Black vaginal discharge

Tillyminny · 28/03/2024 19:08

ive had black vaginal discharge for 10 days now. It followed my period. I’ve had it before which lasted one day and disappeared, but this has been going on for 10 days. There’s no smell, and I’ve not left a tampon there. I’ve got sore boobs too. I’ve just past the day I was supposed to ovulate but my ovulation tests have been completely blank with just a control line. Had anyone had this before?

@MsFaversham the pain isn’t unbearable. And it comes and goes. I can feel it if I press on it but sometimes that’s the only way a can feel the pain.

@deflatedbirthday that sounds horrendous. I’m sure the operation was painful 🙈

Even so, four days is quite a while to wait. If it gets any worse, please call 111 at least.

@MsFaversham thanks ☺️. I’ll keep monitoring it. The pain has gone and is only mild now on that side when I press. I keep comparing it to the other side.

I’ve just done a pregnancy test and it was negative, so I can rule out ectopic pregnancy

I finally got an appointment yesterday. I had to go to an overflow surgery or wait until May for an appointment. I’d done a pregnancy test just to make sure and that was negative. After 12 days of the dark discharge I had the worst period…changing my maximum strength tampons every 15 minutes. The doctor said that it’s most likely because of my age and I’m approaching menopause. She has given me some swabs to test for infection but she says given my age and the fact I’ve been in a long term Telford 15 years it’s unlikely to be that. She is referring me for a scan and also blood tests to test my thyroid. I’ll update this thread when I get the results so hopefully it will help someone else in the future.

I have had this and it was a degenerating fibroid if that is any help.

@Weefreetiffany i had all the scans and they didn’t find anything sinister. I have got fibroids and as @Katy7889 mentioned - I thought it may have been degeneration of fibroids but on the scan there were no changes. So the doctor put it down to my age and hormonal changes. Out of interest how old are @Weefreetiffany if you don’t mind me asking? I’m 48. After that incident my periods went back to normal (heavy due to fibroids) but then last month I had a period that lasted 3 weeks. I went back to the doctor and they gave me Norethisterone to make it stop. I took it for 10 days and then my period started again but it was lighter than normal. I think it tricks your body into thinking it’s pregnant so I was hoping a few fibroids may die at the same time (apparently they do when you’re pregnant!).

How did they diagnose this @Katy7889 ? I have lots of fibroids and often wonder what the signs are of the degenerating!

@Tillyminny glad it all worked out

Oh god, huge drama for me but I was an extreme case.

So I had the black discharge which I could recognise as something necrotic and in addition I had random temperatures which came and went

and occasional severe pain where I was doubled over in agony.

I had a CT scan which showed probable degeneration but as I understand only an MRI can show dead tissue for sure and then it was confirmed when I had a hysterectomy so as I understand it is only MRI or pathology that can tell you for sure but symptoms and ultrasound or ct can tell you that is likely,

Oh gosh, it sounds like it was quite traumatic for you. I was offered a hysterectomy for my fibroids but seeing as I’m 48 I guess the menopause is just around the corner and hopefully they’ll go away then!

I was getting really sharp sudden pains which made me double too during the ultra long period I mentioned. Part of me thought it could have been the fibroids degenerating but I guess I’ll never know.
