Urgent breast clinic referral

I’m terrified, I found a small lump in my breast whilst in the shower, I managed to get into the doctors today, she said she could feel several lumps in my left boob most likely to be breast tissue but she has referred me to the breast clinic urgently, I lost my mum 4 years ago (not breast cancer) and now my dad has just been diagnosed with lymphoma, I just can’t believe this is happening and I’m terrified it’s the worst and I won’t be here for my children 😞

Big hugs pinkypie. The anxiety is awful. Have you told anyone who can support you? X

Its so nerve wracking! Ive just been referred today. Went in as had a pink dry patch on breast, Doc says probably excema but did a breast exam and said thickened tissue in one breast. I'm so worried, I have been having back and neck problems for months, physio says muscular but my mind has gone into overdrive about spreading cancer now.

Oh bless you, I was exactly the same, convinced myself that every little ache and pain was the worse possible news in relation to my breast, so much so that when the consultant said there was nothing to worry about I asked him if he was sure Confused. That's how convinced I was.

You just have to focus on the fact that most of the people in that waiting room go home with good news.

Pinkypie123 · 24/01/2023 21:55

I hadn't told anyone other than my husband but did tell my Mum today, she just kept telling me not to worry and these things can be hormonal. I have terrible health anxiety so always get myself into a state! Thank you for your post! xxx

Pinkypie123 · 24/01/2023 22:01

Thank you Tanfastic, it's so reassuring to hear positive stories. I have date now, 11 days to go, trying to be positive. Pink patch that made me go see Dr has faded today! I think my aches are muscular as they go when I rest but still massively anxious! xxx

Just an update on what happened tonight at my appointment. My lump vanished and wasn’t there on Monday any more but I went anyway this evening to the breast clinic. I was examined and the consultant said she could feel a very small cyst left over from infection. I had an ultrasound to confirm the area was normal - which it was. She said that when I’ve been shaving and waxing, the cyst has been irritated and caused the lymph node to come up. It’s then settled down when the infection has settled. She said it’s very common.

Hi
Im in same position as a lot of you . Breast clinic Friday 3rd for sore lumpy breast. I’m very nesh needle and blood phobic so many mixed emotions. I was hoping for tablets to clear whatever’s making the breast tender, after reading other posts it sound like best outcome will be they that they need to drain something which also turns my head spinning. I keep reading other peoples thinking get a grip Sally I know I’m over reacting. Would love to know how people keep sane also when do you tell family. If a biopsy is needed and it sounds like that’s done in most cases do you tell people you’ve had it and are waiting for results or do you wait till you know if there’s something to tell. My kids are in the 20’s and don’t know I’m going on Friday . I’ve not told my parents as we have to give them a lot of support at the moment as they have some health issues themselves .

I went in for sore lumpy breasts and the consultant said it’s hormonal pain probably perimenopause. Chewed myself to bits thinking I was dying of cancer. I still feel really unwell so now I’m worried sick it’s ovarian cancer, causing hormone levels which then cause breast pain.

Pinkypie123 · 31/01/2023 19:00

I have my referral appointment on Saturday for thickened tissue, I can't feel it but Doc did. I've got myself in right state about it too. I'm praying is also just a peri menopause thing. I think you could ask Doc for a CA125 blood test re worries about ovarian?

The doctor told me there was a lump but I couldn’t feel anything. The consultant said what a load of nonsense there’s no lump at all. And my mammogram showed no lump. So try not to worry too much, they can be wrong.

Worriedlip · 31/01/2023 22:32

Urgent referral is just standard, I’ve had it twice. Good it’s being seen to quickly

Pinkypie123 · 01/02/2023 09:07

Thank you for the reassurance! It was a thickening rather than a lump she described but my boobs are a bit big and lumpy!

fudgecat · 01/02/2023 10:45

@catherine2108 how did you get on yesterday?

