Please can anyone reassure me headache?

Sorry for the multiple posts everyone, clearly I am very stressed and anxious I know but I just really want to hear people's experiences with consistent headaches, started as an all over headache with facial pain, facial pain has gone and now it's just at the base of my head by neck, and back of head on one side, same place now for 48 hours - it's intermittent throughout the day, I also have a bad pressure in both ears, and the back of head pain is throbbing, it's horrific!
I've seen doctors, I've been a&e when I had the facial pain with it which was a little over a week ago and they sent me home as non emergency, said to chase up with doctor. I left it a few more days to see if it would go honestly it's just getting worse. I would much prefer the sinus pain than this! Admittedly as I said I am very stressed and I so hope this is due to stress but I've never had pain like it, I do have a low pain tolerance and I can tolerate light/noise - no fevers or vomiting but I just wanna sleep it off all the time! That's the only time I have relief from it. Even googling, I can't find anything that fully matches what this is and I'm so scared, all I can find is having a headache everyday is not normal and needs to be investigated, also want to add the back of my neck near the base where I have pain is also very clicky, hurts to bend my neck back but can freely move around any other way, just bending back hurts! does this sound like anything anyone else has had? :( please no mean or nasty comments as I understand I am worried, I just want reassurance whilst I wait for my doctors appointment

Sounds like stress. Can you get a massage or see a physio to release your neck/shoulders?

Try a warm bath. Watch Dan Buglio on YouTube. He talks about pain that comes from stress.

Thank you for responding. I think it may also have something to do with my neck aswell as when I bend my neck back it really triggers the pain worse, I wonder if it could be a posture related headache? But it's so bad so I don't know ☹️ I will have a look at those videos now!

Combination of stress and do you work at a screen/use a laptop a lot?

Focus on getting your shoulders down and not hunching plus make sure your desk set up is OK if you work at a desk. Looking at the wrong height screen with the wrong height chair was knackering my neck.

Icannoteven · 19/10/2023 21:42

It sounds like the headaches I get. I suspect I have occipital neuralgia but my dr has been a bit useless about the whole thing. Have a look at the link below and see if this sounds familiar:

https://www.aans.org/en/Patients/Neurosurgical-Conditions-and-Treatments/Occipital-Neuralgia

I take paracetamol, coffee and immigran for mine. I also use voltarol for the neck pain and tiger balm for the pain above the eye. I also make sure I have a super low pillow at night and try to sleep on my back so I don’t set it off. Backpacks are a no-no too.

See an osteopath. Mine is brilliant at sorting headaches

FlyingUnicornWings · 19/10/2023 21:44

Second the osteopath! I get cervicogenic (sp?) headaches and the osteopath sorts them out.

Yes I do! I do 5 hour shifts 5 days a week infront of a laptop and I usually work on my sofa, been doing it for a few years now so didn't suspect it would start now if anything!🤔

I did look into this! I was thinking it sounded a bit similar but I've had it literal non stop, it's intermittent but when it comes it really comes 😭😢 took cocodomal two hours ago and still it has not eased for me

Your symptoms are identical to what sent me spiraling thinking I had a tumour and all sorts.

Turned out I have a chiari (its harmless). Weather changes can set it off too. Could be that. Once I found out and did a bit of research about 10 years of weird low level annoying symptoms all made sense.

Mazza7412 · 19/10/2023 21:49

Hi
i have bruxism and it sounds very similar! I get horrific face / head pain which also radiates to my neck and muscles within my head. I was seen by hospital and no one picked up on it initially. It is usually triggered by stress and then grinding teeth.
try a mouth guard at night to see if that helps to start with. Unfortunately, I actually chewed through a few of them so didn’t work for me. I’ve had it for years now and have to have Botox in my jaw muscles to lesson the ability to do it as damaging my teeth.
I use ice packs to reduce the face pain and warm wheat bags around my neck to ease the tense muscles

A physio would be so cross with you!

Eventually your muscles just say 'Enough!'

I didn't think this could be a cause at all! Wow, maybe.... it's so weird though as I never get headaches and now all of a sudden I'm plagued with them!

Could this start out of nowhere? I did have a brain mri one year ago for something completely unrelated (I had vertigo) but the mri was clear

Everytime I wake up I have an uncomfortable feeling on one side of my head and neck and it gradually turns into pain, I can already feel it now, I hate this☹️

I’ve had headaches and abdo discomfort for last 3days -I would say a bug or virus as I’m much better today. Also never normally get headaches.

Ormonde · 20/10/2023 06:30

It’s this Storm Babet that’s coming. The air pressure has dropped drastically and humidity is very high. My ears are hurting and I’ve had a headache for two days. It will go away by the weekend when the weather passes.

I've had this as a whole for around 3 weeks now, was diagnosed as sinus but it went!! Came back about 5 days ago in neck and back of head really badly😭

How many pillows do you sleep on?

I have every type of migraine going, diagnosed by a neurologist. He said the very best thing you can do is sleep on one or no pillows. Posture is everything.

Have you tried syndol? There's the one with a muscle relaxant in it (doxylamine) that might really help, but be warned, you won't be able to do much if you take the full dose. But that might not be a bad thing! Have you tried a hot water bottle? Don't underestimate the power of heat!

It really sucks. Hope it resolves soon.

cloudfree · 20/10/2023 06:45

Would also suggest an Osteopath.
if there is something that they are then concerned about they will refer back to GP.

Two! But I've always slept on two, I've never had any issues ☹️ I haven't tried syndol, never heard of it! I'm taking cocodomal at the moment, it isn't doing much

It may not have caused you issues until now! Your neck is so delicate, but we pay very little attention to it. I'd try sleeping on one pillow. It took me a good while to get used to it.

I'll try and find a link to syndol, hang on.

Thank you! Il try tonight! I suffer badly with anxiety but this just makes me worse 😢 my docs appointment feels so far away even though it's only about 5 days, I've spoken to my friend this morning and she said she thinks I'm stressing and I should try anti anxiety medication to calm down and says she bets the pain would go if I did, struggle to believe stress can cause a consistent headache this bad for days! 😫

So it can be hard to find the right version, that has the doxylamine in it. But this is what they look like when they have it in...

Please can anyone reassure me headache?

Thank you, il keep my eye out! I am going to go into boots today, I wonder if the nurofen-migraine would help?

Stress absolutely can cause pain like that and it will always feel worse when you are anxious.
Working 5 hours a day on a laptop on the sofa can absolutely cause neck issues and pain like you are describing- doesn't matter how long you've been doing it for already something has triggered this now.
It doesn't sound like there's anything sinister going on.
I would second the advice to see an osteopath, they can be amazing at sorting out headaches and can also advise you on posture.
