Hand hold- food poisoning hurts :(

I went out with family to a restaurant this evening and had a chicken dish. I’m now in severe upper abdomen pain with body aches and have had the runs all night, not slept at all. I’m feeling chilly/shaky as well. Have maxed out on the daily dose of Imodium already and I’m feeling sorry for myself :(
I usually sleep next to my baby and share our bed with him but as I was taking my 14th trip to loo husband swapped sides with me so I didn’t keep disturbing the baby. I don’t know what else to do. Drinking water doesn’t help, seems to go straight through me!
please only kind comments as I’m in so much pain!

@Amidying I'll give you a has hold op because the stomach ache is so painful. Have you tried a hot water bottle on your belly , I find it does provide a little soothing

Thanks for the hand hold. I don’t think I will make it down the stairs to make myself a hot water bottle. im hobbling around doubled over. I have asked DH to go and see if he can find it. Currently breast feeding my baby in bed starting to feel nauseous and trying not to cry like a baby!

It's terrible I've had it myself, hopefully the worst of it will be over in the next few hours and you stomach will stop cramping and hurting as much . Hope you feel better soon op

To add insult to injury my DH is refusing to believe it’s food poisoning because we’ve eaten at the restaurant for years. As if that’s a guarantee they won’t ever be able to undercook some chicken 🙄

Tittyfilarious · 03/03/2024 06:17

It really does just take an undercooked meat to cause it , last time I had it was from a take away we have used for 20 years both me and my son got food poisoning from chicken .

Overtheatlantic · 03/03/2024 06:28

Have you taken any Diorylite? This will help replenish the nutrients in your system and hopefully you will start to feel better. 💐

A DH who digs his heels in about such a pointless issue when his wife is seriously suffering? Is a twat of a DH generally

SusanSHelit · 03/03/2024 06:33

Get yourself some enterogel from the pharmacy (actually get dh to get it for you)

It's not the nicest tasting thing in the world but it's not awful and it binds to the nasties in your stomach and does provide some relief

If you can't keep water down and no improvement in 3 days then a&e for fluids and stronger anti diahorrea meds

Caz101x · 03/03/2024 06:34

Peppermint or ginger is good for this, if you've got some ginger ale try taking sips of it (not gulps) or suck a polo or something similar.

Jensbiscotti · 03/03/2024 06:40

If you have any tinned fruit in the house like (peaches) take a tablespoon of the syrup as it replenishes electrolytes. If you vomit or have diarrhoea within an hour of taking it, rinse and repeat. If all else fails small sips regularly of flat coke.

Well WTF does he think it is? An ingrowing toenail?

Gentle hugs to you. If you've got any jelly in the house, get him to make for you for later. The sugar will help keep you going. Or full fat coke (stirred so it goes flat).

Peopletalkingwithoutlistening · 03/03/2024 06:56

You poor thing op. I’m not sure Immodium is a good idea in these circs when your body is trying to protect you by expelling contaminated food.

Tell your twunt of a dh that the origin doesn’t matter - you are ill and in pain and breast-feeding and in case he is in any doubt at all - this is the moment when he needs to stop making twuntish comments, step up and take charge of baby, and to let you sleep alone and recover. Sleep really is the best medicine once the worst of the v&d is over op.

WhatsApp your dh a list now and tell him that the minute the shops are open today he needs to dress the baby and take them out to chemist to buy diorylite and anything else you might need and dry crackers and soda water or Sprite (to drink flat) from supermarket plus Dettol for cleaning sink and loo, plus some frozen or tinned food supplies, extra loo rolls, Dettol wipes, and anything the family needs to cover meals today and tomorrow , plus nappies and everything to keep your baby happy, just in case he goes down with it later. Plus you don’t want to have to go out for 48 hrs, especially not to a food shop.

Then tell him to come back, start cleaning the kitchen and put washing on and get stuck in to the Sunday chores and looking after the baby as you will be sleeping and recovering. And tell him to get some bed linen ready so that when you are well enough to have a shower, he is ready to change your bed.

Thanks but I am type 1 diabetic so I think the sugar in that stuff will send my sugar levels high, so probably make me feel worse :(

Not a bad husband but being a bit thick when it comes to this. I was feeling exhausted and run down from a lot of sleepless nights with the baby so he reckons it’s a bug. He took the baby early morning yesterday and I managed to catch up on some sleep and was feeling like me again yesterday so I really don’t think it’s a bug.

Yeah syrup and sugar isn’t good for my diabetes unfortunately :(

He thinks it’s a tummy bug.

i forgot to say in my OP that I’m type one diabetic so all those sugary remedies people are suggesting are no good for me :(

I feel for you @Amidying when you've got food poisoning you really KNOW it's food poisoning - let's hope your DH doesn't start feeling I'll soon!!!
I had it years ago and I'll never forget how horrendous it was.
Don't take any more of anything for now and only rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after being ill.
Ice cubes or ice chips can help or teeny tiny sips of water - but until the sickness and Diarrhea settle, try not to drink too much as it'll just keep your tummy spasming x

modgepodge · 03/03/2024 07:27

I’m sure you know what you’re doing but as a diabetic is not keeping any food down and repeatedly vomiting not also very bad for you - could send your blood sugar too low? I’m no expert btw. You might need to seek medical advice sooner than non diabetics?

Mindymomo · 03/03/2024 07:31

I’ve had food poisoning from a pub meal that we all had, but mine looked and tasted different, it was shepherds pie and I wondered if mine was leftover from day before or maybe reheated more than once. We were on holiday, DH took DC out to zoo for the day, so I stayed in bed, near the toilet, I took some Imodium after about 8 hours of rushing to the toilet, but until you’ve experienced food poisoning, you don’t realise how bad it is. I was a lot better the next day. DH also got it on holiday after eating kidney beans, he was in bed 3 days out of a 7 day holiday.

Luckily I did a food shop yesterday before we went to the restaurant so we have loads of stuff at home and enough cleaning/house supplies. The baby is up and playing in bed while he is snoring. I’m going to have to kick him out of bed soon! I feel like there is an alien inside me trying to get out it hurts so much 😢

To everyone that has suggested sugary fizzy drinks, do you know if the diet versions will have the same benefits? I can’t have sugar due to my diabetes

Phone a pharmacy and ask what you can take as a diabetic coping with food poisoning to prevent dehydration. So sorry you are going through this 💐

I'd also avoid immodium if food poisoning.

BonzoGates · 03/03/2024 07:44

Check with NHS 24/pharmacist about sugary drinks when ill as a diabetic. You might be able to have them to counteract diabetes but you'd need to check.

BonzoGates · 03/03/2024 07:45

So far I haven’t actually vomited but I do feel sick. I haven’t tried to eat anything yet and I don’t think I will because I really don’t think it will be good. Yes, it could be dangerous if my sugar levels are low and I’m not keeping anything down but when unwell they tend to run high and they are high at the moment so just trying to top up my insulin slightly. Hopefully it doesn’t go low though because I’d have to eat/drink something sugary!
