How do you get rid of half used calpol?

Hiya, I have about 3 half full calpol bottles I need to throw out. Do I tip calpol down the sink or am I supposed to take it somewhere for proper disposal so it doesnt get into the environment/water. Thanks

Ah, I'm glad to read P2, I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought the idea of 'left over Calpol' was a bit odd, let alone 3 bottles.

I mean, why would you start bottle 2, and then bottle 3 before finishing bottle 1? Confused

I Agree.
We take all medication back.
Take it into a pharmacy so they can dispose of it safely.

Dispose of it safely?!

It's Calpol, not napalm. 😂

Pharmacist has a massive workload..bin for me . They really can do without calpol being disposed by them .

So pleased to see the later replies. Just use it, no need to get rid of it at all. Although I'm another who is really confused as to why anyone would open bottles two and three before finishing the first one...

They will laugh at you if you hand it into a pharmacy. It’s not a controlled drug so doesn’t need to be handed in. Throw it in the bin

Yep. Our pharmacy took back out of date prescription steroids but not the out of date ibuprofen.

I suppose then every pharmacy is different. We always took any medication, regardless of what it is. It’s capol like you say, however incorrect disposal could lead to a child or pet finding it if put in general waste, and damage to the environment if flushed down the toilet or sink.
every pharmacy website and the NHS say the same.

we take capol in….not napalm tho 😜

Maybe Boots will take unused medicines. I am sure that I saw a box to put them in at my shop.

Boots definitely take unused meds. My late parents had tablets they had not used and I took them to Boots. They don’t want the outer boxes of things though

Bin ! Or down the sink or loo. It’s weak paracetamol

Overthinker89 · 28/03/2024 20:39

Hey guys, wow turns out this is a popular topic. Ha. Ended up with three bottles as had one and forgot about it in the fridge, went on holiday and got another and another one is from Dad's house (single parent) and his Dad sent it back with his stuff. Long and short, they've been sat in the back of the fridge for bloody ages and don't say when they go out of date so playing it safe and starting again. It's the cheap tesco version of calpol so luckily not the expensive stuff!

Why do you keep it in the fridge? NHS guidance is to keep it in a cool, dry cupboard.
