Lots of blood in the pan

RudsyFarmer · 02/12/2023 11:22

Last few days there has been so much blood in the pan. Mostly when I pass a stool, but also when I have used the toilet for just a wee.

I have a memory of it happening before but not so much. Google tells me it’s piles. How much blood is too much blood and I assume this is doing me no good iron wise?

You need a GPappointment for yet to be run. This could be anything from piles to something serious. Get checked out

FadedRed · 02/12/2023 11:28

What pp said. Urgent GP appointment and referral for investigations. Don’t delay, it’s most likely has a simple explanation but if it’s something serious, the sooner you get a diagnosis and treatment, the better the outcome.

RudsyFarmer · 02/12/2023 11:28

It was bright red and now much darker. So I’m sure it’s just piles. Pretty common apparently.

It’s not normal to bleed rectally, and it sounds like this isn’t just when you do a poo.

a tiny bit of blood can look like a lot when mixed with water, my child had a fissure which put a lot of blood in the pan but the fissure was clearly visible and the amount of blood reduced over the next few days as it healed.

if you have no symptoms other than blood, you definitely need a diagnosis. Piles are usually painful / itchy and a fissure can be painful too.

darker blood isn’t necessarily a good thing.

RudsyFarmer · 02/12/2023 14:06

Ah a fissure sounds more like it. I need to go see what one of those looks like 🥴🤦🏻‍♀️

Definitely get checked out. Dark blood is something i'd want investigated. Especially from the bowel.

LucyInTheParkWithDragons · 02/12/2023 14:33

What people are telling you is that it could be a fissure or piles, it could also be bowel or rectal cancer. You need to be checked, not look things up.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 02/12/2023 14:45

You need to talk to a Gp, this could be bowel cancer.

SpottyCrumpet · 02/12/2023 15:07

Yes - the point of my post was to say to see a GP who can properly diagnose you.

Mine is pikes but I didn't guess, I went to see a female GP. Plus mine is always scarlet and very rarely is there enough to be in the pan.

RudsyFarmer · 02/12/2023 15:20

I’m going to have a look and see if it disappears.

I have piles sometimes and the odd occasion I have a bit of bleeding on the tissue it has been bright red, and the stool has been hard and painful to pass, and I feel sore externally afterwards. Nothing like your symptoms.

Stop being a damned ostrich and ignoring it and get yourself to a GP ASAP.

RudsyFarmer · 02/12/2023 15:29

I’ve had a look and can see nothing. So must be inside. I’m not being an ostrich, like I said it’s happened before (long time ago) and went away. I am constipated so it makes sense that hard stools have caused a problem. My diet does not have enough vegetables and fibre in it and i need to sort that.

OP posts:
MirrorMirror1247 · 02/12/2023 15:33

Please go and get checked out. By all means add more vegetables to your diet, but don't take a "wait and see" approach. I used to work for bowel screening and we would always encourage anyone with symptoms like this to see a doctor ASAP. If it turns out to be something minor, that's fine, but it's really not worth the risk. Look up Dame Deborah James.

UngratefulOldCabbage · 02/12/2023 15:38

Please go and get checked by the GP. I had the same with no other symptoms. I was seen that day and checked by the nurse who couldn't feel any piles which would cause that amount of blood. I was in the hospital having a colonoscopy within 2 weeks. They found multiple polyps which they removed and signs of something in the bowel which could be the cause of the bleeding. I will now have another colonoscopy in 5 years to make sure no other polyps have grown. So reassuring to know nothing is seriously wrong but the reason they do the urgent referral is because it could be.

Mindymomo · 02/12/2023 15:45

I would get checked out by GP. My piles usually I pass bright red blood, with darker blood it’s probably something that needs looking at, as it could be anything, chrons, diverticulitis, colitis, you will probably be put on an urgent 2 week investigation to get you seen, whilst it is worrying, it’s the only way to get seen quickly.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 02/12/2023 16:04

If you're constipated, please do mention this as well. If you are thinking of adding more vegetables, is there something that you particularly enjoy?

Are you able to add in and extra drink if two a day as well?

clarepetal · 02/12/2023 16:06

I've had piles with bright red blood that filled the pan, and it was so scary. I also had to wear period pants as I would randomly bleed through my clothes, weirdly when I was stressed.
I had a camera up my bum a few weeks ago, and it was just piles. They banded them there and then and have not bled since. Have also suffered constipation for years. Am increasing my water intake, and this seems to help. Fingers crossed, this is just the same.

ChoupetteTheCat · 02/12/2023 16:11

I think that you should get yourself checked out by a professional.

RudsyFarmer · 02/12/2023 16:19

I’m honestly not at all worried. I don’t fit any of the other criteria for it to be something more sinister. I’ll see if it settles and go from there.

OP posts:
NeurodivergentBurnout · 02/12/2023 16:25

You really need this investigating. I worked in Endoscopy. Even once warrants an investigation. Yes the majority of people get told it’s piles but it could be a polyp, IBD or cancer. You cannot tell. I had one patient who saw blood once and it was a polyp. Early assessment and diagnosis is key. Please see your GP.

Just wondered if you'd read This from the NHS on rectal bleeding?

lesdeluges · 02/12/2023 16:31

Since you have self diagnosed (that this is nothing and watch and wait), there was no need for a post on it really was there?

You have a bit of a cavalier attitude to this issue that COULD be simply piles or a fissure, but could be something else that needs diagnosis and treatment. But you seem to be fine with letting things jog along.

Hope it's nothing serious BTW and that it goes away very soon. If it doesn't, well you know what you should do.

DingDongMerrilyWithPie · 02/12/2023 16:35

Go get checked OP. Don't watch and wait. Bleeding needs a diagnosis.

Slitheringheights · 02/12/2023 16:39

Sorry to but in, don’t assume anything. Get yourself checked. Bleeding is a sign of something sinister. I don’t want to scare you. I had colon cancer but the tumour had blocked my bowel. I never had bleeding but many people do. My symptoms were sickness, constipation, couldn’t pass wind. Also my sister has ulcerated colitis, she often bleeds.
