Constantly thick mucous stuck at back of my throat

Just this.
Apologies for too much yucky information bellow.

I had some horrible cold or something similar a few weeks ago.
I had horrible sinusitis with my nose nonstop running/ sneezing for about 10 long days.
I also took Antibiotics.
Since last week it seems the inside my throat ( the back part leading from my nose) there is lots of crusty mucous, absolutely impossible to get it it.
Literally last week this thick mucous lump sort of dislodged into my throat causing me gagging and vomiting as it was impossible to get it out, in the end it came out but new one still forming daily.
I don’t know to do!
It’s just terrible and I can feel it above in my throat but it won’t come out.
I tried inhaling, hot drinks, hot baths, catarrh medicine anything…
please advice

Following I'm the same. Mine feels like rice stuck in my throat it's so horrible

millymae · 08/12/2023 21:32

You don’t say that you’ve tried gargling. If you haven’t give it a go if you can as sometimes when you spit out the water the gunk comes with it.
Warm, not hot water works a treat for me and the longer you can keep the gargle going the more chance you have of it dislodging what’s causing the problem

CornishPorsche · 08/12/2023 21:38

Have a look at a saline sinus rinse. I do one each night before bed. Occasionally one in the morning if I'm choked up.

NeilMed is the main brand, comes with the saline mix sachet, use only booklet cooled water.

Makes a huge difference.

sandgrown · 08/12/2023 21:39

I was told that pineapple thins the mucus . Not tried it though

Fifiellz · 08/12/2023 21:41

I've got this as well at the moment following a cold. It's vile.

Whataretheodds · 08/12/2023 21:46

Saline sinus spray
Lots and lots of fluid to help break it down
Brush your tongue when you brush your teeth - it will probably make you gag and make it easier to hack up.
Avoid dairy if you can for a bit, it's mucus-forming

Justwingingit2005 · 08/12/2023 21:47

Same, following some cold cough thingy.
Have to keep clearing my throat.
Feels like reflux without the heartburn tbh

whocaresmore · 08/12/2023 21:48

Ask GP for a steroid nasal spray. Should clear it up within days

Decembernights · 08/12/2023 22:28

I do have steroid nasal spray as I have lots of allergies.
It makes no difference sadly.
I didn’t try gargle as I was thinking it wouldn’t touch the mucous as the gargling would be just in my mouth but the mucous it’s somewhere between my back of my nose and behind the tonsils, like above of them -I can’t see it but it’s there,

Also I try constantly to bring it out like a man would do ( think of Jack on Titanic!)
This makes no difference though it’s there.
Its maddness.
Just did the whole circle of inhaling if hot water with wicks, hot herbal teas and nothing..

I'm following as I wake up every morning with sticky mucous in the back of my throat. The difference is that I know I've had chronic sinusitis in the past - I had an MRI which showed thickened lining of my left sinus. (I was told I'd had it for at least ten years.)
It's now flaring up and I think I'm in the path to glue ear and grommets again...

Decembernights · 08/12/2023 22:38

@Whataretheodds i was looking into it the other day..

I get this after every cold. I just know that it will pass. Avoid dairy. Drink water. I steam as well with menthol crystals.

Decembernights · 08/12/2023 22:39

I also have blocked ear, it’s definitely all connected.

OP posts:
Whataretheodds · 08/12/2023 22:39

Have you tried steaming (inhaling steam over a bowl?) Or go for a sauna?

Decembernights · 08/12/2023 22:41

@Whataretheodds yes steaming over bowl with hot water with wicks or tea trea oil.
Also hot feet bath, steroid nasal spray.
catarrh covonia remedy.

Post
Nasal drip?

HeathrowQuestion · 08/12/2023 22:42

I also get this after every cold or respiratory virus like Covid or flu.

It’s much worse in the winter when there are a few mould spores around. I also have environmental allergies.

One thing to try is drinking loads of fluids, which apparently helps to thin secretions.

Decembernights · 08/12/2023 22:43

@Fifiellz its truly horrible.
I’m literally just walking around and making funny ,, bringing mucous out,, noises like an old bloke..

Decembernights · 08/12/2023 22:47

@HeathrowQuestion yep. I’m allergic to all of these, mould like aspergilus, pollen, dust mites.. name it all.
i usually suffer from lots of mucous in my lungs ( another story) due to allergies but I never had this so bad with my nose/ back of my throat..

Daft but fun suggestion. I had this problem for weeks, then watched back to back stand up comedy routines (not for that reason but because I had very low mood, post Covid and was trying to get out of it!) I laughed so much it cleared my throat!

AzureBlue99 · 09/12/2023 00:31

Love that @WinterParakeets

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 09/12/2023 00:39

One of those snot sucker things that are used on babies? Like a long plastic tube with a pump.
My friend had one for her DS - an amazing invention. He was constantly full of mucus until she used this device.

schmuzz · 09/12/2023 04:16

I have this too now, but for the last 6 months and I'm coughing it all the time. Regular steroid spray hasn't helped but I have heard another spray called Dymista is supposed to be much more effective.

kitchenhelprequired · 09/12/2023 08:31

No dairy, no coffee, no orange juice. Eat & drink things which are closest to your bodies natural ph and closest to natural temperature. Take a couple of spoons of good quality apple cider vinegar a couple of times a day. That will help limit the amount of mucus produced and try and cut through what is there. 6 week long covid like illness but years before covid and that's how we got better. There are some mucus expectorants that have helped but haven't found the one we've tried (Mucusolven) in the UK.
