Update on DH post seeing consultant

Blandmum · 18/03/2008 15:48

Well, we went to see dh's consultant today.

She is happy that his breathing is now good enough that he doesn't need a pleural drain.

She (and the Macmillan nurse who I also spoke to this morning) thinks that the lack of energy/appetite/nausea is at least in part to him stopping his steroids, so he is back on them. (which is what we wanted)

He has a few weeks 'holiday' from the chemo, and she is booking an abdominal CT scan to assess how helpful this treatment has been (which we wanted).

This way he should get to Centreparcs without the added burden of the chemo side effects.

and then we will look at more therapy when we get back

Sounds pretty good, MB - do like the sound of Centreparcs without chemo effects, imagine you and Mr MB, and the miniMBs, do, too.

Steroids are amazing drugs, hope they help fast

moondog · 18/03/2008 16:01

Happy Hols

Lots of Mini goals Monndog, is in part, the key to dh's 'sucess' re the cancer. It helps us all to have something nive to focus on as a family.

We can't look at the big picture too often, as it is too horrible

Sounds like a brilliant idea MB.
Have you done CP before?
Sometimes I think it sounds like heaven (no cars) other times like hell (a million screaming kids under a plastic dome).

Will check for feedback.

Blandmum · 18/03/2008 16:11

last time we went was 5 years ago.

We are going there because dh isn't well enough for the trip to Holland that we usually do during the easter holidays.

The shocker is the cost! A weekend in CP is more expensive than a week in Holland (duinrell) which includes the cost of the tunnel!

And then at CP you have the addedd cost of all the extras.

But it should be fun and we are meting up with some very close friends, which will be fun and give us all a bit of a break.

Kids have all sorts of activities booked, and the Mums are going to the Spa one night!

Fab. Your DH is a miracle of modern science and positive thinking

Enjoy centreparcs

moondog · 18/03/2008 16:12

Oooh lovely
Yes,holidaying in the UK eh?
Costs a bloody packet.

Blandmum · 18/03/2008 16:17

You are not joking!

And we'd spent a few years camping, so holidays for us , while fab, were on the cheap side!

Still I'm building up an impressive portfolio of self catering places that we may well go back to in the years to come!

The tip up to Scarebrough/Whitby was fantastic.

'Having' to holiday in the UK (because of the health implications of going abreoad) has show us just how fantastic the UK is as a holiday destination. Just costly!

glad things went ok and glad that the steroids have been increased, how much is he on now?
i am like you in thinking sod the long term effects of steroids lets think about the here and now.
great that you are going away and that DH gets a break from chemo too.
have a lovely time away.

Blandmum · 19/03/2008 20:35

he is only on 2mg a day, so it isn't tha high a dose anyway.

back on the steroids he aite his first full dinner in 3 weeks, in one sitting. and then had a toasted teacake and grapes for 'afters'

Just 2 days back in , he is already improved
