I know he's scared, but you must make him go to hospital. I know you're scared too, but the doctors will be far better able to diagnose and help him than we are.

BananaPudding · 27/02/2008 14:01

Got ahead of myself and posted before I'd said, I'm really sorry you're going through this, I know how terrifying it is when your child is ill

chocolateteapot · 27/02/2008 14:02

I agree with BananaPudding, you really really need to take him to be looked at. Can your DP come with you or if not is there a friend you can take ?

flossish · 27/02/2008 14:03

you do do do need to go in. If it is that or something like cellulitus he needs treatment. Bribe him with chocolate, fruitshoot icecream toys whatever, but he has to go.

what is it that he is scared of? of what will happen? can you take favourite toy, teddy, pyjamas etc.. bribery , comics, football cards, sweets etc.... this sounds worse than what you would get from lying on your arm... he needs to be checked out throughly and to get to the root of the hospital problem. hope he is ok, you have enough to deal with right now x

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 27/02/2008 14:34

Agree with the bribery trace. Sounds like he's still got some sort of infection if he's still having temps. Did he have bloods done?

You're probably sick of the inside of a hospital though too I expect.

TotalChaos · 27/02/2008 14:34

It really does sound like more than just lying on it funny to get a reaction like that - if you lying on something in a bad way then you might end up with painful cramp, but it wouldn't physically change so much surely? glad he is feeling better this morning, hope GP appt is constructive.

Twiglett · 27/02/2008 14:36

I think this is the septic arthritis carrying to another joint

Is he on antibiotics? had he had tests

you need to read this and listen to the bit where it says

"If the infection is treated promptly, then there is a good chance of complete cure with no long term problems.

If there is delay in treatment, the infection can quickly destroy parts of the joint. This may lead to long term pain, reduced movement of the joint, and some disability."

he hates hospital we spend so much time there with his sister last week it cost me a fortune we had to buy ds games but will do again if it means he gets well

My brother got red swollen feet as a child. Turned out he got a japanese disease called something like kalasaki fever which is caused by the house dust mite. It gets absorbed into the feet and causes some kind of allergic reaction or blood poisoning. It is rare. Wet carpets eg if you have shampooed them is a common culprit. He nearly died, was in an oxygen tent in the hospital.....then a junior doctor suspected it and thankfully he got the right treatment. It's a long shot I know.......hope you find out what it is.

ladylush · 27/02/2008 14:41

sorry it's kawasaki disease

trace2 · 27/02/2008 14:42

just got a new carpet, but our friends little boy ad sinlar week befor both been to same private swimming pool, we told hospital this but her little ones ok now

at the swimming pool it like false grass round edge and they was only two who went round that way, so we thought it was chemicel?

OP posts:
ladylush · 27/02/2008 14:53

could be - maybe the hospital need to do toxicology tests

TotalChaos · 27/02/2008 14:54

More information about Kawasaki disease.

www.kidshealth.org/parent/medical/heart/kawasaki.html

AFAIK it's an auto-immune disease, and has nowt to do with carpets. A big sign seems to be a very longlasting high temp.

Given that the hospital thought it was septic arthritis, I agree with Twig, it really does sound like a hospital job rather than wait for the GP I'm afraid.

chocolateteapot · 27/02/2008 14:57

I think Twiglett is probably right and she really is spot on about needing to get it looked at .

Before I had DD I used to work in a Rheumatology department doing research. If there was a chance that either of mine had Sceptic Arthritis then I would most definitely have them back down to the hospital to have it looked at faster than you can blink.

I can imagine how hard it is to have to take him in but really he does need looking at. Try bribery and whatever else you need to but get him back in.

It might be something completely different but are you really willing to take a chance on it ?

trace2 · 27/02/2008 15:04

ok trying to get him to go ill let you know thank you i dont know what i would do without mumsnet

OP posts:
ladylush · 27/02/2008 15:07

Yes I read a link on it too Total. Agree - nothing about carpets. This is what my mum was told in the late 70's/early 80's when my brother contracted it. Theories have obviously changed.

ladylush · 27/02/2008 15:08

Trace when you do go to the hozzy ask them to rule out kawasaki disease too.

Lulumama · 27/02/2008 15:57

someone here, was it emkana? her DS had kawasaki.......
