anyway the rash is spreading i would say a new spot a day, i know she is ill anyway so maybe this is why but i read the AB should stop spreading within 48 hours, she is in a bad way and i am concerned - some of the spots are in her mouth now- please help

Nothing but sympathy from here - dd1 caught this from a friend at toddlers, and it's awful, so hard to control.

Keep up with the anti-b's - we threw aside all normal rules and mixed them into super strength chocolate milkshake, which she didn't seem to notice them in ....till she spotted us with the bottle.....

They'll kick in soon, I think at that age there's precious little else you can do but keep cleaning her hands, and all the surfaces she touches

AND DON'T CATCH IT YOURSELF

CrushWithEyeliner · 10/02/2008 14:15

i am in bits - just spoke to our out of hours who said increase the dosage to 4x a day! it is like torturing her..

did they work for you? after how long?

my friends DD had Impetigo recently and it did seem to get worse before getting better.

increase teh dose as NHsD said and just keep everything as clean as you can. it is horrible but necessary im afraid

As far as I remember (this was about four years ago) it took about three days before we realised there were no new sores appearing, and the old ones were drying out.

Bear with it, I really think there's no option but AB's, especially with such a little one. Rubbish for you though, you must be running around like the proverbial blue-bottomed fly.

For us, we just tried to control it from spreading to us, or her sister, and kept surfaces, including her cot, regularly cleaned. Restrict her toys a little, too, I'm not sure about transmisability (? sp ?) but we didn't want to risk it.

The AB's definitely worked for us though, and we'd struggled on for days with Hibiscrub and anointing the sores with Fucidin (fucidic acid - I think you can get it from your pharmacist if you're registered for the pharmacy advice service - we actually kept using it alongside the ab's as a belt & braces approach) - it cleared up very quickly really.

Grit your teeth, it'll be gone before you know it. Poor wee soul, I hope she's not to sore with it in her mouth too.xx

CrushWithEyeliner · 10/02/2008 18:19

thank you all so much - we are ploughing on I think the fact that she is can such a nasty cough/cold makes it all so much worse. Encouraging to hear that it eventually went, it defo seems to be getting worse with DD....

Any progress?

CrushWithEyeliner · 13/02/2008 13:01

it still isn't really clearing up very well to be honest even after going to a&e and getting different AB - have started another thread actually i am v concerned, do you have to keep with the ab until the rash is gone? - this rash isn't going any ti,e soon and she can't be on ab forever!

My ds had impetigo, but I didn't know it was that or that it needed antibiotic treatment. I was at the gp for myself when she saw it and told me what it was. By this time it was scabbed over. She offered me antibiotics for him and some cream, but I figured if it was scabbed then the worry about spreading is over. She agreed and told me to return if any new sores appeared. Thankfully none did. So just wanted to say that with normal hygiene routines no one else in the family caught it (including his newborn brother who he had been smothering with kisses). And also without antibiotic treatment it cleared up on its own (he had one large sore on his nose, about 1.5cm). Maybe we were lucky. My only concern now is that one month on he still has a red mark where the sore was, with no signs of it fading yet.

hoxtonchick · 13/02/2008 13:36

ds had oral antibiotics (which tasted grim too) & also some antibiotic cream to rub on the spots when he had impetigo. he only had about 3 spots though. i would go back to the gp if i were you i think.

CrushWithEyeliner · 13/02/2008 13:53

yes have scabbed over but just dosen't look any better at all - i think i will go back. this is awful - DD is just not the same baby the AB are having a dreadful effect

What did the gp say?

CrushWithEyeliner · 14/02/2008 08:40

not responding to AB properly and contacting a dermatologist today - she is not good at all

OP posts:
chopster · 14/02/2008 08:45

good luck with the dermatologist, I'm glad you got the referral. Mine have had it and they did respond to ABS very quickly, so I def think she needs something mroe.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2008 12:17

I hope the dermatolgist appt comes up as soon as possible. You poor thing - you must be so worried.

CrushWithEyeliner · 14/02/2008 12:58

OP posts:
chopster · 14/02/2008 13:05

please don't worry too much, Impetigo does look vile and can spread really quickly. Im sure she will be fine ince she gets the right treatment. When are you expecting an appointment?

VictorianSqualor · 14/02/2008 13:12

Is it definitely impetigo???
My two have had somehting sicne christmas, well ds did and then DD got it, it was fungal so the impetigo treatment didnt do sod all, it was on DS's head which ended up with him losing hair, when DD got it I finally got her to see a dermatologist and they have given her some tablets and cream and shampoo, within three days it was almost gone.
Force the issue, we saw about three docs that said 'impetigo' with DS, and one with DD that said it too.
It WASN'T impetigo.

Have they given you cream to put on aswell?

My dd both used to get this and would have to use AB and a cream to get it to clear up.

Fucidid cream - or sounds like that anyhow. You put it on the spots and leave to saok in.

Use seperate towels and hot washes in the machine. I would also do dettol baths to try to keep them both as clean as possible - not easy with lo's

CrushWithEyeliner · 14/02/2008 13:39

Doc spoke to the demo who recommended a new cream - fucin acid or something and to contitue for a couple more days on the AB but i am not convinced. She has excema on her hands (which is where I put the cream) so it is a different type of impetigo that on her ear. I am just so confused with all the advice now and have an appointment to ask to actually see a dermo.
I feel so let down by the healthcare professionals, if the AB have not worked after !) DAYS why wil they start too now..I am literally crying all day watching my little girls loose weight with all the diaorreah amd spooning this shit into her which is doing nothing...
