Breasts sink when lying down

Please bear with me but I would love to hear if anyone has experienced something similar as my HA is through the roof.
I used to have quite large breasts for my small frame, then had 2 kids, breastfed each for 12 months and lost weight. I'm now 41 and my breasts sag alot but what really worries me is that when I lie on my back, the area around the areola and beyond turns wrinkly and sinks in. My nipples don't invert however. That area just looks wrinkly and empty. The skin feels thin.
I went to the GP who said he can't feel any lumps but has arranged an ultrasound to be sure. While I wait, can anyone tell me if they have experienced anything similar? The lower half of my breasts feel really empty compared to the upper half, so could this be why they look like this when lying down? Ie. due to breastfeeding/weightloss/age, or is this something worse?

See your doctor if you think there is something medically wrong with your breasts

Get help while you are there for your HA

No one on here is going to be able to tell you anything useful as we are
a) not doctors
B) not going to tell you not to worry in case you do need to see a doctor

Abs811 · 21/03/2024 12:43

@pimplebum I know no one on here is a Dr which is why I went to my GP, I just asked to see if anyone has had a similar experience which could help to calm my mind while I wait for my ultrasound

Seriously you need help for your health anxiety.

Abs811 · 21/03/2024 12:51

I don't understand all the unkind comments... there are so many posts like this out there with people sharing their experiences or supportive words

Have you been watching porn at all? They stay good and perky when they ‘re pumped full of silicon.

SeaToSki · 21/03/2024 12:52

Mine do that, its loss of tissue density/skin elasticity due to aging and breast feeding.

Please see if you can get some therapy for the HA. CBT or talking therapy might be helpful, you GP can refer you

dementedpixie · 21/03/2024 12:53

You've probably just lost some fat from your breasts so you have more empty space with a bit of excess skin left behind.

Hellohihola · 21/03/2024 12:54

I suffer with HA also, so I can really sympathise with how you are feeling.

I cannot relate to your symptoms unfortunately, but the great news is you have been referred and soon you will know if it is anything to worry about (which to me it doesn’t sound like it but I’m not a GP).

Ignore the unhelpful comments OP 💐

Abs811 · 21/03/2024 12:55

@SeaToSki thank you your message. It's really the sinking in and wrinkling of the tissue around the areola and below when lying down that scares me. It looks odd. However not noticeable when standing up.

Abs811 · 21/03/2024 12:56

@Hellohihola thank you for that, I appreciate your kind words

Mine are a bit like that. I'm big boobed and they are a bit saggy due to the size, so when I lie down they go to the side and the area near my nipples kind of goes flat and a bit wrinkly. I'm not sure why you've ad so many unkind comments. I'd guess it's more likely to be normal than not.

Abs811 · 21/03/2024 13:29

Thanks Buster, I hope its normal but with HA there's always a worry, although hearing other people's experiences does calm me. I guess what I'm scared of more than anything is the skin visibly sinks inwards where it wrinkles when lying down...

Ignore the nasty lot.

Yes it does sink in as it's become less dense and lost some elasticity. There's no dense tissue to hold the weight if that makes sense

Take care x

Abs811 · 21/03/2024 13:53

@hannsmum thank you and that's exactly how that part of my breasts feel, like they've lost elasticity and their dense tissue.

It's really helpful to hear from people because when I Googles breasts that sink inwards with wrinkles, it came up with all kinds of horror stories...

The problem I think people have with what you're asking is that people with Health Anxiety constantly seek reassurance from others for things that they need to be dealing with themselves.

You have already sought medical help and your GP appears to have been sympathetic and provided tests that will rule out any concerns.

But because of your health anxiety - this is not enough for you, you want more reassurance ....and more....and more.

You need to be working on how you manage your health anxiety yourself- asking others for reassurance is not doing this.

shearwater2 · 21/03/2024 13:58

My breasts have always fallen to the side when I lie down- saggy or not. I first noticed it when I was 18.

I just wanted to say that going to the gym regularly and doing weights, particularly those which target the pectorals, has helped. Both the size and weight of my breasts had decreased plus they feel a bit better supported and less saggy.

fatphalange · 21/03/2024 13:59

Completely and utterly normal, OP. Many, many, many, many women will relate Flowers

SetinTime · 21/03/2024 14:02

Welcome to post baby breasts OP. Mine are like a pair of long socks with a golf ball on the inside 😂😂😂

Nothing to worry about love.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 this made my day

I can totally relate

Shiveringinthecountry · 21/03/2024 14:31

OP, try to ignore the comments from those that just want to be nasty. Isn't it weird the way that some people hang around Mumsnet looking for opportunities to have a go at other people? Ignore them. It's perfectly clear that you were just asking whether anybody else had experienced the same as you Flowers

Abs811 · 21/03/2024 15:51

@Shiveringinthecountry thank you and I am glad I did ask as a lot of lovely people have responded sharing their experiences...

MadKittenWoman · 21/03/2024 19:55

Normal.

pimplebum · 22/03/2024 05:46

I apologise if my comment came across as " nasty" it really was intended to be a firm head wobble not un kind

You need to deal with your health anxiety and not fixate on your boobs

You should not be seeking reassurance from us as it will never be enough and next time it will be another body part that you are asking about

Focus on what is really the problem and work on that

Ie rather than ask let's discuss our boob problems, it would have been better to have asked
" I have health anxiety , if you do too, how do you cope with obsessive thoughts?"

I hope that comes across as kinder and more helpful advice op

Iwantmybed · 22/03/2024 06:01

As a GG cup, the only time I'm flat chested is when I'm lying down, I quite like tbh. I'm not sure how it's a health concern though, surely it's physics.

MeinKraft · 22/03/2024 06:18

Fgs let the woman ask whatever she wants, would we rather people walked around panicking about 'is this normal' and not feeling able to ask, how helpful would that be?

Anyway OP I don't get this but I suspect that's just because mine are a different shape to yours. Hope it turns out alright for you.
