Wtf is this rash? (Pic included)

This rash has appeared on my back.its below my bra line. Its itchy. It's dry and red. It's appeared in the last two weeks. Over that time I've tried 1% hydrocortisone, canesten and Soolantra. I have a nickel allergy but have never had problems with bras before.

It feels like contact dermatitis, I have changed my washing liquid to Aldi, but if it was washing liquid, surely it would be everywhere on my body?

I have worn some shapewear recently which I've worn before, it's exactly at the level of the back of the shapewear.

Pharmacist suggested fungal after three days of hydrocortisone. It's itchier than ever, I've stopped wearing the shapewear, I wear a clean bra everyday. I also swim daily, I sometimes don't shower immediately after swimming because the showers are crowded, so the chlorinated water could be on my back for an hour or so.

Getting an appointment at the dr is two weeks wait I'm getting desperate, it itches and I want to pick at it.

I have already posted in allergies but no response hence posting on here.

I'll try for a drs appointment but it's new year now so no chance for at least a few days.

Does the shapewear have one of those slightly tacky rubbery strips at that level? My skin reacts to those, I assume it’s a bit latexy or similar. How long since you stopped wearing the shapewear?

vipersnest1 · 31/12/2023 23:56

Try Daktacort, OP. It has a steroid as well as an antifungal medication.

Mxflamingnoravera · 01/01/2024 00:10

@CormorantStrikesBack yes it does. I tried no bra for a few days I'm two days without the shapewear. I'm going with your idea it's the rubbery, elastic stuff.

@vipersnest1 I'll get dactacort tomorrow thanks. 🙏

Not necessarily. It certainly looks like contact dermatitis. I get different reactions on different parts of my body. Some areas barely react at all. The worst reactions are always where the allergen has been pressed against my skin. Which rather suggests to me that you are sensitive to the Aldi detergent and the shapewear has made it flare up. Personally, I would try one of my prescription cortisone creams or ointments.

But IANAHCP. Just a person with contact dermatitis.

Is it worth testing t tree oil for a day

GoingDownLikeBHS · 01/01/2024 00:39

Search Notalgia Paresthetica - I have it (quite mild case) - ring any bells?

Kathy34 · 01/01/2024 01:14

That looks like my contact dermatitis rash!! My doc said hydrocortisone cream and keep it uncovered and moistured

Mxflamingnoravera · 01/01/2024 01:53

@GoingDownLikeBHS yes. And it fits with my back problems (three herniated discs-two lumbar one cervical) . However, it also fits contact dermitits and a change of washing liquid and softener plus wearing shapewear with Lycra/elastane type fibres.

So, tonight I made a mix of hydrocortisone cream with dactacort and canesten. I know that's a bit ott but I rubbed it in and tomorrow I shall go braless and shapewearless! And try this for three days. If still no better I'll try to see a doctor! .

Thanks everyone for the advice. It's all stored away and I'll make sure that if it gets to dr phase, I mention all the suggestions.

I'm truly grateful. It could also be stress, but I doubt it. My mum is very ill in a home with possible pneumonia and already has dementia. But this happened before mums chest got bad.

Happy flakey new year to all fellow skin sufferers.

I get something very similar occasionally. A couple of days of antihistamine cream (antihisan) along with a one a day non drowsy antihistamine usually deals with it.

determinedtomakethiswork · 01/01/2024 10:34

I've no idea about the rash, but just wanted to say what a fantastic, small waist you have!

Mxflamingnoravera · 01/01/2024 10:53

Why thank you @Dilbertian!

I'm not disagreeing, but I think you've @'d the wrong person 😆

Rosscameasdoody · 01/01/2024 10:56

That looks like contact dermatitis. The rash sits where your bra strap fastens. Is there a latex layer or similar on that part of the bra ? If so you may have a low level latex allergy.

pam290358 · 01/01/2024 11:03

I’m another one suggesting contact dermatitis if the shape wear has elastane in it. It doesn’t fit a latex allergy because that’s more hives than a rash, but the rash seems to appear where the bra strap presses against the skin - there’s even a little gap between the two patches of rash which fits where it fastens.

Baircasolly · 01/01/2024 11:08

Just wanted to add, if it's weepy/angry looking, you might want to consider that it could be infected, and it won't clear up until the infection is gone. Pharmacist might be able to give you something like fucidin OTC?

Seeline · 01/01/2024 11:15

Have you tried oral antihistamines?

jalopy · 01/01/2024 11:28

Shingles?

CormorantStrikesBack · 01/01/2024 11:41

It doesn’t look like shingles. Plus it crosses the midline which is unusual with shingles.

Rosscameasdoody · 01/01/2024 14:36

jalopy · 01/01/2024 11:28

Shingles?

Shingles is usually on one side of the body only, and is more like clusters of hives (raised bumps) rather than a flat rash. It’s usually very painful too.

Mxflamingnoravera · 01/01/2024 19:25

Could it be scabies? I bought a sweater on vinted and wore it without washing first?

OP posts:
Mxflamingnoravera · 02/01/2024 07:43

I now have a herpes outbreak as well that has just come on so I am now wondering if it could be shingles. I had no idea shingles was so serious. But as the pp pointed out it is on both sides of the midline.

I've been remiss taking my valocyclovir recently which explains my herpes outbreak. I'm due at work in an hour, bug now wondering if I should see the doctor?

I'll call 111.

OP posts:
Mxflamingnoravera · 02/01/2024 08:49

Ive just called 111, I need to see a Dr. So instead of heading to work I am waiting for appt at Dr. Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I'll report back in case anyone gets anything similar.
