It’s driving me mad.

Ive tried everything. Under my little toes. The best thing is putting a barrier of toilet roll or cloth between them, but it doesn’t stay in place. It’s just getting worse.

Tried
Clotrimazole
Daktarin
Lqmisil
Nystan

Ive even tried Head and Shoulders shampoo. Nothing works. Some of the meds were from GP so prescription strength😣

I’m going to share an odd one that was passed on to me. Urine.
I know I know, but it worked when nothing else did. Collect it. Pour over foot. Dry. Wash off a bit later and repeat daily.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/08/2023 17:32

Urine🤢

Can you just dab it on?

OH uses TCP after his shower.

thecatinthetwat · 20/08/2023 17:48

A friend swears by cider apple vinegar as a foot soak, could be worth a try.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/08/2023 17:51

If you have been wearing trainers and had a long running case of athlete's foot, then the trainers will be full of it and reinfecting you. Spray or powder won't prevent that.

Redburnett · 20/08/2023 17:55

I once used 10% canesten (intended for vaginal thrush) which worked when nothing else had. It came in an applicator, i just squeezed a bit out each time i applied it.

greenacrylicpaint · 20/08/2023 17:57

can you see a podiatrist privately?

agree with pp. new shoes and wash socks, towels and bedding at 60 degrees.
at dettol if you want.
wear socks 100% bamboo or cotton (they can be washed hot without issue.
dry feet carefully after washing.

SpamFrittersYouSay · 20/08/2023 17:59

Tea Tree cream or Vick's Vaporub.

Much better results than fungal foot cream.

WasThereAnotherTroyforHertoBurn · 20/08/2023 18:02

What is potassium manganate used for?

Potassium permanganate is used as a wet dressing for wounds on your skin's surface that are blistered or oozing pus. Athlete's foot and impetigo. Potassium permanganate can help to treat both bacterial and fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot and impetigo.

It turns your foot purple, but if you are wearing trainers, that won't matter.

OSU · 20/08/2023 18:08

Are you sure it's Athlete's Foot? I had insanely itchy feet, so bad I was scratching them with a hairbrush and they were so red and sore. I was deployed on operations with the military and it turns out it was the desert socks. I was allergic to them. Swapped to Bridgedales and the relief was almost immediate.

So could you have a really bad allergy?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/08/2023 18:37

I don’t really wear socks in the summer so l don’t think ot could be socks .
I’ll try the vapour rub too.

Has anyone had any joy with UV shoe sanitisers? I think my athletes foot has come back as I'm wearing the same shoes (despite using an antifungal shoe spray).

Seen this one on Amazon but having doubts:

Tea tree oil.

Marilla1966 · 20/08/2023 18:52

I used cider apple vinegar (with the Mother) when I was pregnant and not allowed to use Daktarin or other strong medicine. I sat with my foot in it for a while and, despite being skeptical, it did work x

TripleDaisySummer · 20/08/2023 18:59

Or lavender oil in foot soak or Teatree oil but washing socks at 60 degree and try and have multiple shoes so they can dry between wears and the athletes foots powder is good.

stardust777 · 20/08/2023 19:03

@Marilla1966 Thanks for the tip, going to give the apple cider vinegar remedy a go. How long did you soak your foot for? Did you dilute the acv with water?

Mabelface · 20/08/2023 19:52

T for toes talc from lush sorted mine out when nothing else did.

ParticleLizzicist · 20/08/2023 20:37

OP, have you been tested for blood sugar irregularities? Just a thought. Glad hairdryer is helping. Hang in there.

THXY · 06/08/2025 13:26

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd share what worked for me:

  1. Lamisil Once - it's the only thing that seems to work

  2. To prevent reinfection, wash your socks (and anything else your feet come into contact with such as towels) with an antifungal detergent such as "Halo Sports" liquid which is available in places like Sainsbury's - follow the instructions on the bottle. Normal antibacterial detergent things won't kill the fungus.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/08/2025 13:29

Lamisil once didn’t touch mine.

I saw a thread on Reddit the other day. Everyone was raving about this:

White vinegar plus the amber listerine on equal parts. Add Epsom salts. Soak feet for 30 mins. Rinse off. Exfoliate. Repeat next day until it goes.Dry with hairdryer and use powder.

Apparently it hurts and itches more at first but you need to push through that.

MelOfTheRoses · 06/08/2025 13:37

If the "amber listerine" is the listerine original, they don't sell it in the UK any more.

It’s only to stop your nails turning blue.

Podiatrist here. If you are not wearing socks with closed in shoes or slippers you will get repeated fungal infections. You must wear socks with anything closed in! Lamisil Once only works for mild infections.
You need to get normal Lamisil cream and use it daily for 4-5 weeks. Wash socks at 60 degrees. Spray all shoes with Clinisept Podiatry spray which you can get from Amazon. This can be used as a prevention once your fungal infection has cleared by spraying your feet daily and spraying shoes. But you still must wear socks with shoes. Get rid of any slippers as you cannot get fungal spores out of slippers. Any new slippers you must wear socks with them. Walk around bare feet as much as possible at home your feet need air. If you have very sweaty feet in general you can use surgical spirit as an anti-perspirant on your feet as prevention. You will get repeated infections if fungal spores are still in your shoes.

It was trainers that caused mine, not shoes without socks. I wore them for years with no issues.

Trainers are still closed in shoes. You still need to wear socks with trainers
