"Just" trapped wind? Warning TMI

OuchMyTummy · 05/01/2023 11:07

I thought I had a tummy bug this morning - terrible stomach cramps and a couple of loose bowel movements. I'm still in bed with horrible pains ongoing, but so far no d&v as I'd expected.
My question: how bad can trapped wind feel? I had a meal last night with unusual (for me) numbers of lentils and beans. Could that have possibly causes discomfort this bad? It's HORRIBLE

Are you feeling generally unwell? Any temperatures? If not, I'd say it's most likely to be caused by what you had for dinner last night, sometimes lentils etc can upset the stomach as they contain a lot of fiber

StrapOnYourHeroHair · 05/01/2023 11:13

Trapped wind can be absolutely excruciating. Loads of people go to A&E thinking it’s something much worse.

Hope you feel better soon!

Redannie118 · 05/01/2023 11:14

I used to feel exactly like this when I ate cous cous. Try and movie around if you can, it will help. Also oddly enough apples work really for upset tummies with trapped wind if you have any.

OuchMyTummy · 05/01/2023 11:17

Thanks for replying @Cherryblossom99 . Temp is completely normal and I think it's basically just the pain making me feel unwell. Thanks again

I had this for an entire weekend from what I think was a pizza with vegan cheese on it. Or just giving up dairy in general. The pain was bad all that weekend but I do suffer with ibs

OuchMyTummy · 05/01/2023 11:18

@StrapOnYourHeroHair that's useful to know - thank you.

@Redannie118 - thank you, I will attempt to move around a bit.

@teaandtoastwithmarmite that sounds awful. Hope you haven't had it again!

Lentils are the devils food for me - awful awful!

Allsnotwell · 05/01/2023 11:22

Friend was airlifted to hospital with what turned out to be trapped wind.
There was serious panic!

So yes it can be bad.

sandgrown · 05/01/2023 11:22

Peppermint type capsules were recommended after a c section to disperse wind

declutteringmymind · 05/01/2023 11:22

A mug of hot water really calms my stomach when I feel like this.

bobbyew · 05/01/2023 11:22

Slightly different but when I was pregnant I went to hospital thinking I was in labour and it was trapped wind! It was honestly worse than a lot of my actual labour pains

Hobbesmanc · 05/01/2023 11:23

Peppermint tea. And rotate your hips lying down. Then lift your ankles. Hopefully a big trump will ensue!

SalviaOfficinalis · 05/01/2023 11:24

Trapped wind can be very painful.

Lie on your back, grab your ankles and rotate them around. Google happy baby pose if you don’t know what I mean.

Nottodaty · 05/01/2023 11:30

I’ve suffered from this a few times - the pain is something else.

I remember once in a fairly new relationship , he cooked a lovely meal (lentils) and around 2 am after immense pain and taking buscapan- half asleep almighty trump. I hoped he hadn’t heard -but quietly ended that relationship!!

More recently immense stomach ache - mint tea & buscapan & rennie. It didn’t ease until I went to the toilet around 3 in the morning. I was crying in pain. I made sure I moved lots inbetween the pain.

i can understand why someone would think it’s something else & end up in a&e - it really hurts!! The minute it’s released the pain eases!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/01/2023 11:30

@OuchMyTummy thanks. No it's been ok. Strangely I don't get it with papa johns only with Asda Grin. Bananas I can't eat at all though and haven't since my mid 20's (I'm 41) as they give me horrendous stomach ache. Hope you feel better soon.

peachescariad · 05/01/2023 11:33

I used to go on all fours with bum in air and resting on my forearms and rock back and forth.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/01/2023 11:38

Mint tea is excellent for releasing trapped wind, quite quickly too. Before Christmas I'd had trapped wind all morning, not serious just uncomfortable. I met friends for lunch and had a pot of mint tea with my lunch. I had thought it would take a few hours to un-trap the wind but it was about an hour. My poor friends. I left a bit early to save them.

CeliaCanth · 05/01/2023 11:40

Lie on your back, grab your ankles and roll backwards and forwards. Ideally when you’re home alone!

OuchMyTummy · 05/01/2023 11:50

Thank you all so much. Your posts have really helped. This reminds me of being in labour - the temporary easing off followed by nauseating waves of pain.

EvelynBeatrice · 05/01/2023 11:54

Yes, it can be agony and sounds like trapped wind. However, if this happens again, possibly accompanied by pain between the shoulder blades/ round the breast bone, you may be suffering from gallstones or the like.

EvelynBeatrice · 05/01/2023 11:55

Try Buscopan

Pinkbananas01 · 05/01/2023 12:24

Dsis had this few weeks ago, ended up in hospital with diverticulitis & needed IV antibiotics

SalviaOfficinalis · 05/01/2023 12:25

Your updates have left me less convinced that it’s trapped wind.

I would describe trapped wind as very sharp pain rather than waves of pain like labour.

FriedEggChocolate · 05/01/2023 12:28

Warmth, hot water bottle etc. can help too if you have one to hand.
