I had a hydrosalapinx removed 11 years ago. The entire tube was hugely deepen and filled with fluid on that side and was removed.
I was in severe pain all around my right side and groin which got to the point where I was completely unable to think and generally very unable to do anything at all. There was one specific point which if pressed was the most sensitive part.
I had had PID 10 years before. It is worth buying it is possible to have PID WITHOUT an STI. Whilst STIs are the more prevalent infesting, many bacteria can case it. That was my case. I deceleration an answer l abscess which was drained. This later caused complications which caused the hydrosalapinx.
So yes it's terribly painful as you describe and mine just got worse unfortunately. The solution was tube removal. This did mean my child was conceived via ivf afterwards however but there is no way I could have continued to put up with the pain.

@Sara08 that’s how it is… you feel ok one day or one hour and then it’s back again!! Messes with your head. We will keep going and try to get to the bottom of all of this.

I’m learning to build in rest breaks after periods of being active. For eg I did my strength training this morning and now I’m feet up before work this afternoon (it’s a physical job… I’m a massage therapist) and luckily my kids are old enough to be able to cook the dinner etc because when I get home I’ll be back on the sofa for sure. Maybe big shop is too much for you too. Are you still on painkillers… what sort?

turnaroundtouchtheground · 27/02/2024 10:06

@CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk thanks for sharing your experience with us! I’m sorry you went through that but it is kind of comforting to know that the pain is as intolerable as I feel it is. The doctor initially thought I had PID from the insertion of a mirena coil which can apparently alter the ph in there and cause bacteria to grow.

can I ask… did you feel worse when standing and walking?

Sara08 · 27/02/2024 12:42

@turnaroundtouchtheground im on iboprofen which dont help as much.. i have naproxen but they give me acid reflux!!! My pain feels like its in my pubic bone on the sides tho.. my hip and my pelvis area.... where exacty is ur pains z

Pains are lower right abdo where the tube is, but also right on the pubic bone, round the right hip and down the lower back on the right.

I can't remember off-hand but it was large and problematic. I can see if I can dig out my surgery notes.
PID absolutley can be cause by infections other than STIs, many other bacteria can travel up from the vagina and endometriosis can also be a cause. What kind of doctor did you see, was it a consultant, a registrar, An f1 or f2( if you have a letter it will say).it is simply not good enough the information is factually incorrect. If you have categorically had constant screenings and are certain without doubt you have never had an STI they are wrong to assume this, you should certainly contact PALS in the hospital. I had not ever had an STI but had severe PID which is still causing problems to date some 24 years after my very first surgery and I'm scheduled for further surgery again next week.
In terms of the pain is hard to remember but it was a nagging constant aching, occasional sharp and stabbing all in my very low right hand andnexal area ( do just infringement or the right hip bone where you would get ovulation pain) but radiating up, down and especially across to the centre. I felt generally lethargic and unwell. There was one area of extreme tenderness which I could pinpoint to touch where it stemmed from. From what I re-emerge walking and ascribing worsened it, it was eschatology and arc made it worse. In not one hundred percent certain, it was a long time ago now but I think that was the case. I'll see if I can find the size.

Surgery to remove it will be an option if antibiotics don't work and it's severely impacting your quality of life which mine absolutley was. It was done by keyhole. It is major surgery, it does bring risks and complications and can cause internal scaring which brings its own issues which can lead to pain going forward which need considering so is a risk and reward consideration. You would also be losing one tube. This shouldn't affect fertility too much if your remaining tube is in good health. Definitely check what level of doctor you saw and complain to Pals you are not happy with the treatment you have been given. Ask to see someone else. If you are in severe pain go to a&e who might send you to the emergency gynae assessment unit for fast tracking, is like an emergency early pregnancy unit for non pregnant people!

turnaroundtouchtheground · 27/02/2024 17:38

@CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk mine is small apparently which is why they are in no hurry to do very much apart from wait 3 months and then rescan meanwhile I’m just not functioning and the pain is still there after the antibiotics. I don’t even know if there truly was an infection because none of my swabs or bloods were ever indicative of one. Sounds like surgery may also cause problems… they did say that. It’s very hard to get your head around this when you can’t see everything from the ultrasound and you know there may be other issues in there.

turnaroundtouchtheground · 27/02/2024 17:39

@Sara08 definitely try and see emergency gynae if you are not managing the pain. I had to do that several times. Pretty sure they started saving me a seat 🙄

Sara08 · 27/02/2024 18:05

@CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk if u can tell ek the size of yours pls ut would be nice it would bring me piece ... the doctors say it doesn't cause pain but the endo specialist is a consultant gynaecologist who specialises on endometriosis and pelvoc pain.. he said to try thr merena coil and if not I'm waiting for a scan in the post while the coil is in as well.. he did listen to me and said because of my past history he doesn't want operate as I'm hemoeage high risk and I have had 2 neonatal deaths .. so now in jus awaiting thr scan appointment .. my hydro is a dull ache on my adnexa area and he said it was 5 cm when I had my scan last week... but he didn't comment much on it maybe they want see if it will self resolve as some do.... the last 3 days have been good and now I'm back to pain again it's not severe its a mild ache

Just looked. Mine was 3.3 cm and strongly adhered to my right ovary and bowel. The adhesions alone are known to be painful. Is yours an NHS consultant and where are you based?
Mine was deemed to need urgent removal at that size.

Sara08 · 27/02/2024 20:22

Mine is 5 cm!!!! And they ain't Concerned at all.. I'm really worried now 😕 but I dunno if I have adhesions ....

From NICE guidelines.

Surely a decent surgeon should be able to manage haemostasis for a minimal access laproscopic/ key hole procedure?
Is the terrible loss of your babies related to prem births possibly from issues with your insidwas from scaring due to this user l issues in wondering ( I don't want to upset you- sorry, it just made me think). If the doctor is concerned about doing this himself perhaps you can ask to be referred to a tertiary hospital ( extra specialist hospital) eg UCLH in London has a special women's hospital attached with leading experts. Rhian London hospitals will send there. Worth considering.

CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk · 27/02/2024 20:27

It would only be the one tube removed.

I'd ask for a second opinion to be honest.

Sara08 · 27/02/2024 20:32

Well I have 3 boys who are happy and healthy and no my baby's dies due to negligence... 2021 and 2022 I lost 2 girls full term... he jus said he's sure it's endometriosis and my ultrasound is only showing hyrosal9imx and wants to do a scan in 6 months and see how I get on with the coil... but I left he's secretary voicemail as I want be seen sooner ... I'm having a tube removal as my family is complete I aim got it in me to have another child ..... its 5 cm and he's not fussed and sais thats not causing pain

@CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk the specialist qas my second opinion the gynae sent me to
Him and he said all the Info I stated earlier

OP posts:
CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk · 29/02/2024 14:16

By second opinion i meant request to see a different specialist/ consultant. I'm not sure if that was clear or not. Doctors do not alwats have the same opinion as each other or preferred approach so if you are finding one who is saying something which seems so off ilon many counts then you can ask for a different doctor to review you. You can ask for a full explanation of why NICE recommend tube removal but this doctor is not happy to offer that to you. Generally they follow nice guidance unless there is during indication it would be problematic/ dangerous to do so in a specific case.

Sara08 · 29/02/2024 17:36

Okay I will get on to that now
