Eurgh I have scabies and it's the worse thing I could ever imagine. The itch is something out of this world. I need help. I cannot sleep I can't concentrate or focus on a thing. I used permethrin Friday evening. I definitely have more rash since then and the itch is no better. Does this mean it hasn't worked. I have another to use again Friday. The fact more spots have appeared is contradictory online. Some say it's due to the cream and everything dying and the reaction becoming worse, others as still being bitten. I need help and advice please! Ive been using tea tree oil on the worst patches. Antihistamines do not help. Completely miserable

how have you managed to get that?

unbearableitch · 30/01/2024 19:21

Well I presume from a place of work...

Hi, just wondering how you are now? My doc prescribed me lyclear and I covered myself in it last Thursday, due to use the next tube tomorrow but my arms and the itch is unbearable. It’s now gone into one big red rash so I don’t know if that means I’ve taken a reaction.

did you see any improvement after the 2nd dose?

unbearableitch · 14/02/2024 14:37

Hi, yes after the second cream things improved massively. I was covered in a rash, my hips, waist, back, both arms, arm pits, hands, belly, back. It was horrendous. I feel it did get worse after treatment but I wasn't sure if it was the treatment or just the actual rash worsening. My rash has completely gone now and I can finally sleep. After a bath and sometimes when I'm hot at night the tops of my arms can still be itchy but I think it's because my skin there is so dry. There was so many horror stories online I didn't think there was an end in sight so I'm pleased to say it got better and faster than I expected after what I was reading. 🤞🏻 for results for you too. I used tea tree oil in my baths and mixed in my moisturiser too throughout the day and at bed time/during the night when I was waking up due to the itch. It was hell so I feel your pain if you're itching

There's lots of it around at the moment, I'm a GP and have seen a good few cases recently.

I’m just back from docs and he doesn’t think it’s scabies now. He’s prescribed an intense course of steroids for 3 days and topical cream so will see how that works. If not, I’ll try the 2nd dose of lyclear. Whatever it is, the itch is sending me slightly delirious 🙈, hope it goes away soon.

Glad you’ve finally got some relief! I can’t wait until I’m also saying that!

unbearableitch · 14/02/2024 16:21

I saw 2 doctors and 3 pharmacists all who said it wasn't scabies as it didn't present how they would expect and it wasn't Inbetween my fingers. After me arguing and pushing they finally agreed to treat for scabies if it would make me feel better. I had been given steroid creams and anti fungal creams making no difference. It was definitely scabies
I hope it works for you 🤞🏻

Yeah pretty much, I wish I had some more photos to show you. I will upload what I have but I have covered in moisturiser so it's very shiny looking. I do feel like that could have easily been my arm at times and it ended up all over the tops of my hands too

Yeah it definitely looks similar but I’ve only got it on my forearms. Not my hands, fingers or upper arms.

I’ll try this stuff the doc has given me and if I don’t see any improvement by Friday I’ll do the 2nd lyclear dose. I’m at the stage I’ll literally try anything.

thanks very much for replying

unbearableitch · 14/02/2024 19:16

Yeah mine slowly spread to the outside of my hands but never to fingers. I don't know if it was all the scratching made it worse. The nights were unbearable. Antihistamines weren't touching it. Hopefully what you have works

My dd had it uni last year. Loads of her student friends got it too. Thankfully Her GP was very good diagnosing it. But it took so long to get rid of and in the end she had to come home for a while to get help with her Washing and treatment application. It was awful.

How are you getting on???

Sooo much better thanks for asking!

The itching has almost gone, my arms still look a mess but the itch has reduced so much and I’ve managed to sleep the last couple of nights! I’ve no idea if it was scabies or not and probably never will now. I just found it strange no one else in my house got them too. You’d think my husband at the very least would!

have your spots cleared up yet?

CountdownFast · 17/02/2024 20:33

Do you work with children?

I don’t

CountdownFast · 17/02/2024 20:43

Where do you think you picked them up?

I hate that you can’t just take a pill to get rid of them and you have to douse yourself in a lotion it seems so hit and miss. What if you miss a bit?

I honestly have no idea where I got them (if I did have them) I don’t work with people, I work on my own so no contact with people. Doc seems to think it’s easy to catch but everywhere I Google it says you need close skin to skin contact so I’m clueless.

also, I think there is a pill! I was going to ask if my rash didn’t clear up but don’t know if it’s available on the NHS.

CountdownFast · 17/02/2024 20:48

I’d want both I think.

Scarletttulips · 17/02/2024 20:50

Lots of it around in university towns - people should isolate and wash everything and get everyone in the household treated.

stormonasummerseve · 17/02/2024 20:54

I remember when I was about 12 my sister (17) had a rash that everyone thought was scabies. My mum went wild boil washing everything in sight and we all had to douse ourselves in the lotion. I can still smell the lotion!

Turns out it was an allergic reaction to some dodgy tanning pills she had taken 🙈

🤣🤣🤣 I haven’t taken any tanning pills! I promise! 😂

unbearableitch · 17/02/2024 20:56

I work with children.
I treated my own children who had no symptoms just to be safe. And washed everything on a hot wash for two weeks like crazy.
My rash has completely gone now.

One of the reasons the doctors I saw were adamant it wasn't scabies for me was because I sleep alone...
