Can anyone help with this foot pain?

My foot hurts..its at the bottom of.my foot spreading towards the back of my foot up to my ankle. It's a sharp pain when I put my foot down and a warm spreading feeling after. It's not too bad when I'm not moving but it's like a dull ache

I took my daughter to soft play yesterday, she's had chicken pox and thankfully can leave the house now. I don't remember hurting myself but it could be possible..

I took my daughter to nursery and the pain is unreal. Like I'm starting to limp. So I went to the pharmacist who told me to go to the gp who told me to go back to the pharmacist. The gp said it can't be something called planter fascitis because the pain isn't lessening when moving and it's not typical. He said to rest and see how it goes over the weekend

The thing is I can't handle this over the weekend. I can't even walk to the toilet without sitting on the floor crying.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom?

Plantar fasciitis is worse when you’ve rested it and start to walk, then it eases as you walk, but it’s very painful.

sugaryouth1 · 09/06/2023 08:52

Mines the opposite
.more of a dull ache when I'm resting..absolute agony when I'm walking

First and worst time I had plantar fasciitis it was just like this. Like burning dull pain when not moving and total agony when I walked, like actually made me cry, I couldn't believe so much pain when I hadn't actually "injured" it. Mine was triggered wearing new trainers, there was no specific accident or injury at all. Still get it sometimes when I wear a new pair or shoes or badly fitted flat shoes. Apart from the first few days the pain was as expected with plantar fasciitis, ie worse when I first step on it and easing as I walked.

I'm like this so now Never go barefoot, don't wear flip flops mainly trainers with added arch support....not Sketchers arch fit too soft. Lots of calve stretches. Massage with a cold bottle rolled under foot and massage calves. The pain diminishes unless I wear the wrong shoes then I feel it starting.

You need arch support slippers at home.
There's some Vionic ones on the tk Maxx website. Never walk barefoot.
And buy some comfortable arch support sandals/ trainers to wear out.
Stretch your feet by pulling your toes towards you & so this several times a day. Look into Plantar fasciitis splints to wear at night as they can really help.
Finally & most importantly go & see a physio & get a foot scan. They will be able to see what's causing the pain. Whether it's P.F. or foot spurs or an injury. They can then treat the problem accordingly.

Could be a ligament...

Agree with previous posters, protect your arches. Probably worth seeing either a physio or a podiatrist To get the right advice.

sugaryouth1 · 09/06/2023 19:21

I've had a look at some prices and wow. I have work tomorrow as well. Don't work, don't get paid unfortunately so have to literally grit my teeth and crack on.

Try rolling your foot on a golf ball. A rolling pin if you don't have one. It cured mine after several 5 minute sessions over a few days.

HubbaBubbaJubba · 09/06/2023 19:38

Could it be Achilles tendinitis? Have you tried icing it? Rest should also help. Can typically take several weeks to heal.

Giselletheunicorn · 09/06/2023 19:49

@sugaryouth1 you can buy orthotic arch supports that you insert into your shoes for about £25. They are removeable so one pair will work for all your shoes. You probably need to replace them once a year. Do the same job as posh Vionic/Birkenstock shoes etc. (But check with a podiatrist that they are necessary first. NHS podiatry in a terrible state in my local time but private podiatry appointments are about £50, so manageable.)

sugaryouth1 · 09/06/2023 19:53

I appreciate all the advise. Off to see if we have a golf ball. Unfortunately we are living pay to pay so even 25 pounds is a scary sum. Already had 3 days off with little one having chicken pox so just crack on I suppose

That's exactly the treatment I was advised for plantar fasciitis.

I think with Achilles tendinitis the pain would be at the back, in the Achilles tendon. I damaged mine very many years ago doing too much exercise too soon when I took up running, and it has never really recovered.

cherrypied · 09/06/2023 20:11

The pain with plantar faciitis is worse after resting so in the morning it is excruciating to take the first steps then it get better but it still feels like you foot is on fire. If you sit for a bit then get up it's more painful. At peak PF I rotated by ankles and walked int he sides of my feet to get to the toilet!

It changes the whole mechanics of you foot and cause ankle and leg pain.

A cold can or bottle to roll under you foot, paracetamol and ibuprofen and some ice will help you through a day of it is PF.

I've had it since September and finally it has gone.

There are lots of splints and supports but none of them worked.

Don't wear flat soles shoes, flip flops or backless slippers. Wear well fitting laced trainers.

cherrypied · 09/06/2023 20:13

Just to add- mine was triggered by wearing saltwater sandals for a day! 9 months later it's just about gone.

mayorofcasterbridge · 09/06/2023 20:19

I am no medic but I have gout and it sounds a bit like gout to me? Is it hot/red and did it come on really suddenly? (I can literally wake up in the morning with a flare up). The pain of trying to walk is agonising.

Should it be the case, the good news is that medication can work for it - does for me.

bellac11 · 09/06/2023 20:22

The likely suspects are plantar fasciitis, achillies tendonitis, burstitis, arthritis, gout

probably in that order as well

I use a cold bottle or egg shaped stone I keep in fridge. I don't spend loads on shoes...I've found puma trainers that have a heel are good...TK Max. And add an arch support innersole on top of the existing inner. I got a 3 pack off amazon for about £19 you could do a pay in 3 maybe?

Youdoyoubabe · 09/06/2023 22:35

Plantar fasciitis, takes like a year to go. Weirdest feeling.

sugaryouth1 · 17/06/2023 11:34

The pain is different now. I tried insoles and different shoes and nothing made a difference. When im not walking no pain whatsoever. But when I walk or on my feet for a while there's like a cramping pain shooting up the back of my leg ro my calf.

It really hurts to move my toes, when I move them it hurts down my foot. It hurts at the side of my foot where the ankle bone is. I've rung the gp several times and there's nothing available. I'm sick of it now.

And I looked at a private chiropodist and then cried because I don't even have a quarter of the money spare.

It doesn't sound like my symptoms when I had PF. Mine was after an ankle injury and all the pain was under the foot and up the inside part of the ankle. Notable weakness on standing that then wore off as I got moving. Literally the foot giving way. Took a year to go and was finally cured with Fitflops and Skechers.

Yours sounds more widespread and involving other parts of the foot. Do you have a walk-in nearby? It might need an X ray.

After I twisted my ankle I only went to the hospital after a week with no improvement and the nurse said bad sprains often hurt more than actual fractures. Mine was a sprain, that then left me with the PF.

sugaryouth1 · 17/06/2023 11:41

And now I've rung 111 who closed my case as non urgent even though I can't walk. Tempted to just go to a and e to be honest

In case anyone's after an update my husband insisted I went to a and e because I've been crying about this pain all week so off I went. It was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday and got seen fairly quickly. I had an x Ray and there's a small fracture at the ankle bone. I've been walking on it all week so I'm very impressed
