Recurring spot on inner labia. :(

I am a regular but felt the need to name change for this one.

I have a recurring spot/boil and don't think it's a Bartholin's cyst, as it is about half way along the labia.

It arrives, gets gradually larger (about the size of a pea) and more painful and then a week or so later bursts, oozing out lots of slimey gunk and blood.

Any advice on getting rid of the bugger for good?

Thanks!

no, squeezing good on boyfriend's back (ahhh those were the days in Cardiff...1984)

I had something similar for a while. The practice nurse thought it was a cyst that hadn't fully discharged and told me to see the Dr. She said that it wasn't Bartholin, as if it was I'd be in absolute agony and crying in pain with it. The Dr thought it might be a wart and referred me to the GUM clinic. The GUM nurse thought it was a polyp, the doctor wasn't sure if it was a polyp or a cyst but said it definitely wasn't a wart so took it out (under a local - no worse than having stitches after giving birth) and sent it for a biopsy. It turned out to be an infected sweat gland.

Going to the GUM clinic was no fun, but more use than seeing the GP. Some of the questions the doctors and nurses asked made me realise what a boring life I lead!

LilRed, shall I cheer you up?

My Mum, when she lived alone, ahd something similar. She tried to look at it in the mirror (ex nurse) but her arthritis made it difficult, so she took a photo of it with her digital camera and looked at it on the computer. She tehn deleted it from "my picures" on her computer.

A few months later, my sister was looking through Mum's pics on teh camera. Mum said my sister's face went

My poor sister said her eyes melted

Was about to post that I had similar a few years ago, about three times and no recurrence since, so never went to doctor about it, so am following this thread closely... BUT

Am laughing so much at MamaG's sister, cannot type anymore.

Sorry Califrau, didn't mean to belittle your painful labia.

Not a phrase I thought I'd be typing.

MamaG - Oh your poor sister!
PMSL!

LilRedWG · 26/02/2008 08:45

PMSL MamaG! So, so funny! I bet you wish you had a picture of your sister's face.

Alistair - am with Cali on this one. I love a good pick, but this is just painful. And I really think, "Sorry Califrau, didn't mean to belittle your painful labia." should be up for Quote of the Week!

AlistairSim · 26/02/2008 11:34

Well, you see, now I've been punished by a non-benevolent higher power.

I have a HUGE infected ingrown hair under my arm.

I have to walk like a chicken with a broken wing.
I worry about chaffing...but not as much as I worry about your chaffing.

LilRedWG · 26/02/2008 15:04

Ouch - poor you! Not a nice place at all

MamaG · 26/02/2008 15:10

Maybe Califrau wouldn't like that being QOTW though

250,000 MNers thinking "ooh cali's got a sore flange"

LilRedWG · 26/02/2008 15:11

I know MamaG There is no way I'd actually nominate it!

MamaG · 26/02/2008 15:13

I forgot my then LIL!

hecate · 26/02/2008 15:14

It could be a boil. You can get them there.

I want to type 'apparently', but the truth is, I know.

LilRedWG · 26/02/2008 15:14

I guessed there should have been one there.

LilRedWG · 26/02/2008 15:15

Funny x-post! That was to MamaG.

Hecate, do they drain and refill though?

hecate · 26/02/2008 15:16

Yup.

LilRedWG · 26/02/2008 15:17

And the treatment (dare I ask?). The word lancing is springing to mind

hecate · 26/02/2008 15:24

You need to see your gp. The last thing you want is pus seeping around your nethers! The gp would need to confirm it WAS a boil. If it gets infected you need antibiotics.

Recurrent boils can mean you've got something I can't spell at all! staph....somthing. You can get tests.

To treat a boil, you can put a hot flannel on it, or gp can drain it.

LilRedWG · 26/02/2008 15:26

Will mention it when I go to the doctors in a few weeks then. Ta!

I started this thread praying hoping someone would just say, "Take one magic tablet and it'll all go away!"

NoNickname · 26/02/2008 15:28

It does sound like a Bartholin's Cyst to me. If they become infected they become even more painful, often making the sufferer unable to walk, and need medical attention.

Much of the time a cyst will burst on its own though, which immediately relieves the pain.

AlistairSim · 26/02/2008 19:18

Oh please nominate it.

Don't think I've ever been nominated for anything before.

Apart for "most likely to dress as a ninja and slaughter us all whilst we sleep" at school.

alysonpeaches · 26/02/2008 19:26

I have had two and one came back in the same place, seems much the same as yours.

I went to the doctor (assuming it was something dreadful). She had a good look, and said, "nothing at all"!

She said it was just a bit of infection round a hair root, no treatment needed. I couldnt see a hair so I mentioned that, but apparently there are fine ones we cant see and follicles.

I had spent days researching herpes on the internet for nothing!

I would like to see them gone for good but I expect they will come back.
