Health anxiety...panic

So evidently I have health anxiety, just wondering how many other people on here have it and what they do calm down? I tried citalopram but the sickness was a big trigger for me even when I took it at night so stopped. I've had a cough for about a month and chest x ray was normal on Thursday but I've just woke up absolutely sweating and feeling like I'm going to vomit so it's sent me in a bit of a panic, automatically did my temperature which was 37.5 and showing orange😫😫 heart rate was 95bpm and I'm panicking now that I have some sort of infection, As I type this I feel like I'm going to be sick. My whole body feels hot so I put the fan on and now my temperature says it is 37.1 and my rational brain is telling me this is normal but the other half is saying no, you are going to get sick as your normal temp is usually 36.4-36.9 😭😭😭 I'm freaking out about sepsis as I've been sick for so long now

Who with? You need someone with expertise in trauma who can deliver a therapy suitable for trauma.

Some therapies (eg counselling) can make trauma worse by inadvertently reinforcing it, so it's really important you see the right person for the right intervention.

The people providing basic CBT through IAPT usually don't have any qualifications, experience or training in trauma. At least they recognised they weren't the right fit for your needs, but it's a shame they didn't do enough to refer you to the right service.

If you have this cold that's going around, it's causing a variety of symptoms for lots of people.

There's an ongoing thread about it where lots of us are getting a whole bunch of symptoms. Quite a few people have been sick for at least a month with it. I've been poorly for weeks myself. It is just a virus but I understand it can be hard not to panic.

I do think you have a kind of CPTSD from the other things you've said. I've got it for different reasons and it's very traumatic. I've spent many sleepless nights unable to get my brain to calm down.

I've not had any counselling because I'm terrified of counselling (thanks, brain!!). But I've got somewhere towards feeling normal again over the last couple of years by using the technique of allowing myself a short time to go over it in my head and then telling myself that's enough now and forcing myself to concentrate on something else. I find putting quite loud ambient noise helps on my portable speaker. I either do a brown noise from an app or rain sounds from YouTube. That's why I mentioned trying to put something on your phone to concentrate on something else instead.

This 'brutal' cold ... | Mumsnet

Has anyone else had it...? My timeline has been.. 3 days of awful ear ache (zero sleep due to pain) Day 4 nose started dripping like a tap Day 5 dry...

Simply talking about your traumatic past can do more harm than good and isn't recommended - trauma interventions are much more targeted and skilful than just reliving your trauma with someone.

Which is why counselling is not approved for trauma, it tends to just embed it further. What you need is an approach that will help get it unstuck. There are several types of trauma therapy with good evidence bases.

I haven't read the whole thread but you need to know that your temperature fluctuates every day whether you are unwell or not. This is why when you are actually unwell you tend to feel OK in the morning but progressively worse from late afternoon up until when your temperature naturally peaks at 11pm to midnight. So stop taking it constantly as you really aren't helping yourself.

I get it probably fuels the anxiety further, I just like the reassurance but admittedly it doesn't help for long as I do it again

I'm not sure what kind of counselling they have referred me too, they had a range of different types, they did a phone assessment and said that they will put me on a waiting list but I should expect to be waiting for a while as I'm limited to times I can do

I have heard many are sick currently! It's so frustrating because rationally I know it's a bug but my mind won't let me believe it, I'm such a baby when it comes to getting sick too! & I've just researched CPTSD, sounds similar!!
