This may lighten the mood. Once upon a time, when working for an absolute narc bastard of a man, we had to travel on train together to a very important meeting with fancy men in suits in Berlin.
My boss, who’d never had a colonoscopy, decided to start his prep en route to the meeting. Despite my very wise advice (having had it myself twice). 1.5 hrs in he’s flooding the toilet. He soiled himself on the way to the meeting in taxi and I think he even had troubles during the meeting itself. He wanted to book himself into a hotel after but couldn’t as he had to rush back home for his procedure in the morning. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer chap! Oh how we laughed!

Auburngal · 17/04/2024 21:13

I had 3 colonoscopies having 20-22 polyps removed.

I much prefer the Plenvu over Moviprep. As it’s because you don’t drink as much of Plenvu. Drinking a litre of Moviprep was agonising as so uncomfortable with a very full bladder and more difficult to consume.

Auburngal · 17/04/2024 21:17

I had a puzzle book with me when I was emptying myself. As like Billy Connolly said about colonoscopy you pull up your pants up and leave the bathroom- you get the gurgling and need to go again.

VinoEsmeralda · 17/04/2024 21:33

I just had a colonoscopy on Monday and although the lemon prep wasn't great the orange was vile. Nearly chundered the lot back up but managed to keep it down and squirted it ou, the amount of shit one stores is amazing, wish I measured it, 3 lites in, how many out?

I drank it from a frozen Moscow mule mug with straw and parasol....

Elphame · 17/04/2024 21:50

I actually completely failed on the movieprep.

I did tell them that aspartame makes me throw up but was told to suck it up. Complete waste of an appointment as not enough stayed down to have any effect. It's now on my notes to give me Picolax....

Weesweetiewife · 17/04/2024 22:00

Right there with ya this evening.. Moviprep at 7, shitting through the eye of a needle since, it's trailing off now.. Dreading the 6am one tho.. Here's to a sleep.. Good luck for yours

tupperwaretowers · 17/04/2024 22:07

Good luck to you all. My only advice is don’t trust a fart!

stoppedwindows · 17/04/2024 22:08

I've got one coming up. Appointment is 8am so when do you think I'll be prepping "?!

A reminder to slather your poor hard-working bum in Vaseline or the like so as not to add raw, chapped skin to the general misery of it all. Good luck OP!

My poor mum who is 86 has had colon cancer so has to have these often. When we arrived at the hospital after two days of eating very little and pooping a lot she was so sore she had to have a wheelchair to walk in. Definitely Vaseline and or sudocreme

stayathomer · 17/04/2024 22:23

Someone on mn informed me that in the states they take a tablet. I am so irrationally angry over it- can you ask tomorrow for all uk and Irish colonoscopy people why the (f word?!)

Hope you get through it all ok, op, seven up helped a little for me (and a good book for tomorrow)

stoppedwindows · 17/04/2024 22:35

@StormKate mine was 8 30 so I started the 2 nd lot of prep at 3 /4 am and had the 1st lot at 5pm the day before

They never offered me a tablet!

I had to do a low to no fibre diet starting three days before the procedure, then a liquid diet the day before (8 ozs of liquids every hour).

Then four Dulcolax tablets taken at 5pm (is this the tablets you've heard of?) and drink 8 ozs of Miralax powder divided between two 32 Oz bottles of light coloured gatorade, one drunk at 6pm followed by copious amounts of water, and then the other five hours later followed by more water. I threw up the last glass of gatorade/ miralax.

I have to go back in 5-7 years and I'm already dreading it.

I think im just forgetting how awful moviprep was, I couldn't have anything lemon for a long time after. Does it hurt having polyps removed I only have 1 to remove. Iv chose no sedation as I was fine last time without but it was just the colonoscopy

I’ll have to ask about that. I had one last year with the drink and forgot to get flavouring, drank too fast, and vomited all over the bathroom. 😂 still had enough in me to get a good scan. They also sedated me which was new, my 20yrs previous one was not, they looked at me and said “why on earth would you do that?!”

I will because whoever invented prep clearly hates people 🤣

Have you seen the movie “Ghost Town” with Ricky Gervais?
He plays a crabby dentist who has to get a colonoscopy and wakes up afterwards with the ability to see ghosts.
His prep is this thick, white, gloopy gross stuff of nightmares in a huge container.
And then the nurse the next day pre-op asks him all sorts of questions that gross him out.
Funny.

eyeofaneedle · 18/04/2024 03:37

Yes, I forgot about that film 🤣

Sedation helps with moving the camera and device that removes any polyps around the bends of the colon.

Or can have gas n air and breathe it in when feeling uncomfortable from the above
