Small, painful cluster of blistery spots on my lip. Pharmacist said not cold sores.........

so what are they?

I thought cold sores are they came up and put a compeed patch on over night. This morning lip was fat and looking worse once patch came off.

I spoke to the pharmacist in local chemist who said not cold sores becuase i hadn't felt any tingling before they appeard!

They are painful fluidy blisters in a small cluster. Slightly itchy. And vry annoying!

Any opinions on what they are and if i can put anything on them? Pharmasist just recommended something to keep lips moist ie lip balm. Bit hard to put that on a sore lip!

sound like cold sores to me, I don't always get the tingling feeling before I get them.

tortoise · 22/02/2008 21:24

Ewww just googled images for impetigo. Doesn't look like that.

My coldsores don't always tingle.

I would leave alone - too late for anti-virals if it is a coldsore. If it develops at all then see your GP Monday.

You could risk doing more harm by treating unnecessarily as you are "touchingit" which could intorduce infection and make things worse.

when I get impetigo it looks like a cold sore except the cream makes it worse but it does form more of a yellow crust. It also seems to hurt more, it keeps me awake in the night.

MrsCarrot · 22/02/2008 21:31

you can't get the cream from the chemist for it though, it has to be a presciption as it's antibiotic, usually Fucidin. Wait and see if it turns yellow maybe.

ladytophamhatt · 22/02/2008 21:34

I get recurrent coldsores and they never tingle but are always abit itchy when they 1st appear.

SlightlyMadSecretSoundWinner · 22/02/2008 21:34

TBH the little blisters do sound like viral pustulae.

Coldsores are viral

obv your pharmacist saw it and I didn't (I only have your description) but I wouldn't rule out coldsores.

TBH by hte time the blisters are out anit-virals are not effective. But I think some coldsore treatments (own brand rather than zovirax) have local anesthetic in to treat the pain - which could help if you are desperate.

TBH I just put up with coldsores. Because I rarely get the tingle it is too late. But I'm 'ard I am

it does look a bit like what I had and it cleared up with fucidin cream (I think) and they did go brownish. I think gp appt tomorrow even though it is ot of hours or back to the pharmacist now it's gone brown.

tortoise · 22/02/2008 22:27

WIll see how they are Monday. It is just like a tiny brown spot in the centres of each spot/blister. Also have a big ulcer on the inside of the lip in the same area! Anbasol is helping that though.

For those who suffer from recurrent coldsores as I have for years since I was a girl. Try taking Lysine supplement, you can get it from places like Holland and Barrett. I try to avoid caffeine, alcohol, raisins and definately don't touch nuts and popcorn. Sounds odd but it does cut down the severity of attack. PM me if you want further info.

Another lifelong sufferer here. I get two types and yours looks like one of them. I don't always get tingling in advance either. Sometimes I get one big blister coldsore and other times I get these clusters of tiny blisters. Coldsores start off red and very sore, become watery and sore then start to heal and go brown as the water sort of dries up.
I find that nothing stops my attack when it starts but I put blisteze on as it stops the tingle/pain and keeps them moist which is important when they are healing.
I get them if I'm stressed, been in the sun, overtired. I used to get them if I snogged anyone new for a long time which killed off a lot of budding romances I can tell you

Hi
Have you recently used a new lipstick one you haven't used before.
I had this the once and once I stopped using the new lipstick it went.
