Has anyone had a tooth removed?

Hi all, I'm just wondering how long the bleeding, pain and tenderness lasts? How do you know if it's infected? when can you use the area normally? does skin grow over it? I'm so sad, my dentist couldn't do root canal so he took my tooth out instead .

Hmm, that sounds better! I'll have a look at their website. Thankyou. I really can't face having anything else done.

I got it after I a filling fell out, I left it gfor ages and it got infected and very painful. I called the primary health trust to get details of an NHS dentist with space to take me on and was recommened the most awful dentist on earth! It was very obvious which tooth was damaged but the dentist still insited on hitting all of my teeth with a heavy intrument to see where the pain was comming from and I jumped out of my seat when he reached my bad tooth and then wanted to do it again from the other direction! He then told me my only option was to have the tooth removed which I really did not want him to do so I told him I was going to get a second opinion to which he replied see you in a few days. I saw dp's private dentist (he has never needed any work so it doesn't cost him much more to be seen privately) who he's been with since he was a child. The rivate dentist was like an angel to me, he did a root canal and saved my tooth and had to do quite a few other fillings to. The bil came to £650 but it was money well spent but as I now have the HSA plan and I go every six months I will hopefully never have a bill like that again!

It was the only NHS one I could find. The waiting room's full of chavs, I think I've made a mistake but I'm worried about going back to my old dentist because he's going to notice the missing tooth. I'm still on his books though, have a check up in April with him and an appointment with the other one mid March. I may cancel this. My old one didn't say anything to me about needing 3 fillings, he said I may need 1 though. I'll have a look at HSA and cancel the policy I have now, there's not much cost difference. He did try root canal though. Is your tooth better now?

My tooth is fine now but will need a bridge at some point if it causes me any more problems. I am having a filling in a couple of weeks but thats in a different tooth.

It makes you wish you'd have taken more care of them. I'm trying to talk ds into being a dentist, that would be nice. And free!
