Does anyone else get really confused about all the noise out there about what and how we should and should not eat for health and longevity from all the professionals, Doctors and scientist that all have differing views , conflicting each other, These doctors and scientist on YouTube, Like Dr Ken Berry, he is a Carnivore, eats nothing but meat, eggs and fat, swears by it, so does his wife, eats endless amounts of bacon and butter, and salt, will not touch grain, no bread, no wholegrains, does not eat fruit and vegs, says its not good for us, does loads of research very intelligent, His wife and kids, all healthy and happy, Then there is Dr Brad Stanfield, also very intelligent , does loads of research , swears by the Mediterranean diet, says we should eat lots of fruits and veg, fish, wholegrains, including bread, rice, pasta etc, says limit meat, limits butter etc, what are we meant to believe ?
Just wondering what your thought are.

Humans should ideally eat real food. If your great great great grandmother would recognise it if she saw it then it’s probably “okay”, maybe not the best, but “okay”.

Processing, as has been said, ruins food, this also applies to plants turned into flour. Flour and potatoes have historically been used as an ultra- cheap way to feed the masses/peasants - not the best food.

Best option = no sugar, no flour, no rice, no potatoes, no man-made vegetable oils and ideally the only fruit is berries.

The single best food source is eggs, no contest - the only vitamin eggs don’t contain is vitamin c.

Oh, and coffee is actually good for you too.

No rice?

That’s a bit much.

I would say eat less.
As a child in the 50s I ate 3 meals a day. Don't remember having snacks. I hated school dinners so probaby ate 2 and a quarter meals a day.
Cycled a couple of miles to school but wasn't skinny - just healthy.
Also didn't drink water regularly - somehow didn't need it.

Also much fruit today has been tweaked to make them sweeter and easier to peel, so don't eat too much of it.

Yes, the thing of constantly having to tote a bottle around wasn't really something people did until late 90s/early 00s. I just drank when I was thirsty when I was a kid.

No rice?

That’s a bit much.

I’m Indian. White rice as we see it now is modern even in India and south Asia. Lol my gran and her friends used to call white rice ‘wedding rice’ and their day to day diet consisted of other types of grain like amaranth, wholewheat and barley. Due to previous low life expectancies & an almost desperate need to ‘fit in’ with trends / fads, most Indian people have forgotten our traditional diets & that’s probably why we’re so prone to getting diabetes and heart problems.

Been doing the carnivore diet, coupled with berries.

No more sugar highs or lows - no more feeling tired - my vitiligo is regressing - sometimes just have one main meal a day and a few berries here and there - and feel ‘even’ throughout the day and night - never feel hungry.

So little waste from it too - gone from 3 recycling bins down to half of one a month - food waste - there isn’t any….

It’s cheaper!! Costco red meats and chicken mainly. Went from £800 a month food bill down by half we think. And that cos we still have 1 kid at home who isn’t on this regime.

Stopped any ‘hankering’ after a dessert. Being honest, i love a salad, even in winter, but i was always hankering after something of a treat after that.

not sure it’s for everyone - there were some initial side effects - which lasted a few days - nothing bad.

Instill need my morning coffee!! That’s my treat.

What were the side effects if you do mind me asking?

Just a few days upset tummy for me, about a week for my partner.

Plants and food made from plants obviously. Eating animals is horrific and abnormal, also obviously“

No, as omnivores it’s what we have evolved to eat, along with plant foods.

That’s really interesting, thank you.

Interesting stuff! @RunLolaRun102 do you know why the other grains were chosen over brown rice? Are they healthier? Have no clue.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/01/2023 15:07

Eat = unprocessed stuff
Not eat much = processed stuff

Avoid like the plague = ultra processed stuff.

I had family who banged on about how they'd put on weight and it wasn't fair that I had stayed slim but I make a lot from scratch and they live on branded processed stuff.

Certain foods are highly addictive though - they are deliberately made that way. So it's really hard for people to break the habit of eating ultra processed stuff.

EspeciallyDetermined · 13/01/2023 18:32

Yes, and they are often marketed as natural, healthy, convenient etc, it is easy to fall for it all.

stargirl1701 · 13/01/2023 18:42

Eat food that is recognisably grown. Avoid Ultra processed food.

For the planet, eat food that grows in season near your home.
