Mouse intestines... can someone calm me down b

MumOfHals · 07/03/2024 08:04

I am having a bit of a panic & wondering if anyone can make me see sense..

My daughter and our neighbours kid were playing outside on Sunday; as we got outside my neighbour said that isn’t worms, that is mouse intestines… a cat was playing with a cat 🤮

Anyway, my neighbour got it with a spade and chucked it into our nature reserve.

My husband hosed the road down

And the girls continued playing…

I now have a fear, that my daughter and I will get ill from it… even though we never touched it.

Some how I feel like it’s going to have got onto her bike tire or her wheel, or her shoes ( which I actually chucked anyway )

I scrubbed our hands more than you can imagine when we came in…

But Google has lead me to Weils Disease & Hantavirus infection.
(the latter I’ve not heard off and it sounds pretty rare) I’m sure cats bring this stuff into owners house or a regular

I’m 30 weeks pregnant so the hormones are everywhere!

But I don’t have animals for this reason

This is your second thread in a matter of hours on this. How many times do you want people to tell you that this is a massive overreaction and the product of major anxiety?

AgentProvocateur · 07/03/2024 08:23

Huge overreaction chucking away her shoes. I think you should speak to your GP about this, because it’s not a normal reaction. And stop Googling!

I’m assuming you suffer from health anxiety as you are being very irrational. She’ll be fine.

Wolfiefan · 07/03/2024 08:34

Another one saying you sound like you have extreme health anxiety. Seek treatment for that.

Hoglet70 · 07/03/2024 08:34

I've been cleaning up mouse intestines on my kitchen floor with a paper towel and a spray of Dettol for donkeys years. NEVER been ill. Calm down woman!

Strugglingtodomybest · 07/03/2024 08:37

Sorry you're feeling so bad, but as others have said, it's a complete over reaction. Please see you GP about your anxiety before you pass it on to your DD.

MassiveOvaryaction · 07/03/2024 08:51

You're not well love, you need help.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/03/2024 09:46

My cat once brought a bird in and wouldn't let me get to it. She killed it in our living room and ate part of it. Once she left a dead bird for us to find. DH cleaned it up and unconnected got ill a few days later and we were joking about it coming from the bird. She used to leave bits of mouse in the garden. Thankfully she seems to have retired now. My point is this stuff happens all the time. No one will get ill from this. Please get help x

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/03/2024 10:04

Just read you threw away her shoes? That's extreme

RoseNy · 07/03/2024 10:05

This is the second version of this thread I have seen, both with different detail - the last one said your husband got rid of it in a verge or something.

edit, it’s actually the 3rd thread’ - the initial one was about ‘thats not a worm’

Same same
Sometimes if the mouse hasn't "burst" I don't even use the spray Blush

Zaxi · 07/03/2024 10:21

Why on earth did you throw away her shoes????

This is not a rational reaction.

Deadringer · 07/03/2024 10:23

I am not trying to be cruel but honestly you will damage your child more than mouse guts if you don't get some help from a professional.

FrothyDonkeyMilk · 07/03/2024 10:32

OP - I don't tend to go back throuugh threads but you have a few regarding concerns over germs and illnesses.

I echo was PP have said - you need help for this. It's an extreme reaction to a fairly harmless item and you risk passing on your paranoia to your child.

I suspect illnesses, pregnancy hormones and maybe grief over your lost dog may all be playing a role but rather than ask MN to talk you down all the time, you need coping mechanisms you can implement yourself. Even if it's a total Google ban on these things. I don't think the internet is helping you here.

itsachange2024 · 07/03/2024 10:35

Just forget about it. Our cat brings boles etc in though usually whole. Weils disease is more rats and from their urine.

itsachange2024 · 07/03/2024 10:36

Voles and mice

Ilovemyshed · 07/03/2024 10:40

What utter nonsense. You are completely overwrought and unreasonable. Grow up.

PoochiesPinkEars · 07/03/2024 10:44

You binned her shoes!
You've channeled your Florence Nightingale (she knew what she was doing) and done the hygienic thing, hand wash.
That's it. That's all you need to do.

I'm feeling for your child, for their sake you need to calm down or you're going to give her problems!!

PoochiesPinkEars · 07/03/2024 10:45

And Weil's disease only affects you if it gets in your blood (through a cut say). You can swallow the pathogen and it won't make you ill!

Not helpful. The lady has severe anxiety. Be nice

Same and my 4 kids have all made it to adulthood.
I think my lax cleaning skills have improved their immunity tbh.

WorkingLateAgain · 07/03/2024 10:48

There’s all sorts of things on our streets. There will be rats/mice etc every day scurrying along the streets where you walk. I don’t say this to worry you but to reassure you. Your daughter walks and cycles amongst this stuff every time she goes out, there just isn’t always a dead animal there to make you think about it more, and she’s absolutely fine. As are all the other kids whose parents probably have less hygiene standards than you. Try to relax because it is all fine.

Or you could grow up. Any adult could read between the lines and see that OP is likely suffering from health anxiety, ocd or something along those lines. Go and be an ignorant, nasty arse somewhere else.

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/03/2024 11:04

They've never made my cats ill and they're a regular kitty take away for our 2. Stop worrying.
