Black vaginal discharge

Tillyminny · 28/03/2024 19:08

ive had black vaginal discharge for 10 days now. It followed my period. I’ve had it before which lasted one day and disappeared, but this has been going on for 10 days. There’s no smell, and I’ve not left a tampon there. I’ve got sore boobs too. I’ve just past the day I was supposed to ovulate but my ovulation tests have been completely blank with just a control line. Had anyone had this before?

You need to be seen ASAP. That's not normal at all. Is it dried blood?

Is it black or just really dark brown dried blood?

I would be concerned, you need to make a same day appointment with a G.P/health clinic. Could be anything slow flow, implantation, something stuck, infection. Have you tried a pregnancy test?

Black or dark brown? Dark brown is old blood which should still be checked out. I had black discharge after I had cervical cells removed/burnt off but i assume you haven't had this done?

Call 111 for advice. Do you have any pain or fever symptoms?

Report
Tillyminny · 28/03/2024 21:39

It’s thick. It’s not constant, it just happens every now and again throughout the day and night.

@MassiveOvaryaction ive not had a fever but there is a slight pain in my lower left side so I was thinking it might be an ovarian cyst

@CMOTDibbler thanks for the link I’ll take a look. Yes I’ve been TTC for 4 years but unfortunately left it a little too late. The doctors told me that there’s a less than 1% chance of it happening. Also I’ve had a period (my usual extremely heavy type due to fibroids) so I don’t think I’d be pregnant.

@RickyGervaislovesdogs ive had a period since my last ovulation so I couldn’t be pregnant. Plus I’m 47 🙈. The first couple of days I just thought it was blood taking longer to leave because I know that’s common and I’ve had that before. But I’ve never had it for this long

You could actually still be pregnant? Maybe… I had a period too, then I was pregnant about 2 months in- I’d been boozing (due to holidays/ parties/weddings/ overeating). 😳DD is almost 8!

You may have a high pain threshold? I don’t, I cry if I get a splinter, but DM broke a bone and just let it slide. Please book in tomorrow.

A friend had something similar, I forget the name of what she had sorry, it was benign but could turn cancerous. It wasn’t polyps/warts, just some growths for want of words so she had them removed. Quick, simple procedure, no pain, hardly any downtime. Better to be safe than sorry.

@RickyGervaislovesdogs yes I’ll call the doctors. They’ll probably be closed over Easter so I’ll call them Tuesday.

It has just started again but less thick but more of it.

I was thinking it could be linked to perimenapause because I’ve definitely got sore swollen boobs so possibly linked to hormones. Usually I ovulate on exactly the predicted date so the fact that my ovulation test is blank too could mean it’s hormones.

I get this. I have endometriosis. I had surgery 3 years ago but it has returned along with the black/ dark brown bleeding.

I’d order yourself a pregnancy test just in case, or pick one up tomorrow. Fibroids or problems could cause an ectopic.
If it’s negative, you wouldn’t be unreasonable contacting out of hours over the weekend with those symptoms. But the first thing they would ask you is if you’ve done a pregnancy test.

@deflatedbirthday ive had lots of scans due to fibroids and they haven’t picked up on endometriosis

Endo can't be picked up on scans, it's a key reason it's so under diagnosed. It's usually diagnosed by symptoms but usually only be confirmed through surgery.

NC03 · 28/03/2024 22:30

@Shroedy that's partly why I'm worrying what they will find in surgery with mine - I was diagnosed off an ultrasound, they said it was so obvious Blush

deflatedbirthday · 28/03/2024 22:42

I was also diagnosed by ultrasound. My ovary was adhered to my pelvic wall and some lesions were visible on the scan.

@Shroedy oh I didn’t realise it couldn’t be picked up by scans. @NC03 I hope your tests are clear

I wouldn’t wait until Tuesday, especially as you have some pain.

You're right that the impact of endo can be picked up on scans (like adhesions) where there is that kind of impact but the endo itself can't be and even severe endo doesn't necessarily have that kind of outcome.
