2x 1 hour aerobics classes per week (sometimes only one depending on dh's shifts)

3 or 4 runs a week, of between 5 and 10km

Shit, that looks so minimal when its written down I think you've just inspired me to train harder.

I'm doing it/motivated by:
needing to lose 2stone 5lbs still after the boys,
and by wanting to be attractive again,
and fit,
and look good in clothes,
and get the buzz from training hard

mustrunmore · 02/03/2008 09:22

Oh, and I do love it. Sometime its really hard to get myself going eg if I'm tired and I cant get a run in till 9pm, or if its raining and I dont want to walk to aerobics!! But its feels so much better after I've done it. Even though I look the same, I feel thinner and fitter!

Elibean · 02/03/2008 12:38

mustrunmore, 'minimal', are you serious ?!?

My youngest is 15 months, and I know I'll do more once she's at pre-school, but atm I am happy if I manage a swim per week and lots of fast walking!

When I was on holiday, I swam min 20 mins per day, fast. Loved it, and felt so much fitter - though probaby wasn't, really. Am not motivated by weight loss, as I tend to lose whatever I need to lose by running around after children/not sleeping enough...but feeling younger/fitter/better for sure.

I enjoy swimming, once I'm there (pool not close enough or I'd do it more), feels like my space and is relaxing/meditative for me. And used to do weekly Pilates class with dh, which I enjoyed for social aspects as well as the (fast) improvement in my shape!

S1ur · 02/03/2008 12:45

run every other night - only for about 20mins at mo

I enjoy that, it blows away the day and I am alone for just a teeny amount of time. That's rare enough to be special.

I also do a abdominal workout on the nights I don't run - not specially enjoyable but I'm trying to flatten my stomach to pre-preg - hasn't worked yet, but I've only this routine for a couple of months. The muscles are def stronger but still no definition.

My dp also runs (hence the every other night) and we keep each other motivated.

GrinningSoul · 02/03/2008 12:48

mustrunmore you are hard core!

get this. my kids are 8 and 4 and i'm finally just getting round to doing some proper exercise as opposed to walking fast and cycling.

i'm trying to go to the gym 3 times a week, and swim at least once a week for at least an hour, fast.

ur that's it.

And i've got about 2 stone to lose, which has ll piled on in the last 2 years. horrid.

Minum · 02/03/2008 12:55

Run for 20 mins 3 times a week

Cycle to do my errands, so about 5miles per week

Do it to lose weight, get some muscles, manage stress, and feel younger

ib · 02/03/2008 12:56

Like Slur, I run every other day (for 1/2 hour but mostly steep uphill) and do a situp workout on the other days. When we have the time go climbing once a week.

I also do 15' of stretching a day.

The way I stay motivated is to just not think about it - it's like brushing my teeth, I may not always want to do it but I want the health benefits so I do it (suffered from a really bad back which was what got me onto exercising, I never did any when I was younger).

Love the climbing, that's just a treat for me. When I had the time before ds was born I just did that every day and was ultra-fit.

Celery · 02/03/2008 13:14

I run to combat depression. Unfortunately I've been injured for a couple of months, and stupidly didn't replace the running with any other exercise. That's right, I've slid right back again and am feeling low at the moment. I absolutely need to exercise for my mental health. The physical benefits are just the cherry on the top.

MrsMattie · 02/03/2008 13:17

Nada at the moment. I have a plan, though!

LoveMyGirls · 02/03/2008 13:18

I thought i'd been doing well with a bit of extra walking, swimming once a week and last night i went ice skating!

I'm not one for areobics I do feel better after exercise but I need it to be incorporated into normal life rather than set times per week.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/03/2008 13:18

Absolutely Celery - I'm pretty much there myself at the moment. Have lost my mojo.

missingtheaction · 02/03/2008 13:39

go skiing, regularly, once a year

MaeWest · 02/03/2008 13:42

Walk about an hour a day.

