Ds is struggling to breath

But its not a wheeze from his chest its more a whistle sound from his throat.

Really not sure if I should be worried

He's been off it all day and as the day went on his voice has dissapeared.

if he's struggling to breathe (rather than just breathing nosily) call an ambulance

foxinsocks · 15/03/2008 21:47

there's lots of croup about - if he's struggling to breathe, call an ambulance. If you think he's OK but still are worried, pop down to the out of hours or A&E.

soapbox · 15/03/2008 21:48

What are you posting on here for then - FGS - phone a flipping ambulance

chequebookjerry · 15/03/2008 21:49

into the bathroom and lots of steam and cuddles, if that doesnt help go find someone medical.

dilbertina · 15/03/2008 21:50

call an ambulance. His throat may be so swollen it is starting to block the airway. Do it now - please!

WallOfSilence · 15/03/2008 21:50

I agree with soapbox.

And I guess I would be worried if my child was 'struggling to breathe'.

StealthPolarBear · 15/03/2008 21:51

hopefully that is what she is doing

aah ali is an old pro at sickness and spends a fair amount of time at the hosp with her ds (if I've got that right...). I think she's used to him having chest problems so was probably weighing up what could be up as it wasn't his chest as ususal iyswim

alibobins · 15/03/2008 21:54

He's not struggling to the point I would phone an ambulance he's pink and not tugging

he's got asthma so i'm used to dealing with that and have had many rides in an ambulance but was unsure what the whistling noise is.

I'm going to phone nhs see what they say

Hope they are able to help

MegBusset · 15/03/2008 21:55

Could be bronchiolitis? DS had it in November, needed to go to A&E for monitoring and stayed in for three nights.

strange thread heading then

LaDiDaDi · 15/03/2008 21:57

I think the noise is stridor. Noisy breathing caused by narrowing of the upper airways rather than narrowing of the lower airways which cause wheeze.

Typically caused by viral infection/inflammation when it's termed croup but can have other causes. an be minor or very serious, watch out fror the same signs of resp distress that you see when his asthma is bad.

foxinsocks · 15/03/2008 21:57

it may well be croup ali. My asthmatic one has gone down with that. There are a lot of throaty/chesty bugs doing the rounds.

I would get him seen though, I'm sorry to say. Because I think anything in the throat area is a pain with an asthmatic because if their chest goes too, you're in trouble iyswim.

shelleylou · 15/03/2008 22:01

get him to out of hours doctors it sounds like a chest infection and if it is they should be able to give you anti biotics there and then. Sooner its caught the better.

alibobins · 15/03/2008 22:02

Nhs put me straight through to nurse who was really good and listened to him on the phone and thinks its best if we go to a&e.
