Took coke for the first time and chest hurts two days later

Please no judgement as I know there will be some. I'm 25 and I went to clubland over the weekend. I took coke for the first time and was vaping which I don't do either. And my chest has been hurting for two days since and it's really tight and as though I can't get a full breath it's like a panic attack.

Is this normal from this? As everyone else I was with is fine.

Hi all,

Mumsnet doesn't verify the qualifications of users. If you have medical concerns, we would strongly recommend that you consult a healthcare professional. Even qualified doctors can't diagnose over the internet, so keep that in mind when seeking or offering advice.

Plus above all, don't do drugs.

*plus including above, don't do drugs

this sounds pleuritic - does it hurt when breathing in?

Cocaine massively increases risk of clots and my unofficial-not-medical-advice-as-a-medic is go get checked out as you may have a pulmonary embolism (PE)

As an aside from the OP, what kind of medic are you?
(I'm often curious which kind of medic people mean when they call themselves "medic". We have so many descriptors now.

I don't get why a vape made from water vapour, veg glycerin and flavourings will hurt you more than bloody cocaine.

No judgement OP, I did it once. But coke is FAR more dangerous than vape.

I'd also if I did go to A&E say I've drunk a few redbulls so the coke taking wouldn't be on my medical records.

Don't follow this advise.
Be honey.
The doctors can only treat you appropriately if they have all the facts, not a bunch of lies!

Thanks all for the responses I was reading through them when I'd posted. I'm okay now, I think it was definitely a mix of vaping and having panic attacks from the come down. It was coming and going, but I'm much more settled now. Thanks for the advice all.

Each to their own but I don't think it's for me far to depressing afterwards lol.

Obviously if I hadn't have shown any improvement over time I would've sought medical attention but luckily I think I was panicking and working myself up. It's been years since I've had a panic attack so really didn't think it was one.

I work in healthcare, its impossible to say what's causing this, you need to get checked over.

Sittingonasale · 03/08/2023 02:38

I vape and I have never had a tight chest or pain from it. I very much doubt it's the vape if it was just normal liquid in it.

Sittingonasale · 03/08/2023 02:50

OP I've also struggled with panic attacks this year and they are horrid. I also found that taking Gaviscon helps with calming me down as a lot of the pains I felt were indigestion but it's a vicious circle with anxiety involved. You could try this and see if it helps?

If your chest is still bad in the night, I'd definitely go in and tell them the truth. It's important they have the correct history so they treat you accordingly.
I'd also be aware of PE. I am NOT a medic but have had DVTs (and currently a sore calf again and havent been to see the doctor yet) so just have an awareness of DVT and PE. I was only in my 20s when I had my first.

Anyone who who does coke knowing full well the chain of human misery behind it should frankly be ashamed of themselves. However, glad you're feeling somewhat better OP and hopefully you won't put yourself in this situation again
