Neilmed sinus rinse kit this is what I use, I’ve had a rotten cold and sinusitis, and it does help to clear sinuses. Not the most pleasant thing to use, but pretty effective.

My yoga teacher recommended a Nose Buddy - you can get them on Amazon for about £18 - it’s got a long spout with a bit on the end that fits up your nose

She uses one every day and swears by it

bizzey · 16/11/2023 17:14

Thank you both.
I will look them up.
I just didn't know where to start !

Sterimar aerosol one is best for kids imo

bizzey · 17/11/2023 18:47

@platinumplus thank you .
He is technically an adult (19) but with SEN so I really need the easiest !

The other one .mentioned above said you cannot use tap water ..

Are they all the same ?

I need to get bottled water to use them ?

No you use cooled, boiled water.
The Neilmed one is brilliant, there is a trick to it, you keep the bottle upright & head tilted forward.

I use an Omron nebuliser with saline.

I have this Neti Pot GLAMZA 300ml Sinus Rinse Bottle - Includes x1 Adult Nasal Rinse & x1 Child Nasal Wash Attachment for Complete Nasal Irrigation (300ml) : Amazon.co.uk: Baby Products

Looks dreadful, but can help clear the sinus and at the very least make it feel refreshed. You should never warmed use tap water in them! More so in the USA, but cases of flukes getting into the brain have been reported! 😮
Boiled tap water using the salt sachets it comes with are fine though, or bottled water and the salt sachets.
The water should be body temperature. Keep the face forward, and remind him to breath through his mouth, and he isn't going to choke. If he tips his head back- he might taste the salty water, or feel it do down his throat- but no major harm if this happens.. Keep the head tipped forward and its fine. After time, he will know how far he was tip his head slightly side to side and even further forward- to clear even more of the sinuses.
Sometimes, blowing the nose afterwards clears more so than the when the water is coming out.

OP I have SEN and the one I linked is really easy to use. Simply fill it up, put the mask on, switch it on and breath normally for 10 minutes.

Yes it's fine to use for adults too. Sterimar definitely easiest as the saline solution is in the bottle so you literally just press a button.

The other ones you need to use cooled boiled water which is a bit of a faff, but the are much more "forceful" and consequently better at cleaning things out. Might be a nightmare if he has sensory issues though?

LeakyPipes · 18/11/2023 22:15

Can anyone tell me how these are used? Would I need to inhale liquid up my nose? 😮 I have intermittent life-long sinusitis and would love to find a way to ease it, but I can't imagine inhaling liquid...

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 18/11/2023 22:20

Load of nonsense PPS saying you have to use cool boiled water.

No you don't.

We use them all the time when we have colds or sinus problems
We use cosy water from the tap with a couple of teaspoons of salt. Works a treat!

Obviously you don't inhale it. You just breathe through your mouth whilst you do it.

LeakyPipes · 18/11/2023 22:38

Thanks, that’s a relief. I’m not sure it’s obvious, though, as there are references in the thread to ‘rinse’ and ‘irrigation’. Maybe I’ll give one a try.

What the heck is cosy water??? 🤔

LeakyPipes · 18/11/2023 22:46

Do give it a try - they are game changers for anyone with sinus issues.

LeakyPipes · 19/11/2023 06:52

Thanks, ShippingNews. I will, then. I’m actually sitting here feeling sorry for myself with a pounding head caused by the current attack of sinusitis 😢

MissJSmith · 19/11/2023 07:22

I use the Neil Med one. Nuke boiled, cooled water for 20 seconds in the microwave and then add a sachet of the salt mixture.
One squirt up each nostril and a good blow of the nose afterwards, it’s fantastic!

That's not a real nasal rinse though. You need the water coming in one nostril and going out the other.

OP it's a game changer for sinuses, especially for prevention. You want to prevent your nose clogging up too much during the initial cold so the secondary bacterial infection doesn't have a chance to settle in. I've kept many a cold away through systematic use of netipot as soon as I could feel it coming on. (Well that and a one-time mega dose of zinc + gurgling with a weak iodide solution + keeping very warm to the point of an overnight swear cure - think 3 pj's on top of each other.)

GrumpyPanda · 19/11/2023 07:50

Sorry that was intended for @LeakyPipes not OP.

LeakyPipes · 19/11/2023 08:01

Thanks @GrumpyPanda 👍 I ordered the NetiPot from Amazon an hour ago. It’s coming tomorrow. Can hardly wait! 😁

LeakyPipes · 19/11/2023 08:13

@GrumpyPanda @ShippingNews Can I use the NetiPot at the streaming cold/blocked nose stage or do I need to wait until it’s settled down? Would so love to shift this!
