I have started getting really shaky and I think it is low blood sugar but why has it suddenly started?

sorry no advice - but omg if you've but on 2 stones in the last 2yrs you must have been really skinny !

Immaculateconception · 26/02/2008 10:43

I get this from time to time as well. Still need to go to the doctors about it. Usually find that I get it either in the morning after rushing around the kids or in the afternoon if I don't eat for awhile. Usually find that a small piece of chocolate helps or a banana and that sorts me out.

I'd try eating a more low-GI/GL diet, to stabilise your blood sugar. Snacks like nuts and cheese are better than sugary things.

Is your current weight ok? Are you exercising?

This sort of shakiness can be a sign of diabetes coming on fairly soon, I'm afraid.

Sounds like low blood sugar - hypoglyceamia (spelling totally crap!). Try eating following GI diet rules. No processed carbs - whole grain, brown rice etc. Protein with every meal - keeps you fuller longer and keeps your blood sugar steady. Bananas give you a big boost of energy (whcih is why athletes have them before a race or whatever) but then the blood sugar drops just as fast leaving you shaky. So bananas with something like oatcakes is better.

pruners, i was like this about 2 years ago (actually i was 13 1/2 stone). a loose following of gi rules helped.

i found toast and refined carbs of any sort set me off on a shakey carb eating cycle.

btw i am not a atkins advocate and hate talking about 'carbs' but it definitely helped.

nailpolish · 26/02/2008 11:21

or fluttery feeling in chest?

vonsudenfed · 26/02/2008 11:22

I had this a few years ago - it came and went, and eventually I discovered that it was caused by:

changing my normal diet
being under stress
doing more exercise than normal
and having way too much caffeine

All of which tended to happen at the same time when I was away for work. I had blood tests and all sorts -the doctor was also wondering about diabetes - but there was nothing found. And then it stopped - mainly because I changed what I did at work I think.

Can you trace any pattern in yours, or does it seem to be more random?

NotQuiteCockney · 26/02/2008 11:22

Cinnamon and raisin bagel not great. Cashew butter fine. Bean/bacon soup probably fine.

Do you not like any exercise? How about walking?
