Hand hold- food poisoning hurts :(

I went out with family to a restaurant this evening and had a chicken dish. I’m now in severe upper abdomen pain with body aches and have had the runs all night, not slept at all. I’m feeling chilly/shaky as well. Have maxed out on the daily dose of Imodium already and I’m feeling sorry for myself :(
I usually sleep next to my baby and share our bed with him but as I was taking my 14th trip to loo husband swapped sides with me so I didn’t keep disturbing the baby. I don’t know what else to do. Drinking water doesn’t help, seems to go straight through me!
please only kind comments as I’m in so much pain!

I'd get medical advice sooner. I've had food poisoning for a few days once when I couldn't eat properly at all.

You poor thing. Get dh to look after baby - very least he can do.

FoxSticks · 03/03/2024 07:52

Definitely contact GP, they might want to take samples to confirm it is food poisoning.

Woodentu · 03/03/2024 07:56

Call 111. You need to get medical advice. I was hospitalised with food poisoning when young and fit with no other conditions.

Thanks for all the replies. DH has finally taken little one downstairs so I can try to get some rest on my own. I don’t have the energy to ring round some pharmacies right now and I don’t think any near me will be open until much later due to Sunday hours. I could ask DH to do it for me but I will have to tell him exactly what to say regarding my diabetes it would be easier for me to just do it 🙄 will see how I feel a bit later if I can try to get some rest now x

My gp won’t be open and if 111 tell me to go a&e I will cry because I really don’t feel I can. I’m so exhausted too. I’m hoping after some rest I will be in a better place x

I've always drunk low calorie ginger ale and I eat sugar free polos, purely as I didn't want to rot my teeth from all the sugar. I'm not diabetic so can't advise anymore. Hope you get some rest.

BonzoGates · 03/03/2024 08:39

You need to phone 111 OP

fruity81 · 03/03/2024 08:54

i can’t fathom how feeling violently nauseous and tapping away on a mumsnet thread is possibly compatible

Thank heavens your dh has woken up op! I do hope you feel much better soon.

Oh you poor thing.
No advice for you really but just a bit of info, it is unlikely that the chicken you ate is the cause of your problems. It will have been something you ate earlier in the day or even the day before.
There are virtually no food poisoning bacteria that make you ill that quickly. Unless your food was poisoned it simply would not work that quickly.
It's what people do, they get ill and they blame the last thing they ate
None of this helps you but there you are

PinkFrogss · 03/03/2024 09:33

I hope you’re getting some rest OP Flowers

Not long to go now then you’ll be feeling a bit better

BonzoGates · 03/03/2024 20:12

Hope you are feeling much better tonight OP

Lovemusic82 · 03/03/2024 20:38

Hope you’re feeling better soon OP. I had salmonella a couple years ago, wasn’t sick but had the worst diarrhoea, the pain was up there with labour pains, I ended up in A&E as it went on for days, eventually got conformed as salmonella. I wouldn’t take anything to try and stop it as what ever it is needs to get out of your system, drink plenty of water and flat coke (for energy).

Amidying · 03/03/2024 21:07

Thanks for your messages. The diarrhoea has almost stopped but I still feel nauseous and belly is still really painful. Also getting backache and muscle pains. DH gave me a little back rub earlier and has helped soothe it a bit but I wish he would just rub my back all night 🤣
i managed to eat a bit of toast and tried to eat my roast dinner but felt better eating a pack of salt and vinegar crisps for some reason 😂 have managed to drink some dioralyte and a cup of ginger tea, also some sips of water, so far so good. I just need the stomach spasms to calm down and I think I’ll make it 😅
im such a wimp/princess when I get ill but I can’t help it. This genuinely was an awful one!

Sounds like your out the other side now and it’s just your body recovering, not active illness.

Hope you manage to sleep through the pain as much as possible tonight and wake up feeling even better

BonzoGates · 03/03/2024 22:15

You're not being a wimp or being a princess OP. Glad you are starting to feel human
