DH has been on it since yesterday & has been being sick

Is it a bug or the medication?

I think medication......but what do I know

He has a trapped nerve in his neck btw & it could take 4 weeks to clear

It has never made me sick ... or my dp and his father. Maybe it is the pain?

KatyMac · 23/02/2008 21:57

I did wonder about that

Poor DH - tho' it's obviously a male trapped nerve - kinda the man flu version of a trapped nerve

I have taken it and wasnt sick but I think it was one off the side effects that can happen written on the sheet

MissingMyHeels · 23/02/2008 22:00

Co-drydamol made me sick and very very drowsy when I had it. I guess if it is a bug it will continue during the night when he is not topping up his meds.

bodiddly · 23/02/2008 22:01

I had something similar and was crippled with it (I was amazed just how painful it was)... obviously not in a man flu type way - its probably a combination of the medication and the pain. Do you have any ibuprofen/diclofenac he could try instead? At least that way you can see whether it is. It is horrible being sick when you are trying not to wrench your neck/back!

WigWamBam · 23/02/2008 22:01

Co-drydamol makes me sick and spaced-out. Awful stuff!

Blandmum · 23/02/2008 22:02

can do, yes

emma1977 · 23/02/2008 22:02

Some people can't tolerate codeine preparations- sounds like your dh is one of them!

KatyMac · 23/02/2008 22:02

Can't do ibuprofen as he is asthmatic

I have some co-codamol (but I don't really want to share....I will tho')

It's just I get very little sympathy when I get sciatica

WigWamBam · 23/02/2008 22:03

If it's the medication then co-codamol will probably have the same effect on him.

AlistairSim · 23/02/2008 22:03

It made me sick (and constipated, delightful!) when I took it for a suspected slipped disc.

I found that over the counted paracetamol with codiene worked just as well without the side-effects.

SparklyGothKat · 23/02/2008 22:04

I can't take anything with codeine in it, makes me sick as a dog.

KatyMac · 23/02/2008 22:05

Poor honey

I will be more sympathetic (ish)

& I will find some ordinary paracetemol & see how we do tonite

when I miscarriaged last year the hospital gave me codeine tablets and I was sick and completely spaced out. I had forgotten about the time when I was pregnant with DD2 and was given co-drydamol in hospital, I had to buzz someone I felt so terrible, like a out of body experience, the nurse took one look at me and ran and got a midwife.
When I was in labour with Callum I had a red band with Codeine on it so everyone knew not to give me it. My stupid MIL said the next day, when I was in huge pain with the afterpains and could only take mild painkillers, 'Oh I have some Co-dryamol at home' just after I had said that I couldn't have codeine (think she was trying to bump me off)

Sugarmagnolia · 24/02/2008 08:14

If the CO in co-dydramol is codeine then yes it can make you sick. The very few times I've had codeine it's always made me sick.

KatyMac · 24/02/2008 10:52

Isn't it odd - he last was sick about an hour after his last tablet (6pm last night) & is feeling a bit better now

He is taking paracetamol but it isn't really hitting the pain

Poor DH

Why doesn't he go and see an osteopath and have it 'untrapped' and then he won't need any medication at all . They don't have to click his neck to do that either.

KatyMac · 24/02/2008 21:26

This is a man we are talking about - when did they ever do it the easy way?

OP posts:
PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 24/02/2008 21:38

How long has he had the pain for so far....?

KatyMac · 24/02/2008 21:44

Sunday last week

He will be seeing a reflexologist on Wed (existing appointment) & she does acupressure massage & I am hoping she will recommend he sees someone

OP posts:
PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 24/02/2008 21:48

Well be careful - there will be some muscle spasm to 'protect' the area and massage without addressing the underlying cause / nerve compression can destabalise the area and make it worse.

KatyMac · 24/02/2008 21:49

She is a qualified Physio - but not practicing atm - She has always refused to work on my sciatica, & sent me off to see people - so I think she is careful

self help:

pack of frozen peas for 10 minutes and then allow the muscles to warm up again fully before icing again (approx. 10 mins warm up time).

In bed have one pillow as normal and then place a second one on the top but at right angles to form a T-shape but with the top pillow actually on top of the bottom one. When lies down it will support his neck and upper back properly.

Lie on the floor without a pillow and knees up on the sofa for 20 mins (provided it's ok on his neck). This will allow his whole spine and body to relax in to a more easy position.

KatyMac · 24/02/2008 21:59

Thanks

I'll tell him
