Lumpy breast

lillie23 · 09/09/2023 09:12

I went the doctors yesterday as I could feel a lump in my right breast. It's smooth and moveable but he could also feel a smaller one which was next to it. Now this is smooth and moveable. I can't only find it if I press hard into the breast. I've been put on the 2 week pathway for an appointment but I'm worried as hell. Anyone else had anything like this before in one breast? I am 41.

@lillie23 yea exactly and I have no issue at all with whoever checks me but I’ve not had great experiences with male GPS in that area so will wait on my lady GP, she is also very thorough and always errs on the side of caution! Are your lumps tender or sore? Mine feels more like a hardened part of my upper breast but tbh I’m so bad with anxiety I’m probably making it worse.

I feel I've made mine worse with all the prodding around I am doing. I feel like they have become lumpier. I am literally checking it every hour. Mine aren't sore, and are hard and moveable. I have my appointment on Monday and I do not know how I am getting through the whole weekend feeling like this.

OP, I've been twice to the Breast clinic - fibrocystic lumps both times and so benign. Consultant said 96% of lumps he sees were benign . GPs take no risks and send everyone on the two week pathway.

Currently waiting for my screening mammogram result to come back.

GreenMonty · 14/09/2023 20:55

Don't check all the time 💐you'll just make yourself sore and it does no good. I know it's hanging over you but well done to get it checked out.

OhDoh · 14/09/2023 20:58

I just had something simlier. Breast clinic saw me and all was fine. I'm 33. They said that most are benign. Try not to stress (easier said than done). GP did say that NHS has a low referral tolerance for breast lumps and 90% of people who go to the docs with them get referred on a 2 week pathway. X

Thanks everyone for your advice, I would be lost without this site. Isn't it horrible getting older. Everything is such a worry.

I have definitely made mine worse & slightly have even bruised them! If I didn’t have lumpy breasts anyway it would be much easier 😂 so I feel the same as you OP here all the way, do make sure to update if you can. I have to wait another almost 2 weeks for my appt for my GP but as I said I’d prefer to wait for her & not leave confused or wanting to go back for another opinion. I’m only 28 but have always had lumpier boobs and my health anxiety just makes it worse. :(

Healthfreak95 · 14/09/2023 21:53

@GreenMonty whay did yours feel like can I ask? Xx

GreenMonty · 14/09/2023 22:57

Near the nipple, on the outside of the breast - smooth, round, moveable.

GreenMonty · 14/09/2023 22:59

Actually the second cyst was buried deep. I only saw an indentation along the side of the breast but it was benign.

Same here @weegiemum, r.e. Fri.

One thing I've learned from mentioning it to friends is that a trip to the clinic seems a rite of passage. Every other woman I know has said "oh yeah, been there", another friend had a prod and said "that's like my fibroadenoma!" Another has reassured me that cancerous lumps aren't the sorts of things you can grab and roll around like a stress ball. Yours might be feeling hard on account of being covered by more tissue.

But until we're ultrasounded there will always be the OH GOD ME TITS MIGHT BE MURDERING ME feeling.

And, then, if they are, I try to reassure myself that there are clearly defined NHS pathways that move at speed with this.

I think that is what used to be called a breast mouse 😁

I am trying to increase the iodine in my diet because that is supposed to help with benign breast issues. Apparently we don't get so much in our diet now that we don't use seaweed and fishmeal as agricultural fertilisers.

Plenty white fish and seaweed 🌿

Guys had a bad day poking and prodding and now I’ve noticed a slight dimple but it’s where I was digging in, could that have caused it? Honestly never saw it before right now!

GreenMonty · 15/09/2023 19:43

Don't stress OP. The dimple/indentation could be due to a cyst.

Don't poke around 💐. If it's any consolation to you my mammogram was on my mind today because I'm waiting for the results. I just put it out of my head. Don't meet trouble halfway.

GreenMonty · 15/09/2023 19:44

Sorry meant healthfreak not OP

Healthfreak95 · 15/09/2023 19:57

Thanks for your fast reply! It literally just popped up. The area is a bit tender and swollen so I’m thinking it could be thay. I’m such a bad worrier :((

Healthfreak95 · 15/09/2023 20:21

I’m at the point where I’m wondering would a trip to the emergency room be worth it as would they run all tests there?

GreenMonty · 15/09/2023 20:35

No Healthfreak - it's the Breast clinic you need. All the experts and equipment are there. We all go through the wait for the clinic and I know it's hard but they are the right people with the right equipment.

Healthfreak95 · 15/09/2023 21:01

Irrational thinking & panic, I know 🙈 It’s definitely swollen so I think that’s the cause of the dimpling 🙈so sorry to be acting so crazy!

GreenMonty · 15/09/2023 21:54

No problem Healthfreak. When you've anxiety your brain overplays risk to a massive extent. You are in your 20s so the statistics are on your side. It's normal to be worried if you have a health check coming up but the GP will be able to help and may be able to reassure.

It's not easy at all so don't feel bad about worrying.

Healthfreak95 · 18/09/2023 19:09

Any updates with any of ye guys? Would love to hear.
I went to a GP (not my usual lady who is very good) but a stand in, man who wasn’t very helpful I had to literally demand a referral. In Ireland could take upto 6 weeks but I will ring & nag myself if it comes to it and I will get my usual GP involved when I see her the end of next week.
wasnt too worried about dimple and said he couldn’t feel what I was feeling underneath. Honestly so useless!

I have just got back from my appointment. It was hormonal related. So I am relieved. They did a mammogram and a scan and everything was fine. I was in and out within an hour. The Doctors referral really stressed me out by putting likely cancer on my form. I hope you get sorted.

From being referred to having the appointment it was just over a week. I was literally in and out in just over an hour with all the scans.

@DrLouiseJMoody @weegiemum did you have your appointments on Friday?

DrLouiseJMoody · 19/09/2023 09:32

This Fri for me.

After 57 days (yes, really) my period arrived and the lump is now a bit squishier - grape like in places - but still the same size. I tell self this must be a perimenopausal cyst (it's attached neither to skin nor tissue and rolls around) whilst simultaneously diagnosing self with rare and exotic cancers.

The appt. letter is actually reassuring and says that even if you have a biopsy you'll know a week later, so the NHS does seem to work in parts!
