Lump in armpit

megansmarkle · 05/08/2023 23:36

I have this weird lump, it's not hard and doesn't feel swollen.

I don't want to waste my doctors time but what can I do to get rid of it?

OP posts:
Moonberri · 07/08/2023 14:58

It could be breast cancer or lymphoma. Blood tests are not a reliable way to diagnose cancer. It's likely to be nothing worrying but I wouldn't be risking my life by assuming it's OK.

I don't need to run to the gp over a lump that's harmless

I'm not "assuming" they can't help. I'm saying I don't think it's a concern and after recent episodes at the GP/nhs I would rather not have more money spent on me.

So how are you going to get rid of it if you don't know what it is?

Moonberri · 07/08/2023 15:38

You don't know what it is so you don't know that it's harmless. People are trying to help you. I don't know what you want from this thread. No one is going to tell you to perform surgery on yourself. Go to the GP.

Daisyhillsareblooming · 07/08/2023 15:43

This post is frustrating to read , if you’re not concerned why are you posting on mumsnet ? Do your self a favour and get it tested by a GP someone who has actually spent years practicing medicine. Any lump which doesn’t go away needs to be checked, hopefully not a cancer but surely you would rather know that just assume it’s nothing .

ZuliKyanLarsFoz · 07/08/2023 16:22

I have something that looks identical. The first thing my GP did was send me for a breast and axilla ultrasound. Normal blood tests doesn't rule out cancer.

I know it's nothing. It's soft and nothing there.... I just want it gone lol

Fgs, go to the doctor, get it checked. See what doctor recommends about getting rid of it, if it can't be done on the NHS.

Simples

lookingforMolly · 07/08/2023 17:42

My mum had normal blood tests with advanced metastatic cancer...

Just go to the gp or go private but stop faffing. Saying you 'want it gone' won't actually make it go.

This is from a lymphoma website:

If you notice a lump that doesn’t go away within 2 to 3 weeks, or you find that a lump is getting bigger, see your GP.

It isn’t possible to tell if someone has lymphoma just by feeling a lymph node. However, your GP can examine you to check whether they should refer you for further tests and scans.

Lymph nodes in the neck, armpit or groin are close to the surface of the skin and are easy to see and feel. Others that are deep inside the chest or tummy (abdomen), can’t be felt from the outside. They might only be found on a scan. They can cause pain if they swell and press on tissues inside your body.

Swollen lymph nodes caused by lymphoma:

  • are most commonly found in the neck, armpit or groin
  • are usually smooth and round
  • usually move out of the way when you press on them (are ‘mobile’)
  • have a ‘rubbery’ texture
  • are usually painless – although they can sometimes ache or cause pain in nearby areas (for example, if they’re pressing on a nerve)
  • can become very large.

Lymphoma Action | Tests, scans and staging for lymphoma

Doctors use tests and scans to diagnose lymphoma and to find out more about it after a diagnosis is confirmed. This helps them plan the best treatment for you. You might have further tests and scans during treatment, follow-up and any periods of active...

Are you deliberately being a bit dense? Why would you bother posting? How can anyone on here tell you what to do with it?

etonmess91 · 07/08/2023 22:26

If you won't follow posters advice, follow the NHS!

ArcticSkewer · 08/08/2023 04:17

If it's not cancer, just a 'lump or bump' there isn't much you can do to get rid of it, no magic cures I know about. Possibly surgery but that would cost £1k+ (that's a guess - I have a tiny cyst elsewhere and was quoted £500). If it's infected then possibly antibiotics or having it drained, but that's going to involve GP visit as well.

mumtoboys12 · 08/08/2023 04:28

OP why are you being so rude to everyone when they are all trying to help? You posted on here for advice I assume? And now you're getting advice you are saying you don't want to take it?
That's a really sizeable lump and it doesn't look right. People don't get lumps for NO reason. And you would be mad to not get a second opinion.

Tourmalines · 08/08/2023 04:46

what you are asking,no one can say . We wouldn’t need gps if a lot of people can magically diagnose an image on social media . The mind boggles .

Fuckmyliferightnow · 08/08/2023 06:38

I've had breast cancer twice and nothing should be ruled out.
Even any small changed needs to be checked.
Also blood tests didn't reveal anything in my case and I'm quite Shock at how flippant your being, go and get it checked asap!

Fuckmyliferightnow · 08/08/2023 06:40

Predictive text just made me look illiterate.
changes and you're Blush

JFDIYOLO · 08/08/2023 08:31

Have you phoned this morning?

junebirthdaygirl · 08/08/2023 08:53

Look! You are asking for advice. The advice from many is see your GP as no lump should be ignored. Just do it! No argument.

If you saw medical people in the recent days why did you not show them the lump?

Get it checked out. I have these, it's probably nothing sinister, but you'll be sent for an ultrasound within 2 weeks. I've had to have checks three times.

YukoandHiro · 08/08/2023 09:02

OP just caught up on your thread and I've no idea why you started this thread but 100 percent this will put you on the two week BC check pathway and you do need to get it checked.
