeek · 07/04/2008 19:51

How old? My ds2 broke his at 5mo (don't ask) and it had healed within a week. He was just learning to crawl and it didn't stop him at all. They said it would be invisible within 6 weeks. Do expect some fairly serious questioning about how it happened - they were clearly checking in case it was child abuse. Dont' you have a specific children's A & E around your way? I thought all hospitals now had separate facilities for kids.

oxocube · 07/04/2008 19:58

Eeek - I agree re the questioning. When ds was 3 he broke his arm for the first time at a soft play area and then the second time, aged 5, he was at school playing on the bars (I work at said school!). The hospital staff were still pretty thorough though in checking my and ds's stories to make sure they tallied .

morningpaper · 07/04/2008 20:01

We had a few questions the THIRD time we took DD in to A&E after dropping cups of tea on her

But don't worry too much about questions, I think they look at the genitals and if it's a boy then they just smile sympathetically...

lulalullabye · 07/04/2008 20:03

Please go to A&E. I work in one, and they will see you immediatly, and xray straight away. Emergency out of hours docs don't really do broken bones very well so they always refer to A&E. Just cut out the middle man !!

A&E dont make you wait for kids

Crystaltipsandalaistar · 07/04/2008 20:15

my ds has broken arm twice and leg once. On every occasion he went white, and then fell asleep. I never needed to look at the injury as these signs were enough.
She will need an xray anyway, so you need to go to a&e to be sure.

oxocube · 07/04/2008 20:30

Crystaltips, the first time ds went white then passed out in the car on the way to the hospital. The dr said it was very common - a kid's way of dealing with the pain.
