Home skin tag removal stories? (Panicking!)

ThanksMateThanksMate · 19/09/2023 14:21

I've had a skintag on my left nipple for 20 years. All DC breastfed so putting it down to this. I don't have tags elsewhere.
It's never been sore but I HATE the sight of it and have always been a bit self-conscious of it.
STUPIDLY...
STUPIDLY!!!!.....
Last night, fortified by Aldi's bargain Cava, I decided to look up home-removal techniques. Then I decided to ignore all the advice to leave well alone. Then I grabbed dental floss and tied the mother of all knots around it.

Now I'm panicking. I know it's a process I have to see through (I did try and take the floss off without success).

There's a bit of pain and huge regret.

Please chip in if you've any advice or a similar experience - I feel REALLY stupid.

I did it and had it on for a about a week, it got quite painful after a day or two, very painful in fact so I tried to take the string off but I couldn't. I had tied it to tight, so in the end I left the string on and the pain eventually went and I forgot about it until I realised a few days later the tag had fallen off and the process had worked

Edit to my above post - clear nail varnish POLISH (not remover, obviously!)

Fameinaframe · 19/09/2023 20:45

I get them all the time , loadsss
On my neck , under arms thighs etc.

Always just chop them off with nail clippers.
Sometimes they bleed a little but nothing drastic.

Does it not hurt?

Does anyone remember the thread in which a Mumsnetter performed a DIY haemorrhoidectomy? Did I dream that?

Blessedbethefruitz · 19/09/2023 21:39

I used an amazon kit earlier this year. I grew a bunch (never had them before) after baby 2, mostly on my bra line. But one somewhere v uncomfortable that rubbed when I walked. I felt major regret the day after when it was swollen to 4x the initial (large) size and dark purple, but day 2 it was back to normal size and not painful, and day 3 it was missing 🤔 Trying to contort myself in the mirror to get the band on in the first place was tricky alas!

wineandsunshine · 19/09/2023 21:53

Oooh - I'm a recent skin tag expert!

I had a large one on my hip (knicker line). Tee tree oil did nothing so I went for electrolysis removal. Basically cauterised it off! It did sting for about a minute but now it's a teeny scab. £20 well spent 🤣

Elzibells · 19/09/2023 21:56

I get skin tags and small warts. I just skim them off with a cuticle remover. Any bleeding or pain is minimal & no scarring. The cuticle remover allows you to be quite accurate with the hacking and can press as hard or light as you need to.

Jewelanemone · 19/09/2023 22:15

I bought a tiny bottle of ferocious burny liquid from Amazon. Worked wonders on my neck tag but, bloody hell, it smarted for a while.

AtrociousCircumstance · 19/09/2023 22:23

@Jewelanemone please link to the ferocious liquid!

Blazzingsaddos · 19/09/2023 22:24

Does anyone have any recommendations for tea tree oil, that will be my first port of call before I get the cave and scissors

Iguanas369 · 19/09/2023 22:28

I did the tie a bit of thread around it. It gets a bit tender and you won't think it's working then all of a sudden it will just fall off!

happygertie · 19/09/2023 22:29

I get them in my underarms and back of neck for some reason. I just numb mine with lidocaine cream and then cut off with clean scissors. I'm too impatient for tying floss round them, it will be fine, will eventually drop off

TheBabylonian · 19/09/2023 22:31

Nail clippers is what I used

Well, that's worrying! I've searched my past orders and it's gone! Probably taken off the market for burning holes in people. 🫤

There are lots of similar products - it was a bottle of remover and a bottle of 'repair' cream.

whoisjoe · 19/09/2023 22:34

I got one off in my inner thigh, tied it with thread and it fell off in a few days. It did nip at first, it’ll be grand!

Helenahandkart · 19/09/2023 22:37

I snipped a couple off from my armpit. There was a small sharp pain, a bit like pricking yourself with a needle, but it only lasted a second.
I’ve also cut a couple off my husband’s neck. He isn’t good with pain and was VERY apprehensive, but he said it was surprisingly quick and barely hurt for a second.

Tilllly · 19/09/2023 22:37

I've got one on my labia, really annoys me
Daren't tie it tho - and it's awkwardly positioned

Can I tea tree oil it?

XenoBitch · 19/09/2023 22:39

I had a small one on the inside of my elbow. I just shaved it off.

tinkerbellvspredator · 19/09/2023 22:39

I did one in the groin area years ago. It went sore and purple, but then it shrivelled up and went black. It didn't quite fall off and I was worried so it went to the GP who rubbed it with I think antiseptic on a cotton wool.ball, and it came off. I did regret it somewhat because it caused me quite a bit of worry and the GP wasn't very impressed!

Weirdreally582 · 19/09/2023 22:41

Aww, I had a skin tag on my nipple and on my inner Thigh as a child. I was around 11/12 when the nipple one showed up, my mum took me to the GP who basically said to leave it, it was fine

I wasnt happy with that at all, wanted them both gone so I got some baby scissors and cut them off 😅 it really hurt, briefly, but they never came back

LondonLovie · 19/09/2023 22:41

Skin tag remover thingy off Amazon. It sort of clamps an elastic band around it and it falls off. No blood, pain or scar.

Heyhoherewegoagain · 19/09/2023 22:41

I did it years ago with one on my shoulder, I used thread rather than dental floss, don’t remember any pain, it dropped off quickly with no scar

inloveandmarried · 20/09/2023 10:32

It will throb for a bit, then go black and fall off.

You have cut the blood supply to it in a sensitive area.

Nothing bad will happen.

You can put some alcohol gel on it if you are worried about infection but in my experience they just shrivel and drop off in a few days.

Update at 48 ish hour mark..
It's still a bit nippy and sore if my bra touches it going on/off.
I ''think'' it's starting to change colour a wee but.
As pp said, my worry is that I've not done it right and it won't work but thanks to all your posts, I'm now not worried about my entire bosom exploding..
