Heart rate over 200

Icantstopeatinglol · 10/02/2023 23:35

Has anyone had a heart rate above 200 and it turn out to be something benign or ‘normal’? It happened to me on Wednesday suddenly and hasn’t happened since and I’m not entirely sure if I should be getting it checked out. Writing this down I know if it were someone else I’d say of course don’t be stupid!? But I just wondered if it could be anxiety, stress? I’m probably going to contact the gp on Monday but just wanted to see if anyone else has had similar?

I would be getting this checked out as a matter of urgency. Is it 200 when resting ?? I don't want to scare you but sometimes things like this can be signs of an impending heart attack. Probably not that, but I wouldn't mess with my heart.

Aldisfinest · 10/02/2023 23:46

Meant to add, I would call 111 for advice.

Icantstopeatinglol · 10/02/2023 23:46

No it only happened once for 5 minutes on Wednesday when I suddenly felt my heart beating very fast. I get palpitations occasionally and have spoken to my gp about it but they’ve never thought much of it. Usually a cough or something tends to stop it or at least it only lasts a few seconds. This was 5 minutes when it jumped from 67 to 210. I only know as I was so taken aback I pressed my Apple Watch to take my heart rate. I’m glad I’ve got the data from my iPhone to show the gp.

Oh. I've just read your update, sorry didn't read the OP properly. I thought you meant since Wednesday, it's been over 200. If you suffer with heart palpations and it did recover than that's a good sign tbh. Just contact your GP on Monday and If it happens again, note it down. Or obviously if it happens for a longer period or time, seek medical advice.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/02/2023 23:52

I've had a few weird episodes of 82 going to 132 when just walking for 1 minute only - but nothing like 200.

DontStopMeNow7 · 10/02/2023 23:59

Nurse here. If that happened to me or a loved one it would be A&E. That’s way, way above normal; you needed ECG, tropinin levels checked, heart monitor if ongoing. As it was a few days ago I’d ask to be seen by GP soonish for a check up and further tests. Maybe it’s just an arrhythmia, or something that’s nothing to worry about. If it happens again though: 111 for advice and you might get an appointment in A&E.

Icantstopeatinglol · 11/02/2023 00:07

Yea I’ve actually got an appointment at the gp on Tuesday (HRT related) so I’ll see how I am the next few days and at the very least mention it then. I’ve had so many different things go on over the years that I feel like they must see me and think ‘her again 🙄’. Even though I have genuine issues.

Please never think that. Some people do have many health issues. I have had a fair few. Hopefully you get checked out and all is ok.

HateEatingInTheDark · 11/02/2023 00:13

I went to hospital once because i felt ill
My heart rate was 132 and i was in resus
A heart rate of 200 is very dangerous
I would see a GP asap and in the mean time, can you get a oxy meter, to see if it is roughly the same as your Apple watch

Icantstopeatinglol · 11/02/2023 11:49

I was actually at work but didn’t want to make a fuss. How ridiculous is that 🙄

OP posts:
JustDanceAddict · 11/02/2023 18:13

That’s incredibly high, def speak to your GP.

ironhelp · 11/02/2023 18:16

Are you absolutely sure that your watch wasn't faulty? Did you double check with your fingers on your pulse?
Just because that is extremely high

Icantstopeatinglol · 11/02/2023 19:21

I didn’t actually check at the time manually as it totally took me off guard. Could literally see my heart beating through my top and I was more worried it was going to get worse. I’ve had palpitations but that was more than normal. I’m going to ring the gp on Monday.

CuriousMama · 23/02/2023 07:53

@Icantstopeatinglol how are you doing?

endofthelinefinally · 23/02/2023 07:55

Yes, you must get medical advice asap. That is dangerous.

Icantstopeatinglol · 26/02/2023 23:40

Hi, I spoke to my gp last week about this and I’m booked in for a 48hr ecg this week. I’m still getting chest pains etc but no more heart rates like the 210 one thankfully! I think if that happened again I’d go straight to hospital. Thanks for not making me feel like I’m not just making a fuss :)

HateEatingInTheDark · 26/02/2023 23:42

Go straight to hospital / Ring an Ambulance next time

Also if you have chest pains, the same applies !!!

Thank you for updating. You've been in my thoughts.

Icantstopeatinglol · 26/02/2023 23:52

Thank you both, feel a bit reassured that I’m having an ecg so should pick up anything urgent. Otherwise potentially stress related? Though I didn’t feel stressed at the time. I actually had a more stressful weekend after that and heart rate was fine so it was odd.

OP posts:
CuriousMama · 27/02/2023 00:00

It'd be good if you could get an echocardiogram.
I hope you're taken seriously and not fobbed off.

Icantstopeatinglol · 27/02/2023 00:04

Yea I’m booked in for a 48hr ecg on Friday. I’ll have it on all weekend so should get a good idea if there are any issues. Would be good to catch a dodgy heart rate but you can guarantee it won’t happen while I’m wearing it. Seems like a one off event anyway so hopefully all is ok.

OP posts:
CuriousMama · 27/02/2023 00:07

Yes I hope so too. Am sure it will be.

VanillaImpulse · 27/02/2023 00:34

I had 215 once but that was after doing Parkrun for the first time! I take beta blockers as well so not sure what it would've been without them!!

Icantstopeatinglol · 22/04/2023 16:15

So I had a 48hr ecg and came back ok but it’s just happened again. Heart rate jumped from 90 to 210bpm while doing housework. It went up and down in under a minute, could it just be palpitations??

Back to the GP's you go OP! Or if it happens again before Monday I think you should definitely head to A&E.

I'm not medical but have lots of experience with both parents having had various heart issues. I have seen just how dramatically things have changed medicine-wise in the last 20 odd years. If it turns out something is amiss, then there's absolutely loads they can do. Just wanted to reassure you but you should definitely get checked out.
