Took coke for the first time and chest hurts two days later

Please no judgement as I know there will be some. I'm 25 and I went to clubland over the weekend. I took coke for the first time and was vaping which I don't do either. And my chest has been hurting for two days since and it's really tight and as though I can't get a full breath it's like a panic attack.

Is this normal from this? As everyone else I was with is fine.

I am a doctor, go to A&E, you will be seen quickly with chest pain (and they have seen it all before) yes it could be the Coke.

Vape and coke causes chest pains especially when used together, phone GP

BrutusMcDogface · 01/08/2023 21:06

I think you should always err on the side of caution with chest pain. Don’t be embarrassed; I’m sure they’ve seen worse. They’re professionals.

BS, I was sat in A&E for 5 hours with chest pains not long ago

CattyCattle · 01/08/2023 21:08

I've definitely had chest pains from smoking or vaping too much on a night out. This isn't 111, no one here is qualified to offer medical advice. I'm offering my opinion and what I would do. I'd take some vitamin B and ride it out as it's blatantly chest pains from vaping too much mixed with the anxiety from the coke come down.

Well to be fair, that is quickly

My very elderly father waited 13 hours with active internal bleeding.

Bet you got an ECG pretty quickly, no ?

CattyCattle · 01/08/2023 21:09

I'd also if I did go to A&E say I've drunk a few redbulls so the coke taking wouldn't be on my medical records.

Please don't do that. Cocaine has specific consequences that red bull does not and can delay appropriate investigations.

Goldencup · 01/08/2023 21:13

Up to you OP, personally I have seen Cocaine cause cardiac issues, I would want an ECG to make sure everything was OK and I would tell them, bo one is going to think or so anything about a little bit of recreational use, knowing it is cocaine induced may change the management.

Goldencup · 01/08/2023 21:14

No one

Greybeardy · 01/08/2023 21:16

No one’s gonna fall for that.

(FWIW, Coke and red bull behave rather differently and may need different treatment if they are causing heart problems).

Ladyoftheknight · 01/08/2023 21:16

Get checked out, be honest. You won't get in trouble x

SirChenjins · 01/08/2023 21:16

Go to A&E or call NHS24 or equivalent and ignore the coke heads on here - they’re not known for their good judgement. You shouldn’t ignore chest pains, especially after doing coke.

This is terrible advice.

If there is one set of people you should never lie to, it's your doctors.

Then you'd be an idiot. Why would you make it impossible for the HCPs to do their job properly? You might as well not bother going in the first place.

I hope OP has taken the sensible advice here and gone to A&E. I also hope she never takes coke again. Not just dangerous to those who take it, it harms everybody in the distribution chain and there isn't even a tax contribution to the economy to go some way to paying for the damage done.

Pirsty · 01/08/2023 21:24

You should definitely get it checked out, call 111 and be honest. But as you mention it feels like a panic attack, is there any chance it could actually be one? Have you had them before? Do you get anxiety? This is absolutely not to diagnose or minimise, I have just heard of several people who thought they were actively having/about to have a heart attack but it was a long panic attack. If no chance then just ignore me

Yes but they give you an ecg straight away and it’s reviewed, then you sit.

No they didn't

It will be the vapes and the come down.

Take some vitamin B, you'll be okay by Thursday mood wise.

How on EARTH do you know? She's got chest pain ffs. It's unlikely to be serious, but it could be.

momonpurpose · 01/08/2023 21:46

Please OP be completely honest with the Dr's on what you took. They have heard worse. But if you lie and blame in on energy drinks or something they can miss something incredibly important. Good luck

Sillymummies123 · 01/08/2023 21:47

this sounds pleuritic - does it hurt when breathing in?

Cocaine massively increases risk of clots and my unofficial-not-medical-advice-as-a-medic is go get checked out as you may have a pulmonary embolism (PE)

Sillymummies123 · 01/08/2023 21:49

Does it hurt when breathing, or is it constant?

Is it sharp or dull?

Are you short of breath?

Does it all worsen if you exert yourself?

justmyluck1234 · 01/08/2023 21:55

I would go and get checked over to be on the safe side...

PackettInn · 01/08/2023 22:23

I don't get why a vape made from water vapour, veg glycerin and flavourings will hurt you more than bloody cocaine.

No judgement OP, I did it once. But coke is FAR more dangerous than vape.