Eatentoomanyroses · 01/02/2023 10:50

They do just sent you up to the breast clinic as standard if there’s anything to query. I went two years ago and was given the all clear. That said, I’ve got an appointment with my gp. I have had a sore breast for a few weeks. The thing with mine is I’ve had two surgeries on it. One a reduction and a second one to put an implant in. I don’t know if it’s some kind of scar tissue that’s causing the general tenderness. My other worry is my implants are ones that have been recalled and linked to a type of lymphoma.

catherine2108 · 01/02/2023 10:51

Just to update you, I had my appointment yesterday, the consultant did an examination and confirmed she found a lump but she thought it was fatty tissue, she sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound which was such an agonising wait, but that confirmed it was fatty tissue, relief is an understatement, but I'm so glad I went and got it checked, sending lots of support to anyone else waiting on a referral

My kids are in the 20’s and don’t know I’m going on Friday . I’ve not told my parents as we have to give them a lot of support at the moment as they have some health issues themselves .

I was called back after a routine mammogram (fortunately only about 5 days after the letter), and stupidly googled and jumped to the worst conclusion. My appointment was professional, reassuring and pretty much painless (even the biopsy), although I was told that my unfelt lump was more suspicious than not, but totally treatable. So I came out knowing that I probably had cancer, but all would be well - and I stopped panicking.

We told our DC (late 20's) once we had been to the consultant appointment, and were very matter of fact about it. They were shocked and a little upset, but very much followed our guide. A pain but not a big issue.

At this point I was also quite open with people, and at that point (and throughout really) I didn't feel ill, just a little tender from time to time.

I hope that your appointment goes well on Friday.

Sally543 · 01/02/2023 11:47

Thanks everyone it’s good to hear there’s positives as well as the negatives. It’s good to have an idea to expect. Glad you got good news Catherine.

toomuchlikemyusername · 01/02/2023 13:15

@Sally543 I've just had an appointment at the breast clinic and had to have what turned out to be multiple cysts drained. They used a local anaesthetic (a bit stingy but nothing awful) before draining/aspirating them. No pain at all just a slight feeling of movement on my breast. I couldn't see what was happening which I think helped. The consultant could see from what she took from the cysts whether this was 'normal' or needed further investigation. Another mammogram followed (I had one immediately before the procedure too) so she could compare the before and after images and confirm that all was well. I was in and out if the clinic in about an hour and that was with some waiting in between stages. I was so impressed with the kind supportive manner of all the staff but also the clarity of the messages I was being given about what they were doing, why they were doing it and the outcome.
I hope your appointment goes well for you.

Sally543 · 01/02/2023 14:09

toomuchlikemyusername Thanks for letting me know it’s reassuring that it wasn’t painful. I’ve got it in my head that this is most likely for me cos somethings making it tender . It’s also reassuring to hear that the staff are all so good at what they’re doing. It really sounds like everyone has nothing but positive things to say about the clinic’s I think it must take a special person to work there .

Pickledprune · 01/02/2023 18:41

Hi ladies sending hugs to you all I've been referred this afternoon I have pain in my armpit and left breast and a funny area above my nipple, im so worried 🥺 my doctor was lovely and said it's likely hormonal but for peace of mind getting it looked at. I'm 45. X

Pinkypie123 · 01/02/2023 19:23

Hi PickledPrune, hugs back. My appt is on Saturday, referred last Monday. Felt then like the wait would be an age but nearly there now. Hang on in there xxx

Pickledprune · 01/02/2023 19:33

I hope it all goes ok sending more hugs and to all on this thread xxx

Pinkypie123 · 04/02/2023 18:51

Just to update, appointment today, all was fine - normal glandular tissue. Appointment was very thorough, lots of checks and felt very looked after. I hope all those awaiting appointments go well and arrive swiftly!

Pickledprune · 04/02/2023 20:49

Really glad all is ok 💜I've been today also, I got a cancellation even earlier than I thought and took it, and all was normal on mammogram. The consultant told me the left breast in particular is common for pain in peri. I too felt very looked after, was examined very thoroughly and a nurse was so lovely, they were amazing at our local NHS hospital. I am very grateful for it. I feel reassured now but glad got it checked.
Hugs to all

Pinkypie123 · 04/02/2023 21:09

That's brilliant news Pickledprune, so glad you got called in earlier. I feel exhausted now, think I have been in a state of stress for 2 weeks! Have a lovely relaxing weekend!
