The original thread is almost full and I have found it extremely helpful so have started this new thread.

It is still doing that thing where the sound stops for some seconds sometimes ☹️
I'm so confused 😕

purpleme12 · 01/08/2024 21:58

Has anyone else had this

purpleme12 · 02/08/2024 00:13

Is this what this 'autosense' thing is supposed to do?
I'm confused

purpleme12 · 02/08/2024 08:38

Perhaps this thread is a bit too old now

PeskyandIknowit · 02/08/2024 19:10

Hi @purpleme12 , I saw your question but I have no idea and have never had this problem with my hearing aids, sorry I can't help

purpleme12 · 02/08/2024 19:26

I'm thinking now it might be the Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth on my phone turned on (but I'm just using hearing aids as normal so not on a phone call on Bluetooth or anything) but it seems to happen when Bluetooth is on on my phone.
But I asked someone else who has hearing aids and he said his didn't do this so it doesn't sound like it's normal
And he says he has his Bluetooth on all the time on his phone

Ah, that could be when you have a message come through or go to a page/app that has something with sound on it - mine drops the hearing aid bit in favour of the streaming everytime. I could turn it off, but it's a lot easier if a call comes through.

Polgara2 · 02/08/2024 20:15

I have Bluetooth turned on all the time. I have an iPhone and if my IOS software isn't upto date the aids sometimes switch themselves off and on, which is very annoying. So I do think Bluetooth can cause a few glitches.

No it's not that. That's a reason I can pinpoint.

It does it sometimes for seemingly no reason. Quite often

But it does actually seem like it's when the Bluetooth is turned to on on my phone.

Ok

I think my software is up to date?

Perhaps I should go back to audiologist
I don't think this should happen though because someone else said they don't have this problem and they keep their phone's Bluetooth on all the time

Summerswimmer767 · 03/08/2024 15:17

I would go back to your audiologist @purpleme12 as mine have never cut out and I sync to different blue tooth devices everyday.,

PotOfTulips · 05/08/2024 16:40

Newbie to hearing aids here......
I've just been given my first ever hearing aids (NHS) - these ones sync to an app to help adjust.

These ones do have some wireless accessories such as a "PHone Clip" to stream the phone call to the hearing aid - I'd have to buy these separately if I wanted them, as they don't come on the NHS.

I feel like I don't even know what to ask as this is all so new to me. Any advice for a newbie (or anything you can point me to that is helpful ?)

PotOfTulips · 05/08/2024 17:09

Oh I thought of one specific question if anyone wears glasses and also hearing aids..... I wear glasses to read.

Is it better to put glasses on first and then hearing aids in, or vice versa ? How do you get the curved part of the arm of the glasses to sit next to the hearing aids ?

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 05/08/2024 17:22

@PotOfTulips your audiologist should have explained how hearing works and what you can do to get used to the aids. Though my first 3 audiologists (2 NHS, one private) didn't.

I've been with my current one for 5 years and I can't remember all her instructions, but what has stuck in my mind is

  • hearing is as much in the brain as in the ears so you have to have a period of retraining your brain. This is more than just 'getting used to the aids'.
  • when you start you need to have them set at a level that's unusual (for you) but not overwhelming. You don't want everything so loud it makes life difficult.
  • part of the reason it can be overwhelming is that in normal life, your brain filters out background noise and just invites you to pay attention to anything unusual. When you first get aids there's an awful of of this background stuff that is unusual for you, so all of a sudden everything is demanding attention. It helps to identify and name sounds as they come up - that's the air conditioning, that's the traffic, that's the gravel path etc.
  • try to wear them as much as you can, you're not giving your brain much of a chance if you keep asking it to adjust to different ways of working. If you're finding you really can't wear them for long you probably need a temporary adjustment.
  • keep a note of any particularly difficult situations in as much detail as you can so that you can discuss them at your next appointment. Getting the right settings on your aids can be a long process involving several adjustments.

I wouldn't worry about accessories for now, particularly as you might find that fine tuning the aids means that you don't need the accessories so much. Good luck and welcome back to the world of birdsong.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 05/08/2024 17:26

@PotOfTulips In my area both Specsavers and Scrivens provide hearing aid services. If you have something similar I would pop in and ask if your glasses need adjusting. I've never had them charge for this, or ask if I was one of their patients.

PotOfTulips · 05/08/2024 18:06

Thanks @MontyDonsBlueScarf that's very helpful of you!

I wear both but usually
Contacts but wear glasses early am.driving home as work nights

Find more comfortable to put hearing aids in then glasses on

purpleme12 · 05/08/2024 23:11

I always put glasses on first. But it doesn't really matter. The glasses always sit on your ear. The hearing aid on top. It's just how it naturally goes

PeskyandIknowit · 06/08/2024 08:31

I do glasses then hearing aids, and then hair scoop, always manage to trap some under the wires!

Summerswimmer767 · 06/08/2024 10:30

I do hearing aids then glasses plus hair scoop, I’d just see what works for you. I’ve also got different sized domes on each ear as that worked better for me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/08/2024 19:49

So 2 do aids glasses and 2 glasses aids 😂

purpleme12 · 06/08/2024 19:51

But surely for everyone, whichever order you put them on, the glasses naturally still sit on the ear and hearing aids sit on them?

Polgara2 · 06/08/2024 19:55

Hmm my hearing aids sit next to my glasses 🤔
But regardless I wear glasses all the time so they're always on first or I would bump into things 😂

Me too

Interesting that yours sit next to your glasses! There's not enough room on my ear for mine to sit next to them!
