ilkleymoorbartat · 11/01/2023 17:45

Im so scared. I've had a raft of symptoms, pain under right right, Gas, wind.

I've just had an abnormal FIT test of 10, they said it's borderline but with the symptoms it's very worrying.

Im completely freaking out, I have 2 small kids

Not the same but stumbled across this and wanted to say that this time last week I was convinced I had breast cancer as I had nipple discharge and I'd been referred urgently. It was just 'one of those things'.

Coldaroo · 14/01/2023 20:27

Hi @ilkleymoorbartat , so sorry to hear anxiety is kicking in, it is impossible to control. I have found that on anxious days the pain is much worse and was never sure if it is the anxiety causing it or if it is the other way, the pain sending me into anxiety mode.
I had my gastroscopy and colonoscopy today, feeling quite wiped out and slept the whole afternoon. The gastroscopy found gastritis and they took biopsy. The colonoscopy found diverticulosis, no biopsy was taken. I am not sure what is next now, I assume I will have a phonecall from the gastroenterologist.
Hope your appointment is not long to wait now, I was surprised that they do them on Saturday but turns out Sunday too.
Sending you solidarity and hugs!

ilkleymoorbartat · 15/01/2023 09:33

Thanks for being so supportive.

Hope you're feeling better today @Coldaroo. I'm sure you feel relieved to have it over with, and know that it's nothing sinister.

@ilkleymoorbartat How are you feeling now?

@Coldaroo Your colonoscopy was yesterday wasn’t it? How did it go?

elliesmummy19 · 15/01/2023 15:57

Sorry, just saw your update @Coldaroo ! I’m glad you have an answer!

ilkleymoorbartat · 15/01/2023 17:48

Thanks for checking in @elliesmummy19
Im feeling ok. I go in and out of panic, and have read every medical paper I can online (which I realise is not ideal, but I'm just seeking any reassurance I can find).

I hope you are feeling ok now!

A qFIT of 10 is borderline. It is highly unlikely to be significant.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/01/2023 17:59

I had a FIT of 10, was put in 2 week pathway & went into panic mode - until I realised how very very borderline 10 is

i had a colonoscopy and found I had diverticulitis- it’s very common & one of the main symptoms is shooting pains in your stomach when you eat something that sets it off. Now I just have to be careful what I eat especially when it’s combined with menopause which also affects digestion

it’s honestly far far more likely to be something like that than cancer xx

ilkleymoorbartat · 16/01/2023 14:22

Thank you so much for replying. Your posts have been very reassuring.

Anxiety high this evening because my dad has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer and my gran has died this afternoon after a protracted fight with lung cancer. It's been a shitty few weeks and my gastric symptoms are through the rough.

searchingforme · 16/01/2023 20:31

Very borderline I.e under they don’t refer on 2ww and over they do yours is in limbo land! Honestly I wouldn’t worry (I know easy to say) lots of people have positive fit tests a lot higher than that and do not have cancer.

searchingforme · 16/01/2023 20:31

I’m so sorry about your dad and Nan I didn’t see they lost before I posted mine.

searchingforme · 16/01/2023 20:32

your post not they lost

ilkleymoorbartat · 17/01/2023 14:07

Thank you @searchingforme It's been a very rubbish few weeks. B it r appreciate the support on here.

How are you feeling? Do you have a date for your colonoscopy yet?

ilkleymoorbartat · 17/01/2023 20:52

Not yet @Cocopops555 I have a call with the consultant tomorrow which, as with everything it seems, I'm very anxious about.

Im hoping it's just going to be procedural but worried they'll say something that gets me panicking again. My adrenalin levels are through the rough at the moment.

My call with consultant was very brief maybe 3 or 4 minutes. He asked me to confirm my symptoms and told me he agreed I needed a colonoscopy. I asked him how long I would have to wait and he said hopefully in 2 weeks. It’s just over the 2 weeks.
Hope it goes well I’ll be thinking about you.

ilkleymoorbartat · 17/01/2023 21:11

Likewise @Cocopops555

I spoke to the consultant this morning. They're doing a ct scan with virtual colonoscopy plus gastroscopy. So the whole lot.

She said given my history she thinks it might be gallbladder or pancreas related but she can't rule out bowel related either given the positive fit.

That’s great. Good that’s someone’s looking at the whole picture. How long will you have to wait fir the appointment?
I’ve had my pre assessment and now have to eat the restrictive diet for next day. Strangely feel a bit calmer because something is happening. The wait is horrendous

ilkleymoorbartat · 18/01/2023 20:22

Thanks @Cocopops555
I Also feel marginally calmer knowing things are 'in hand'. Although I know I'll be freaking out before. I asked if I could be sedated but she said that would be unlikely. Atm I just want to be knocked out and woken up when it's all over.

Im glad you're feeling calmer. I hope the next few days will be ok for you. Flowers

Oh, @ilkleymoorbartat , what a tough time this must be, so sorry to hear about the sad news you had in the family.
So glad you were offered CT scan, can pick up so much more than just the scope. Really hope they get to the bottom of it for you.
I thought light sedation was standard for gastroscopy? To be honest, I found that much easier than the colonoscopy, was also very quick. I asked the consultant about GA at the time of referral and he said the wait for that was 9 months, so I just went with the standard procedure.
Best of luck to you!

LAlady · 19/01/2023 07:17

So sorry for all that has happened and your loss.

I had this before Christmas but my score was over 100. The doctor said that these tests are not totally accurate but nonetheless I needed to be referred on the 2 week pathway. I had previously been referred in 2018 under the 2 week pathway and it was a stomach ulcer. Had endoscopy and a colonoscopy at that time. .

This time I had a CT scan and I have been diagnosed with diverticula disease on one side.

I am so grateful to the NHS - now I can manage my symptoms.

It's easier said than done, but the fact you have been referred is a good thing and you should try and push it to the back of your mind. The chances of it being sinister are remote. We are so lucky that referrals happen this way.

ilkleymoorbartat · 19/01/2023 13:30

Thank you so much @Coldaroo and @LAlady and am glad to hear your procedures went well. You're all keeping me calmer and after 5 days of reading every medical paper that's been published about bowel cancer, I'm now trying to stay away from Google.

@ilkleymoorbartat Hello, how are you these days? Have you had the scans yet? Hope all is well!
