FIT result 43 - should I be worried?

JoyeuxNarwhal · 16/12/2023 12:50

Had some rectal bleeding, plus always tired. Menopausal. No weight loss. Been more constipated since having a Mirena fitted but generally go at least every other day. Lots of green veg/chia seeds/linseeds etc.

Had blood tests which were satisfactory/normal range. Was expecting to be told fit was negative however apparently not.

Been referred on the 2 week pathway (although GP says currently more like 4-6 week minimum).

There's no obvious lumps and bumps outside so I'm guessing (hoping) it's internal piles?

Any help/experience/advice gratefully received.

I’m sorry you have been given this information just before Christmas and along with the strike it’s not the best time but hopefully you will get a quick appointment.

I was told a few weeks ago that my fit test was over 400. They got me in within 5 days for colonoscopy but it failed as it was too painful and they said inflamed and they said they would end the procedure and I would have to have it done by a different method. I’ve been waiting since 6th november for a new procedure. The hospital called Monday teatime to book me in and it was going to be in January. I told her what I was having it done and that I had a fit test of over 400. She mentioned that they don’t often do it via pill colonoscopy hence it would be a while. Then the lovely woman said that maybe I could get it earlier and can I come anytime to collect prep after new year. I told her I can get there anytime as I live across the road. Then I heard her talking to someone and said can you come in for the test at 7.30am Wednesday for the start of it but I need to collect prep by 12pm Tuesday to start at 2pm -hence why I’m up now
then return Thursday to finish the test and leave the equipment

I could have cried at how helpful she was and the idea of finally having answers and treatment. As I have lost 2.5st since oct- i can’t eat or drink properly due to the pain and suffering

so by thursday it will finally have a conclusion

Gosh what a thing to go through @Biscuitmonster2318 Flowers Really glad they were helpful and understanding, hope you get a good result x

Always look for the silver lining @Biscuitmonster2318 Xmas Grin and lol @ Inner space!

Are you allowed to eat again when you've swallowed it or are you still on liquids only until it, um, reappears?

Wow
Never had one of those b4

Interesting

3rd colonoscopy in 8 ish months in Jan tho

worldwidetravel2017 · 20/12/2023 14:25

Whats the camera thing like

Like ive had moviprep b4
And the p one

But the lil camera thing...

They told me im having cap next time

Something about a camera to see round corners

  • is that , that ?
worldwidetravel2017 · 20/12/2023 14:31

JoyeuxNarwhal · 20/12/2023 12:26

Yep. Nothing there apparently. Told I have a spot near my anus (definitely not a haemorrhoid apparently) which may have been cause of a fresh bleed but apparently fit doesn't/shouldn't pick up fresh blood and there was no visible blood on the sample.

Is your feretin ok since all this ?

My body doesnt normally abrorb iron from tablets

today theyve prescribed iron tablets - an experiment (!) - wil get feretin rested in 3 weeks

Also had migrane tablets prescribed
And ive got to do a migrane diary

Biscuitmonster2318 · 20/12/2023 15:04

I was prescribed iron tablets but they mess the results of tests. So I have waited for all the tests first.

the camera pill was strange but not too bad. I have horrendous pain just drinking, and thought it was going to be really bad. But apart from certain points which were uncomfortable it was much better than anything else.

The only downside is that they can’t take biopsies as you usually get with the procedure. So I would have to have them done if they find anything. But as they are unsure of what and where I’m having trouble, along with it being too painful and high risk of perforating it is a good option.

The camera records and transmits to a video recorder attached around your waist. This means that when they analyse it, it has pictures from the moment you swallow to the moment it hits the toilet.

worldwidetravel2017 · 20/12/2023 15:06

Sounds helpful / interesting

Have they offered 2 do a gastroscopy to check your stomach?

Biscuitmonster2318 · 20/12/2023 15:09

I couldn’t manage the gastroscopy this time
this camera is brilliant as it takes a images from the moment you swallow until it hits the toilet.

so the consultant has images of my whole digestive system.

Biscuitmonster2318 · 20/12/2023 15:11

Though the moviprep and two boosters are brutal.

I have finished the test now and literally feel I’m going to have an accident and stopped at 5 toilets walking the length of the hospital 😂😂

Rosienose · 20/12/2023 15:22

Are they able to give you information regarding what they have seen from the test today or will you have to wait? Hope you have answers as soon as possible.

My FIT test result was 78 ug. Symptoms have been visible blood on stool (bright red) and mucus. Lower back ache which I think is linked. I have lost weight too but was dieting just as all this started so not sure if it’s due to that or if I have lots extra because of this.

JoyeuxNarwhal · 21/12/2023 13:43

How are you doing today @Biscuitmonster2318 ? Flowers

Muffins28 · 22/12/2023 00:13

A positive FIT test means there is blood within your stool sample that you sent off, it doesn't tell you what is causing that, hence the colonoscopy to ensure it's not something sinister like cancer.

Other causes (Which are much more common) are piles and anal fissures, sometimes you can also have blood in your poo due to inflammation/infection in the bowel.

Try not to worry, you are going for the right test to rule out the more serious sinister caused as that's the safest thing to do.

worldwidetravel2017 · 22/12/2023 09:12

Bowel polyps are common and are sometimes the reason for bleeding

Rosienose · 22/12/2023 17:35

Thanks. I have a CT scan booked for first this Xmas eve and the colonoscopy booked for the 4th Jan. So good to have some dates.

JoyeuxNarwhal · 02/01/2024 20:19

Thanks all for your advice on here. Had the colonoscopy today. Haemorrhoids apparently, 2 sizable, one small. Quite high up. No other abnormalities. Discharged from cancer pathway 🥳 Consultant happy to see me in clinic if they bother me/bleeding continues.

@worldwidetravel2017 I said to dh on my way home that that's it now - I've seen nephrology (ultrasound), urology (CT and cystoscopy), and gynae (TV and abdo ultrasound, hysteroscopy and polyp removal) over the last 13 months so all of my insides have been seen!