Occasional sex.

That's about it... but I do weigh about a stone less than before I became a parent, so something must be going right

I haven't been swimming since DS was born, really miss it...

Smithy · 02/03/2008 13:47

I do:

x1 RPM Spinning Class (1 hour)
x2 Body Pump Classes (1 hour each)
x1 Rebounding Class (30 mins)
x1 Running group 5K (1 hour)

Try and go cycling and for an additional run too.

WanderingTrolley · 02/03/2008 13:50

What is this 'exercise' of which you speak?

Why are you all exhausting yourselves instead of collapsing in front of some shit tv with a box of chocolates and 4 pizzas?

[baffled]

[and fat]

This thread has frightened me quite badly.

But lol at 'occasional sex'

Heated · 02/03/2008 13:52

Dislocated my knee and had corrective surgery but don't trust it enough to fully weight bear so no running, which is my way of keeping fit

Suppose I ought to get a referral from gp to someone?

So at present doing 20 mins most nights on cross-trainer/exercise bike in front of the tv but it is

derlorisMonica · 02/03/2008 14:04

i have just started exercising again so feel just a little bit smug with myself at the mo!!

I currently do body pump twice a week (so 2 hours)
body combat once a week.

going skiing in 2 weeks as well so that will count for LOADS!!!

trying to loose 1.5 stone after my 3rd baby.

I LOVE body pump, body combat is hillarious cause my instructer is a nutter!!
I would recommend exercising with a friend as it keeps you motivated.
It's important to find the right type of exercise for you - I personally hate the gym and running so wouldn't stick with them.

(PMSL at "occasional sex"!!)

motherinferior · 02/03/2008 14:06

I aim to swim 60 lengths three times a week; I do a pilates class every week; and I walk a fair bit.

Am not I can really count my sex life as Exhausting Erotic Workout.

I do it because I look and feel substantially better when I do.

motherinferior · 02/03/2008 14:07

I left out sure between not and I, sorry

themoon66 · 02/03/2008 14:10

Running 4 or 5 times a week, which adds up to 18 to 15 miles depending on weather, motivation etc.

Dancing once a week, sometimes twice (modern jive with DH).

I gave up my gym membership as it bored me rigid.

yama · 02/03/2008 14:15

I walk to and from work which adds up to about 50 minutes (pushing a buggy mind) per weekday.

Hmm, I think that's about it. If I feel unfit I make the family do something energetic at the weekend otherwise I have a nice sit down.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 02/03/2008 14:17

Just getting back into it after having ds (16wks), as I too need to lose the baby weight got about another 1.5stone to go!! Go to combat once a wk and spinning once a week and try to do 1 or 2 workouts at home - either with a dvd or from memory!! going to restart running when ds is 6mths- aim to do half marathon in sept!!

StrangeTown · 02/03/2008 14:20

I played netball 2-3 times per week before I had DS. This one is easy, as we are in leagues you can't just say you don't feel like it and not turn up.
Have just started to ride a friends horse again, which is far more physically knackering that you might think...

Take DS swimming once a week, but as he is only 3 months this mainly involves us bobbing around, suppose it is toning my arms a bit. Also have a Pilates machine which I can just start to use again after CSection. I love exercise, can't wait to get back to netball once Summer League starts. I think I will find it really hard to fit stuff in once I go back to work - not looking forward to that one.

I run about 5km once a week at the moment but it will be three times a week once it's not dark when I get home from work.

On the days I don't run then I do a workout dvd - my prefered one at the moment is in 15 min sections targetting arms, abs, bum & thighs so will do 1 or 2 sections depending on when I get home from work. Or I will step for 15 mins.

If I skip the run (I find it very difficult when it's very windy) then I'll do a longer cardio workout dvd (like one of Nell McAndrew's).

I like exercising. Would prefer to go to the gym but it's not on the way home so takes too long to get to.
