I had some results from some private investigations linked to my chest...

Today in a phone consultation - i was told / advised - not to use ' sure ' deodorant - and recommended a natural deodrant with no chemicals

They praised me on taking lotsa vit d daily

And liked that i wear fabric bras with no wiring...

My mum and many friends use deodrant with ' chemicals ' ..

Just wondering how common people using natural deodrant is

It's quite popular I think but beware as the ones with a high bicarb content can cause irritation and burns. I had this problem after a few weeks of using so gone back to Sanex

We do and have for almost forty years. There are lots of options out there to choose from. Sure is both a deodorant and anti-perspirant. The anti-perspirant is what requires chemicals that many are sensitive to. Natural deodorants do not have anti-perspirant so you will need an adjustment period. When you start with the natural deodorant, your body will sweat more than usual. You won’t smell bad, but you’ll be sweatier than usual. After a few months, this will settle down as your body gets used to there not being an anti-perspirant blocker and you won’t feel like you sweat more than you did using Sure.

I started using Wild deodorant last year, not for any particular health reason but because I think it’s environmentally better (cardboard packaging, fewer chemicals) and I found it gentler on my skin, the sprays sometimes irritated it. It’s not anti perspiring but it stops me smelling!

my mum started using a ‘deodorant stone’ in the 1990s following Brest cancer as she has read that the chemicals in deodorants might have caused it (I have no idea if this has since been proven or disproven before anyone panics or jumps on me for spreading false information!)

PaulCostinRIP · 29/01/2024 22:17

Common people might not use any anti perspirant or deodorant. 😬

PastTheGin · 29/01/2024 22:18

There is no conclusive link between deodorants and breast cancer. What exactly is supposed to be the problem with sure?

Fortunately, there are effective bicarbonate free deodorants available. These often use a bit of kaolin.

When I use deodorant, which is only on days that I will be sweating a lot (e.g. before I go to the gym) I use Bionsen or Pitrok - they're aluminium free but not sure they count as "natural"?

I did use Salt of the Earth for a while and didn't really notice a difference, it's just not as convenient to buy.

What did they say the risk was? A recentish radio 4 prog was very clear that deodorant is well tested and safe.

The risk is in the aluminium isn't it? That's why aluminium free ones have become more popular/widely available.

Conqueeftador · 29/01/2024 22:23

Who was it exactly giving this advice?

And have they suggested you come back and pay them for more thermal imaging in the future?

Dr Organic is usually a liquid roll on. You will need to let it dry on your skin before getting dressed. Don’t be afraid to try different brands.

I occasionally use one called fussy" or "picky" or something that I bought in Tesco. Unscented, seems to work quite well. Just a stick.

Basically - advice they gave me from the findings

It could actually be very helpful to me

Id never had my estrogen tested b4..
They are saying results lean towards estrogen dominance which fits in with some other health issues i have ...

Estrogen can be tested in primary care / on nhs so ive asked NHS to test it since private consultation today

Thermal imagery keeps an eye on breast changes etc

I went for it as i had some thickening on a boob but also as my ca125 is abnormal , & various other reasons

It’s not clear what these private tests were, or who did them. Are they a qualified health professional?

LuckyCharmz · 29/01/2024 22:34

Another vote for Wild deodorant, can get it in most supermarkets. No single use plastic with it either.
